This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Fairy Non Bio Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “We want to reach out to all of the mums and dads out there who are faced with a daily everest of dirty laundry and are the best judge of what works… and what doesn’t. We want to put our products to the test and see if they’re still the best for a family’s needs.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, plus giving any other feedback you’d like to share:

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
  2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
  3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

All testers who give their feedback on this thread and complete a short survey about their experience will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck!

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

To be honest the only thing I liked was the dosing cap that came with the bottle! I found the detergent was not great at removing stains, and didn’t leave a particularly good fragrance on the clothes. The fabric softener seemed watered down and again didn’t make the clothes smell nice and fresh.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I wouldn’t purchase them.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

No, I would not recommend.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

The dosing cap was good and the bottle doesn’t produce lots of sticky residue mess like other liquid detergents I’ve tried. The fabric softener didn’t seem to make the clothes particularly soft or nicely scented.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would buy the washing liquid if it was on offer, but not the fabric softener.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Neither were particularly amazing if I’m being honest, so probably not!

What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked that they were both liquid, so I didn't have powder spilling everywhere.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? Possibly, if on a special offer. I wasn't too impressed with the cleaning power or smell of the conditioner.
  2. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Probably not.

I liked the dosing cap as others have said. No mess (unless you drop it everywhere! like me) and I like the smell. I think the clothes smell clean without being overpowering. I'm not so sure about it being good on stains, it didn't remove even simple washable felt tip pens from t-shirts.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

possibly, if i used some Vanish with it.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Not particularly.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

As with other posters the dosing cap was brilliant, saved wastage and allowed an accurate measurement. The clothes smelt fresh without being overpowering. I found the softener worked well on small wash loads but not on larger ones.

In terms of stain removal I had to wash a second time and add some napisan to remove mud from football kits and baby poo from clothing.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? If they were on offer I would definitely buy them but would be unlikely to at full price.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would recommend for baby clothing but probably not for bigger wash loads.

  1. I liked everything about them. The laundry comes out of the machine beautifully clean and soft. The fragrance is perfect, not strong but lovely and fresh.
Most importantly, it has worked in my family (psoriasis and eczema sufferers) without any reaction.
The cap on the laundry liquid is handy for removing stains too - I was sceptical but it did seem to help.

  2. Very likely to buy these products in future. I have been struggling to find laundry products without harsh, overpowering smells that still help the garments come out 'fresh' - extremely happy with the results and have been looking at more products from the non-bio range.

  3. I have recommended the products to 2 family members since using them - one because she is about to have a baby and the other because she could smell the products on one of the blankets in my home and wanted to know what I used.
I would recommend in future without a doubt.

I Loved the Smell of the Products, so Fresh yet Delicate and not at all overpowering. It has amazing cleaning power even on a cold Wash! Even on the stubborn Pizza/pasta stains left by my 2 year old!
There wouldn't be anything I would personally change about the Products, I love them! I've even put the conditioner diluted in a spray bottle and spray it around the House to freshen everything up, it's beautiful!

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I will be using them! And Stocking up! The cleaning power is Amazing, even on a quick wash, they come up super soft with the softener and a lovely Gentle scent, I love it!

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes definitely! I've already recommended to My mum, and she's gone out and purchased & also fell in love with it! She also loved the delicacy of the Perfume, we are all impressed

I love the smell, especially of the detergent, clothes were soft and haven't affected any of the family's skin.

Very likely, depending on price.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I like that Fairy is a trusted brand and felt confident that the product would be gentle for my young childrens’ skin. I liked the size of the bottle (plenty of washes) and the smell is clean and light, quite delicate. I like my clothes smelling a bit more strongly of fabric conditioner but I like my kids clothes to just be clean and soft.
The packaging is a little boring but I assume it is meant to be ‘simple’ as the product is non bio and therefore sort of no-added additives and the packaging reflects the simplicity, but it doesn’t catch your eye.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I wouldn’t say that the clothes were any softer than they are when I use my usual Comfort fabric conditioner and own brand supermarket wash liquid. They were softer than using no fabric conditioner. The fresh smell when you open the bottle didn’t transfer onto the clothes. As I said, I trust that fairy would do a good job of cleaning them as a well known and trusted brand but there was nothing remarkable about the cleanliness of the clothes.
When we had newborns we would religiously use Fairy as a trusted brand but now they are a bit older and less delicate I would only buy this product if it was on offer. There was nothing stand-out about them to make me seek them out in a shop.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Only to a nervy first time mum who had a newborn with delicate skin.

Thanks for letting me test 😊

Thanks MNHQ & Fairy for letting me try these products.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

Liked the dosing device & bottle was easy to hold / use.

Laundry smelled nice & fresh but not over powering, artificial or too strong.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

If on offer yes I would. But I never buy laundry stuff full price & I'm not brand loyal.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I probably wouldn't recommend it any more than the other brands on the market.

I liked the lid aspect that you can just pour the liquid straight into it without making a mess,
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I'd buy the washing liquid, but not the comfort it didn't make the clothes any softer and it didn't make them smell nice at all.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends? I would the washing liquid but not the comfort it's quite watery too and I prefer a softer feeling and a lasting scent.

1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I think the dosing cap was an excellent addition. I struggle to see without my glasses but as the markings were in a dark grey and the liquid was blue it made it really easy to know how much I was putting in when I couldn't see very well. I also loved that the cap went straight in the machine so it wasn't much different from my usual detergent pods. The perfume was lovely, not overly pungent and just smelt very fresh and clean.

It also didn't set of a skin reaction to anyone in our family, which is also an impressive feat. It was lovely on soft on our 13 week old sons skin as well.

I think the addition of a similar style cap or marking on the existing cap on the fabric softener would be amazing. I kept putting in too much or too little simply because there was no accurate marking.

The detergent also struggled getting rid of mammoth baby poo explosion stains from white onesies even with pretreating and adding in extra detergent as instructed. The stains came out after two washes so maybe I needed more detergent then required. When using my usual laundry pods, I usually have to put in 2 pods so maybe the dosage just needed increasing more?

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I think it's a given in our household now that we are definitely going to pick up the fabric softener, especially if we can figure out the right dosage.

The detergent itself is a maybe. We did love the smell and how it didn't set of reactions on our skin but we can't spend money on a product if it falls short on stain removal.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I've recommended it to my sister and mum who have the same super sensitive skin as me and they've picked some up. I've yet to hear how they get on. I'm hoping it works better for them as they are unlikely to have stains that rival baby poo.

I'd definitely recommend it to those who have sensitive skin or young children with the notice that the stain removal properties might not be as strong as desired.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the smell of both, very fresh and clean smelling, but it was too strong for me. I liked the lid for the liquid as it has a scrubber bit to rub stains. Good stain removal, I decided to test it by washing a poo stain straight away (after rinsing in cold water) - I would usually soak the item first maybe in some detergent, but I put it straight in the wash with my load and it came out beautifully. The softner worked well. We don't usually use softner expect for knitted items so it was a nice treat. I couldn't really tell much difference for everyday items with using the softner, but I liked using it on my "delicate" work tops etc, they turned out really nicely.

I don't like putting the doser in the drum as told to in the instructions on the back, pouring the doser into my drawer didn't work as it left lots of liquid in so I ended up using my own doser. I thought the detergent didn't really last all that long either, but then it's a smaller size than I usually purchase.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Won't purchase the laundry liquid as I am happy with my current Aldi one which is miles cheaper. I also like using powder as this comes in a cardboard box rather than plastic, so better for the environment. I will consider the softner when I next need some as I liked it, but I think it worked just as well as other brands I've used so I would just go for the cheapest I can find.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Not really. I don't really "buy into" the need for non bio, lots of countries don't even have it. But I was impressed with the stain removal which I wasn't expecting from a non bio liquid.

Thanks for letting me test! I enjoyed using it and liked the change, but for me there are cheaper products out there which are just as good.

I like the dosing cap and the mess free bottle. Also found it was non irritating to our skin.
Maybe could be improved with a lasting scent.

If on offer I’d buy both. Would have to be competitively priced.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Perhaps if the subject came up. Wouldn’t be a ‘must tell my friends about this’ but would say it was nice stuff if asked.

Nice smell and the washing was beautifully clean and bright. My daughters sensetive skin has been fine with it.
I prefer liquid that goes in the drawer as I am forever losing the dosing capsule and they seem like unnecessary plastic.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Would buy if on a good offer but couldn’t justify the premium cost all the time.

Love the fresh fragrance of the products - very light and 'clean' smelling; not overpowering to irritate my sensitive sinuses and allergies. Also happy by how soft and pliable the clothes are when dry.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Highly likely. I already buy the liquid for my youngest but hadn't tried the softener before and would definitely continue to use - provided the price is right.

Definitely. I think the products would be suitable for people with sensitive skin and/or allergies and I have plenty of those people in my family.

The washing smelt amazing when it come out of the washing machine. However after drying on the airer or tumble dryer I couldn't smell it anymore which was a shame.

Clothes were clean, though didn't have any really dirty clothes to test eg mud, paint, blood so can't tell how well they would do on that kind of thing.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Quite likely if it was on offer, however couldn't pay more than I would usually pay. I always choose whatever is cheapest/on offer when I need it. I don't tend to stick to a particular brand.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would, though not necessarily any more than I'd recommend other detergent/softeners I've used. I'm not feeling like I need to rush out and tell everyone about how amazing it is. It's ok, did the job. But if there's a cheaper one that'll do the job too (and the scent lasts longer) then I'd recommend that one.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the non sickly fragrances, although prefer a fresher tea tree style scent as a personal preference. I liked the design, with the dimples on the handle for grip, as I have a weak grip from a recent injury. I liked that they were not bright colours so less likely to attract kids on the shelf. My husband said that the softener made the washing dry faster, we don't usually use a softener so this was an unexpected bonus. One of the bottles was not full to the top quite a gap which would be disappointing if I had paid for it.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Softener yes, washing liquid no, I felt it was too tempting to use more and I wouldn't get as many washes for my money. Also I didn't know prior to trying it that it couldn't be used on wool so would probably stick to powder. Saying that if I was well off I would prefer the liquid it takes up less space and is less messy than powder. I didn't like putting the liquid in the drum I would prefer drawer with young kids it seems risky.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends? The softener definitely, liquid I'm a bit meh about.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

The fairy non bio washing liquid did a good job at cleaning most stains from the children’s clothes. I’ve never actually used a liquid before but it really was very good!
The softener was disappointing. I wanted it to leave a smell or something which it didn’t do.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would definitely buy the washing liquid. It was great.
I wouldn’t buy the softener. To be honest, I didn’t really see the point of it. It was quite watery, didn’t seem to have an effect on “softness” and didn’t leave a pleasant smell either.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would recommend the washing liquid, but not the softener.
