I have just been to visit my Aunt and Uncle, both early 80s, very quiet living couple.
They live in a culture de sac of other retired folks.
They have put up a sign on the gatepost at the end of their drive.
They proudly made it themselves.
The house is now named "Belle End"
Do I tell them?? blush

Tut, cul de sac hmm

mumofBeth Sat 25-Jan-20 17:06:33

Brilliant!!! Oh you can't tell them though, they might know and be having a wee chuckle to themselves!!

I would think they already know. It's tongue in cheek.

SquareAsABlock Sat 25-Jan-20 17:07:05

Yes tell them. Before this one ends up in the shit rags like the Mail or similar and they end up reading it elsewhere.

Lol do they know what it means ? I'd have to tell them.

My BIL has a friend who called his house Dunshitting.

Noooo! shock
They couldn't possibly know?
He is a lay minister in their local church and she is president of the WI blush

Cupoftea391 Sat 25-Jan-20 17:08:23

He he! Love this

Sparklesocks Sat 25-Jan-20 17:09:13

Sounds perfect

mumofBeth Sat 25-Jan-20 17:10:08

How on earth would you explain it to them though???

DrinkFeckArseGirls Sat 25-Jan-20 17:11:04

If it supposed to be French (ignoring the word “end” hmmwink), then it should be End Belle.

QuestionableMouse Sat 25-Jan-20 17:11:09

Show them the page on urban dictionary of course 😂

riotlady Sat 25-Jan-20 17:11:23

Hahahahaha, I think they probably know and just have a dodgy sense of humour

Laiste Sat 25-Jan-20 17:11:25

Where does the 'Belle' bit come from? Is it a name in the family? If not i'd assume they know very well what it means and it's their joke.

Justcallmebebes Sat 25-Jan-20 17:13:25

Brilliant. I know a Judge whose house is called Little Butt. His kids were mortified by it as they grew older. I want to live in a culture de sac tho!

lottiegarbanzo Sat 25-Jan-20 17:18:49

What makes you think they don't know? Does older age erase former knowledge?

DontCallMeShitley Sat 25-Jan-20 17:18:54

Kind of negates the Culture de Sac. Would like to live in one of those grin.

memberofseven Sat 25-Jan-20 17:21:01

My dad is 80. He would know exactly what it means!

theweebleshavelanded Sat 25-Jan-20 17:21:34

nooooo don`t tell them!

Serin Sat 25-Jan-20 17:23:03

The Belle comes from the street name, think along the lines of "Bella vista Ave" and they are at the end of it.

LeggyLinda Sat 25-Jan-20 17:23:41

I’m convinced they knew what they were doing. And it is hilarious.

WizzyBee Sat 25-Jan-20 17:25:47

Back in the 50s my african grandparents called their house 'Kidonapo'.
Sounds sort of exotic until you realise it was actually 'Kid on a po'. It was entirely deliberate!

Roussette Sat 25-Jan-20 17:25:52

Serin That is hilarious! I can imagine they don't know, given their ages.

My dear old Mum long departed used the very wrong word .... hard to explain, but if they were going on a long journey somewhere she would say something like...
"We have to leave early to go and see Beryl and John, it's such a wank down to Devon at our age"

I left her to it... not easy to explain blush

Serin Sat 25-Jan-20 17:26:09

lottiegarbanzo No of course old age doesn't erase former knowledge, but they are so straight laced I cant imagine they would use it if they knew the meaning.
I keep wondering if the have registered it with the post office!
