Following on from the interesting & informative London thread.

For me the NW is Liverpool & surrounding areas. However I'm sure others will say the NW is much further north or south....

I'm really interested to see the replies...

I've started describing stoke as being the north Midlands. If I say just Midlands people assume Birmingham

Ditto balletgirlmum also on the boarder

LuluJakey1 · 03/09/2016 20:52

It's all the South to us up here in Northumberland.

YawningKasm · 03/09/2016 21:14

Where is the NW? It's Godzone country. Once I cross the border out of Cheshire I see the big sky & I'm home.

Merinocool · 03/09/2016 22:18

I'm in Cheshire and I always considered the north west being from Cheshire up to the borders.

Interesting that OP does not specify NW of what - but most posters assume England rather than UK.
It's this type of arrogance that fuels Scottish nationalism.

YawningKasm "Where is the NW? It's Godzone country."

I always thought it was "God's own" country, not "Godzone". Confused

Considering that the OP mentions Liverpool in her first post, it's pretty obvious she's talking about England without anyone needing to 'assume' anything.

That's rubbish sorry but it is. It's a geographical area that has has a label, we are told we live in the northwest, my TV even tells me. So I'm not going to go 'oh actually I don't live in the northwest after all because Scotland is higher. I'm the south!'

YawningKasm · 04/09/2016 10:17

It's a joke, Joyce.

'I always thought it was "God's own" country, not "Godzone".'

It's a little known fact that Godzone were the original boy band: Yahweh, Zeus, Allah, Buddha and Brahma. They were pretty successful in the Bronze Age but they spilt over artistic differences and we've been paying for it as humans ever since.

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2016 10:43

But God's Own County is Yorkshire.... Wink

For me, who used to live there, the North West is the west highlands and Outer Hebrides. But people do always seem to forget Scotland when describing locations!
