BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

Can I have one of the proverbial kicks please?? Dug out my slimming books and starting tomorrow (it is always tomorrow isn't it), so I need to get started again.

I have a good opportunity to have a good weightloss in Sept - having a leg op and three weeks off work where I have to go and do some regular walking to keep the circulation going. Kids with be at school and Childminders, so will have 5-6 hours a day to devote to me and my body - I so want to make the most of this opportunity and lose at least 10lbs - which is about a third of the whole campaign!!

hi Andy and welcome - just to warn you BigMoFo's are on the whole quite significantly more than 30lbs overweight so be prepared for some seriosu "food Issues" type talk!

WWB I'm happy to discuss the approach to weight posting - don't mind a separate thread or if we start a new thread each month there will only be 4 or fice weekly weighins so hopefully it wouldn't be too diifcult to follow.

If we continue sending you weights I would suggest that we stick it in excel so that its easier to pass on to others and indeed perhsp we could rotate it monthly so we each only get to do it two or three months a year.

You're with the real heavyweights here, you know Most of us have between five and ten stone to lose, and as Kew said there will probably be some heavyweight (pardon the pun) discussion of the kind of food issues which tend to affect people with long-term weight problems and long-term weight loss plans. You are more than welcome to hitch along for the ride though!

I don't have Excel, Kew. I don't think I have any spreadsheet, actually. Although if we decide not to go with collating weights anymore then it's immaterial really! I just thought it would be nice for those who weren't party to our discussion earlier to have the chance to stick their twopenceworth in as well.

Am perfectly easy, and more than happy to go along with the flow - whatever everyone decides they are happy with.

Thanks for starting this, WWB . I'm happy whichever we all decide to do on the weights. Don't have a strong preference for any of the options over the others, except possibly a wish to spare WWB the job of collating things.

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 22:30

I'm OK with the collating things normally.

It's just when I go and hide under the bed or in the wardrobe or something and someone else has to do the collating that it gets awkward!

Having the separate thread for weights or losses would solve that, of course.

Hi all, lovely to see you yesterday . My car needs a good hoover out after dd spread the contents of her doggy bag all over it

On reflection I think I like the idea of a separate chat thread and weight thread. I think that sometimes it's easier to keep the actual figures and discussion of ishoos separate. The chat can interrupt tracking the weight, and vice versa too. That said, if everyone prefers to keep it together then I'm not likely to flounce over it so happy to go with the majority.

I have digital scales and the battery has run out!! I have a rough idea what I weigh but until I remember to buy a new battery I haven't got an exact figure.

Hot cross bun. Is it Easter, eh?. Btw, TigerFeet - the DCs found your DD's bracelets yesterday when they were tidying up - if you email me your address, I'll stick them in the post.

Littlefish how are you? Missed you yesterday! I got stuck in that traffic jam too but I had no idea where I was or how to get round it so I just sat tight until it cleared. Took almost an hour

I have followed your threads with interest and wondered whether I may join, I think meet the requirements would ideally love to lose 5 stone and hopefully 7 and have made a small start but need the support and encouragement as well.

Just what we need, Jackie

Sorry you couldn't get to us yesterday, Littlefish. We missed you.

Nice to have you with us, FiveGoMad

Tell me to go boil my head if you want to, but I was wondering whether we might benefit from each setting ourselves some small individual goals? Setting a first weight or loss to aim for, planning some extra exercise?

Welcome FiveGoMad . Love the name.

Individual goals are a good idea, WWB. I really do need to get back to doing the running. It didn't particularly seem to help with weight loss, but I could see a difference in my shape. I swore I'd get back to it in the summer holidays, but never did. I think that will have to be my goal - get back to running 3 times a week, or as close to that as I can manage.

hello, hello!
i hope you had a lovely time
I am keen to start again. I am completely unmotivated. I have stuck at shifting around 2 stone, would like to lose another 3, but it's been winter and I've been crap. I have managed not to pile it all back on though, only about 3 pounds that keeps going on and off

i need those kicks up the arse and I NEED to start running again (has lapsed as too dark in the evenings and I was ill for aaaaaaages and then when I was going to join the gym I was getting too much work in the evenings to make it worthwhile). Excuses, excuses. but now it's nearly Spring and I don't want yet ANOTHER summer ruined by being a complete lardarse.

so perhaps you and I should try and get running again Jackie. i was really enjoying it, annoyed I've stopped

Hey MrsJC - running sounds good. I think I'll be starting pretty much from scratch with a walk/run combination. Oh gosh I probably ought to stop putting it off till another time and go today, shouldn't I. Hmm - will consider it.

Tomorrow we're apparently off to Brands Hatch to watch cars going round and round - we'll be leaving at 7.30am . That'll be a bit of a shock to the system, I can tell you!

Report
WigWamBam · 30/08/2008 12:20

I can't run - a combination of knackered knees and being just too big. I walk a lot already, so my initial exercise target is to increase the speed I walk to and from (and to and from, and to and from) school. Aim for a brisk walk which leaves me a bit breathless, particularly on the four journeys where I don't have dd with me.

I also promise not to cheat and catch the bus instead (but reserve the right to renege on that if I have gone from school to the shops and have heavy shopping in my hands!).

Brands Hatch, Jackie ... can you contain your excitement?

Nice to see you, MrsJC.

Agree the running can definitely be tough on knees. Yours sounds like a good target. And one that you can constantly increase, iyswim, so you're always challenging yourself to go a bit faster, as you get fitter.

By the way, not sure whether these might work for your DD - I had a feeling it was La Redoute that did different fittings.

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 13:21

They also do Straight ones with turnups
Narrow leg
and bermudas, and Pedal pushers (not convinced about those last ones, tbh - not keen on the buttons at the bottom).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/08/2008 13:33

Oh my God didn't realise la redout did plus sizes.

Goals - using my gym membershiop and going 2-3 times a week. We run a B&B so summer it is impossible to go if we want to do family things as well, so in a couple of weeks will start doing that again.

Report
JackieNo · 30/08/2008 13:38

It's really difficult to fit stuff like that in, isn't it FiveGoMad - I find life's just so much simpler if I don't do the running, I really have to make myself do it.

The La Redoute 'Taillissime' range is size 14 to 34.

Hope the jeans for DD work. She's welcome to have the dress she had on yesterday though....

Hi folks! Glad this is back! How did the meet up go? Who went?

Report
JackieNo · 30/08/2008 15:50

It was fun, hecate - we had me (well, it was at my house, I kind of had to be there), WWB, TigerFeet and Kewcumber. Littlefish was hoping to come, but due to some traffic chaos, that also delayed TigerFeet, decided to cut her losses and head home . We just chatted, wrangled children (mine mostly), ate, drank tea, chatted some more.
