Husband's awful name suggestions!

annaj83 · 18/01/2022 13:50

My husband's absolutely set on several absolutely awful names! I'm trying to convince him otherwise, but MIL and even some of my family are on his side. Don't know gender.
Please tell me I'm not going crazy, these names are awful
Indy
Jolene
Cosmo
Estella
Trisha
Kiana
Aliesha
Chastity

I honestly fear a child named any of those would be absolutely bullied. Any advice?

They’re not the best 😂

They’re each as horrific as each other, other than Indy at a push, although that reminds me of the very annoying Joe Wicks. He has a daughter called Indy.

Only Estella.

Well erm yes, def not Chastity or Trisha (unless you are Cher obvs)

Indy, Cosmo, Estella work for me though.

Why are either side of the family involved?

Chastity is awful. What a creepy message to send your daughter - you must remain chaste?! I'd be seriously worried if dh suggested that, it goes beyond "different tastes" and into the realm of different values. (Am I reading too much into this? I don't think so)

Love Estella. Some of the others not to my taste but not as bad as you're making out. Apart from Trisha and chastity of course.

I know a seven year old India who is Indy as a nickname, she’s lovely. Estella is ok at a push.

Jolene is the Dolly Parton song, Cosmo is a boy’s name, Trisha is the 90s ITV daytime presenter & her show. Chastity is 100% the worst, I can’t believe anyone would use that (and I’m not against virtue names at all but really?!) Kiana looks made up and Aliesha misspelled (Alicia, Alesha maybe, but that spelling..)

I agree it's quite possibly the worst of them all. I don't think that was the intent though I think he likes the name, and it was his great aunt's name as well

Yes I’m not keen on any of those suggestions. Cosmo is usually a boys name. Estella is ok but it does bring beer to mind.
Will baby be having his surname? I wouldn’t agree to any name I wasn’t completely happy with if I were you. I also wouldn’t be involving in-laws for sure. What sort of names do you like?

We're a very close-knit family and MIL is currently living with us. I'm feeling outnumbered here. Nobody seem to like my names, which are simpler
(Nell, Jane, May, Diana for a girl and Jack, Charlie, Will for a boy)

Yikes I thought my DH had questionable taste in names…those are truly horrific! They’re not even a consistent type, the only thing they have in common is being horrendous!

Good luck OP Grin

I think Estella is a lovely name for a daughter. What about it don’t you like? We could find some names that are similar and workshop from there?

And besides, if the baby is a boy, most of his suggestions are a moot point anyway 🙃

They're all dire

Estella is the best of them but it looks like a mashup of Estelle and Stella, both of which I prefer.

Sorry I can’t stop chuckling at the image of introducing baby Trish to the group at rhyme time Shock

My husbands granny was called Fanny, doesn’t mean we considered it as a name for our daughter 😂

I like Estella, but the rest...

I'm with you OP. I wouldn't choose any of those. Estella just made me think of lager! India shortened to Indy would be OK but there are much better names to choose.

Stella would be ok, but Estella sounds like the name of a grandma. Brings Great Expectations to mind
