What are the most important aspects of laundry to you? Find out what Mumsnet users told Fairy Non Bio

NOW CLOSED

Laundry can be a surprisingly personal thing - whether you have a special way of hanging out your clothes or a foolproof way of getting your clothes to smell great. With this in mind, Fairy Non Bio would like to hear what you consider the most important when it comes to laundry, and what you’d love your laundry detergent to do.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “We have some people tell us that scent is the key to a great wash, others who won’t compromise of softness or those who are all about natural ingredients or the gentleness of the formula. We would love to know what you just cannot not go without?”

Do you focus on getting rid of any odour from your clothes? Perhaps it’s important to you that your laundry products are skin-friendly for the entire family? Maybe you put a lot of energy into keeping your clothes in great condition? Are you a lover of fabric conditioner, keen to ensure that your clothes are all super soft?

Whatever the most important aspect of laundry is to you, share this on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My most important criteria is that it is clean and doesn’t give my DC a reaction. Smelling nice is a bonus.

I want my clothes to be clean and smell fresh. We're a messy family with lots of "stains" - from spilled food, mud and grass and sweaty armpits so I really want any laundry detergent to be able to deal with these.

Soft clothes. Can not stand dry/itchy fabrics. Good fabric conditioner every time.

Fresh smelling and stain free.

Definitely smelling fresh and clean is most important. A bonus is getting washing out on the line when it's a dry day!

My main priority has to be the detergent, conditioner and stain treatment - I am very limited in what I can use because of my allergy.

But the real priorities, ie what I teach my dc, are: read the washing label to filter out delicates, empty pockets, do up flies, bag up bras, and sort by colour.

Stain-free and fresh and no discernible smell. I don't want any gimmicks.

Oh god yes empty pockets. Nothing more demoralising than seeing a tissue shred into a million pieces in the machine Angry.

Doesn't make dds eczema flare up. That's the most important thing.

I suppose the second is basically just keeping on top of it. I don't have a tumbler so can end up with washing mountains in the winter.

I am fussy about how to peg the washing out on the line!

I know this is for Fairy but I always think of the old Daz bluey white adverts when I'm doing a white wash. That's what I aim for.

I also like a really fresh strong (sorry sensitive skin owners) smell. I don't care about soft clothes, I'm rather partial to a very clean, crusty towel after a shower.

Effective stain removal is probably key for us as a young family!

There's a threshold for how clean clothes need to be to be considered clean and I'm pretty sure even the cheapest, most basic detergent would meet that threshold when used in a washing machine. So I'm not fussy about which detergent I use because they all do the job. However I like fabric softener because I like the smell. Maybe that's the best part for me. A nice smell. Fabric softener doesn't make my clothes soft though, not sure how that works. The only thing that makes my clothes soft is being in the tumble dryer so we have soft clothes in winter, but stiff scratchy ones in summer when it's hanging out time!

My hubby and eldest daughter both get eczema so the most important thing to me is using the right detergent. And also whether the non-bio is strong enough to make clothes clean whilst not irritating their skin

The most important thing is that it’s clean first time and that it smells clean

Sparkly clean smelling washing machine so confident clothes washing powder and conditioner will do their best in cleaning clothes. love putting away fresh laundry.

My most important feature is a detergent that really tackle body odour smells. I hate it when clothes smell really bad under the arms a few hours after you put them on. I tend to have to use a specialist sports detergent every few weeks to keep on top of this for certain items (work uniform, tshirts ect) ☹️

Clean and stain-free! Smile

A nice smell is a bonus.

I'd like 'soft' laundry too, especially towels, but find it hard to achieve as conditioner causes a skin reaction Sad

Definitely scent for me! I love the smell of freshly washed clothes and if the scent lasts through the day that's a definite winner for me!

Laundry importance aspect: inevitable rogue black sock in whites wash idenitified and retrieved prior to impact

Detergent importance aspect: long lasting (so not having to use loads each time) and effective at 40 degrees

In order of priority:

Cleaning/stain removal - clothes of course have to be clean

Feel - feel soft (can’t be stiff and scratchy), fresh and a “having had a good wash” feeling

Scent - clothes smelling great

Look - look as new as possible
