Including in cases of rape and incest.
Bye bye women's rights.

This is truly scary what is happening

Baloonphobia Wed 15-May-19 06:25:17

But America is huge on rights. Like the right to have a gun. Apparently waaay more important.

PigeonofDoom Wed 15-May-19 06:33:34

How much do lawmakers have to hate women to think that them dying in illegal back street abortions is a good thing? Unbelievable.

PrincessTiggerlily Wed 15-May-19 06:35:02

DNA tests are available now so all DFs should have to pay maintenance -wonder if they've thought of this.

StealthPolarBear Wed 15-May-19 06:35:09

You're right. I'm guessing it's anything that furthers the rights of men, and sets back the rights of women thay they're interested in.

Welcome to Gilead, Alabama

Loopytiles Wed 15-May-19 06:37:50

Will the Supreme Court allow this?

indianbackground Wed 15-May-19 06:48:41

I think they are try to skirt round the Supreme Court Roe v Wade because there are very slim exceptions so abortion is still legal in theory. I wonder how widely the one about health risk to mother will be stretched? Maybe not far if doctors risk life imprisonment. CNN

The law only allows exceptions "to avoid a serious health risk to the unborn child's mother," for ectopic pregnancy and if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly." Democrats re-introduced an amendment to exempt rape and incest victims, but the motion failed on an 11-21 vote.

What century are we now in?

Op:
Why are you worried about women in Alabama? ( unless you live in the U.S )
Abortion is illegal in parts of the UK.

OhFFSMary Wed 15-May-19 06:58:35

I don’t understand why, with Roe v. Wade in existence, states can still make this law?

I am genuinely horrified that it is allowed, horrified. A man can rape a woman and then that woman is legally bound to carry and birth the child. A teenager can be sexually abused by a parent then have to carry and give birth to the child. As well as the shocking violation of the women in those scenarios what about the children, potentially living with the knowledge they are products of rape or incest.

What the bloody hell has this world become?

OhFFSMary Wed 15-May-19 07:00:32

Why are you worried about women in Alabama? ( unless you live in the U.S )

Can I answer for you OP?

Why the hell wouldn’t you be?!! The erosion of a women’s right to choose impacts us all. It sets precedents all over the world. You’d be INSANE to ignore it.

IStillMissBlockbuster Wed 15-May-19 07:00:32

Weird question tomtom. Why wouldn't we be concerned? If they're in another country, are they less human?

mollysshadow Wed 15-May-19 07:00:53

'Under his eye'
Utterly repugnant

OhFFSMary Wed 15-May-19 07:02:38

Also...What if your daughter decides to study in the US? Marries a US citizen? Lots of us have many friends in the states. They are (especially in the face of Brexit) our most powerful ally. Ignoring what happens there is obtuse.

tomtom1999xx Wed 15-May-19 07:03:19

Yes, sorry, very badly worded. blush
It’s just women here in the UK are still being denied abortions.

MustardScreams Wed 15-May-19 07:03:28

It’s about women’s rights as a whole being erased. It doesn’t matter where you live, as a woman seeing anything like this is horrendous. You can’t be a feminist just for UK women.

okkkorniienko Wed 15-May-19 07:04:08

I think it's not right.
We all can have the choice, cause in my life i don't want to destroy the child's life.

StealthPolarBear Wed 15-May-19 07:04:21

tomtom1999xx I have a general interest in global health and women's rights. Why wouldn't you be interested, unless you have your head in the sand?

OhFFSMary Wed 15-May-19 07:06:54

In the US can you travel out of state to have an abortion? Are their legal consequences if you do?

StealthPolarBear Wed 15-May-19 07:07:01

In fact what a very strange question to ask. Do you go through life only thinking about issues that present themselves under your nose and have an impact directly on you or your family? What a blinkered, miserable way to live.

OhFFSMary Wed 15-May-19 07:07:57

Are THERE legal consequences I meant!

StealthPolarBear Wed 15-May-19 07:08:52

I'm wondering the same.

tomtom1999xx Wed 15-May-19 07:10:41

Op;
I have apologised for my badly worded post.
My point was, abortion is being denied to women in parts of our own country, and maybe we have more power to do something about that 1st.
