Following on from the interesting & informative London thread.

For me the NW is Liverpool & surrounding areas. However I'm sure others will say the NW is much further north or south....

I'm really interested to see the replies...

I'm in Cumbria, only part of the county gets Granada!
I'm also dubious of Liverpool /Manchester/Cheshire as they are so far from us.

TheRealBarenziah Fri 02-Sep-16 08:27:32

I am from Liverpool originally and recently moved to Sandbach (south Cheshire, not far from the dreaded Crewe). It definitely still feels like the North West, in terms of accents, attitudes, and which local news we get! Interestingly, when DP and I were looking for a place to live, we explored some places just over the border in Staffordshite (sic - best graffiti of a road sign ever - at the M6 junction 16/ D road junction!) and that definitely felt like the Midlands. Stoke definitely feels like north Midlands to me.

The North West is old (before 1972) Cumberland and Westmoreland.

The North East is old Northumberland and County Durham.

Together they make up the Real North.

Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire . . . pah. The better end of the Midlands.

Not that I am biased, but I am from Hartlepool, and let me tell you that recent research has conclusively established that the monkey was a French spy!

I remember listening to the election results one time (Jon Snow prob) and they were going to the north- east first
I thought blooming heck that's a first as I lived in Aberdeenshire, was it us? Course not, was it Newcastle area, no - it was Humberside - huh, for a programme with national interest it's a bit off.

Mumzypopz Fri 02-Sep-16 09:35:04

Not sure why people think we should ignore Wales and Scotland. The term North West refers to the whole of the Island, ie North West of the Island. So to me, the North is mainly Scotland and a bit lower, and the North West is Manchester over to Anglesey over in what is known as North Wales. Wales is not another Country as someone has stated, you don't need a passport to get in!!!! BBC weather always refers to weather in the North as being Scotland.

Gothgirl78 Fri 02-Sep-16 09:49:59

North west is Cheshire up to the borders. The North East is the historical counties of Durham and Northumberland . Hull is in Yorkshire which is an area in its own.

I agree Yorkshire is a region my itself.
(And God lives here).

I saw clearing - also read about a body being found at the old Limelight but not seen anymore about that.

Haha I know Indians, although I'm technically Wistaston so I am half common, half snob grin

Indians and Jamie - Crewe might be the dog end of the earth but it's our dog end!

Re limelight and edleston road - very sad.

I am Crewe green area btw - no where as posh as you lot!!! grin

Andrewofgg Fri 02-Sep-16 12:41:20

Gettingtherequickly God hurried through Yorkshire on his way to the Land of the Prince Bishops.

MindSweeper Fri 02-Sep-16 12:45:11

Why are people saying manchester and liverpool aren't NW confused

JamieVardysParty Fri 02-Sep-16 12:47:34

Ah I do miss Crewe, it's been a while since I lived there but family still there so go back when I can. I've been watching 999 What's Your Emergency and luckily it's the police officers who I know - poor BIL is sat there recognising all the criminals grin

Eolian Fri 02-Sep-16 12:51:21

I'm in Cumbria but had always lived down south until two years ago, so I have more of a southerner's view of what constitutes NW. I'd definitely include Liverpool and Manchester.

TheRealBarenziah Fri 02-Sep-16 12:52:34

Loving the Nantwich/Crewe/Sandbach massive! We should arrange a south Cheshire meetup!

Indians, I may well end up moving to Nantwich - we had to relocate in a hurry and picked Sandbach as it's handy for the motorway, but we will be looking to buy a house soon, and our circumstances will have changed such that immediate access to the M6 is no longer top priority. We've visited Nantwich a few times and like it, and there are lots of other doctors living there (we are a cliquey profession!). In fact, we're planning on wandering into Nantwich tonight for a bite to eat, if you can recommend anywhere nice... wine

JamieVardysParty Fri 02-Sep-16 13:05:07

I love Nantwich, if it was easier for DH to work in the UK, I'd be convincing him to move there. I grew up in the old part of Wistaston so also have a massive soft spot for there and Willaston.

Firenze does good pizza, Aroi Thai for thai food, Residence for good steak. I'd also look at the Crown Hotel - my sister says that it's been done up and is pretty nice.

Wester Ross, Sutherland, Caithness.

MinnieF1 Fri 02-Sep-16 14:26:38

I am also from south cheshire! Far better than the 'golden triangle' area hmm

I've been watching 999 what's your emergency too. I love recognising the local area and the Middlewich custody suite (not that I have ever been inside it).

inaclearingstandsaboxer Fri 02-Sep-16 14:31:10

Yay for south Cheshire!

You get more house for your money, you have great links to Manchester Liverpool and Birmingham via the m6. London on the train.

And the countryside is amazing. We have some nice places to eat and visit ( look up Tattenhall ice cream farm).

Tbh it is (to me) the best place to live!

rallytog1 Fri 02-Sep-16 14:34:55

Late to the convo but I'm from Wrea Green too 3cats and heate!
