To think someone else could’ve made better use of this Marathon place?

its obviously really difficult to get a place in the Marathon... a record amount of people applied for the ballot and after that you have to try and get a charity place and pledge to raise X amount for them. My DH is running for a charity and we have worked really hard to raise the required money, having a raffle, quiz, auction, getting sponsors and match funding by his company means that he has raised over 5k so far (without the matching). I know a few others running and they’ve done all sorts to raise the money for their charities and really worked at it.

I saw Katie Price post earlier that she was running for the British Lung foundation, and nosily clicked her link to see how much she’d raised... having a celebrity run for you must be amazing, they have such a platform and can attract massive donors.

She had made £500. Now, that’s a lot of money to me! But it seems she only very recently made her page and publicised it... it makes me feel annoyed for the people I know who would’ve loved a place and raised far far more.

I’m sure she will raise more (by tomorrow!), but to give the charity the best chance of money they need, surely posting this more than a couple of days before the Marathon should have been a prerequisite?

Just annoyed me. I’m probably being unreasonable! grin

Nah they’re probably more interested in the publicity of her running for them. Her mum has lung probs doesn’t she?

Bet she doesn’t even finish. Same as the awful effort those Towie lot put in (might have been Jade Goody actually)

She could well top up whatever she's raised with her own money to make the charity's required amount for having one of their places. Plus the added publicity of having someone known run for them.

I'm sure there are lots of people who essentially buy a charity place with their own money, who don't have the profile that KP does, so this doesn't bother me.

She didn't finish

CocoaGin Sun 22-Apr-18 19:49:06

Was she officially running? She didn't appear to have a number on and was standing in front of the empty start? I'd go with self promotion tbh. Loathsome woman.

kissthealderman Sun 22-Apr-18 19:51:33

Loved this guy.

AssassinatedBeauty Sun 22-Apr-18 19:51:44

She's raised her target and raised awareness. Can't complain about that.

KevinTheYuccaPlant Sun 22-Apr-18 19:54:54

Her stated target was £2,000 and she said in an interview that her longest training run was 6.5 miles because she wanted to save her energy for the big day. I agree that someone else would have probably raised more money for the charity.

MaryPoppinsPenguins Sun 22-Apr-18 20:09:09

Well my DH finished and I’m so proud grin 6k plus matching raised for children With Cancer 🎈

None of this story adds up,

The person called Katie Price didn't make it past the second time check according to the marathon website.

Also I've not seen a single photo of her with any other runners in the background.

And most telling, she didn't have a registration number on her on any photos.

She could raise much more money much more quickly if she chose to.

Well done to your DH, OP. That's brilliant!

Re KP..YANBU!

Crispbutty Sun 22-Apr-18 20:22:57

Gordon and tana Ramsey had places and didn’t even run at all so why single out katie price? I’m sure there were plenty of others too.

Namastethefuckawayfromme Sun 22-Apr-18 20:25:42

There was a piece on this weeks Popbitch mail regarding KP and the marathon.

She was apparently booked for a PA at a nightclub in Redcar last night (2am) about a five hour drive to London. She also wasn't actually registered to run (as if Thursday, this could have changed I suppose) according to race organisers.

Well done to your DH!

MrsJayy Sun 22-Apr-18 20:27:10

Well done Mr poppin penguins star

As for Katie Price and the like yanbu but it raises the charity and sleb profile I think spaces are allocated for celebs

InspMorse Sun 22-Apr-18 20:27:54

Was she actually registered to run?? Was it an official sponsorship? Did she finish? (Above post says no)
She's a waste of space.

Namastethefuckawayfromme Sun 22-Apr-18 20:28:10

*As of Thursday

MrsJayy Sun 22-Apr-18 20:28:19

Sorry yanbu and it is a total farce

StopBeingNosey Sun 22-Apr-18 20:32:16

If people want to run the marathon then they should pay for their place themselves and give the money to charity out of their own pocket. I would never ask people to fund my hobby. Especially when you can go for a run completely free of charge if you want to. I get that it’s good that it raises money, I just think sponsorship is such a weird concept.

KP was entered into the marathon by a charity. She’s entered a few times before and (I think) not finished before. She dressed up as a pair of lungs though and got loads of coverage about it. I’m sure that goes down as a win from the charities POV. Which, if it is all about charity, is surely better than someone shaking their tin at all their friends, raising a bit and then never thinking of the charity again.

Gordon and tana Ramsey had places and didn’t even run at all so why single out katie price? I’m sure there were plenty of others too.

I guess the difference is they aren't making it look like they ran it.

Mummyoflittledragon Sun 22-Apr-18 20:35:26

Why register and not run or raise nothing? Bizarre. And self centred as you’re pointing out op.

Namastethefuckawayfromme Sun 22-Apr-18 20:36:34

So a quick nose in the marathon site suggests that KP was registered, started the race at about 10.40 am and ran (I use the word very loosely) 10k in two hours. But then nothing.

Yes, both Ramsays were registered but did not run which is a shame for other people who would have loved their places.

It is a farce really, celebrities who do no training and no preparation and yet have the arrogance to think they can just run a marathon. I believe Kerry Katona did similar.

Livruns Sun 22-Apr-18 20:36:37

We saw her at the expo on Saturday. Just for those saying she was at PA on Sat night.

Namastethefuckawayfromme Sun 22-Apr-18 20:39:25

I said she was 'apparently ' booked for the PA, I've no idea if she did it or not.

upsideup Sun 22-Apr-18 20:44:32

We saw her today at around 8 miles barely walking also on the app she was registered at 10k so she did try. My husband also ran today raising money for the NSPCC but he wasnt able to create numerous headlines and extensive publicity and awareness for his charity like she was. I also think its generally in her advantage to fuck up, shes not well liked so few would rush to praise or congratulate if she had completed it but if she had to pull out from injury (probably due to lack of training) people love to and are quick to jump at the opportunity to put her down so more publicity for her and her charity.

Nicknacky Sun 22-Apr-18 20:46:44

What annoys me about this as she was in a magazine interview last week where she was bragging about how little training she had done. I did the marathon last year and I was grateful for my place and she just throws that back in folks faces.

Injury is one thing you can't avoid but she didn't even try to run or complete it and gave up by 9 miles. Waste of a space.
