How many washes do you get?

I’ve just killed another washing machine (always bearings) apparently I just use it too much. I do 16 full loads a week and get almost 2 years so say approx 1600 washes. Apparently this is unreasonable bordering commercial Hmm

I’m not after a debate about rewearing pants, just tell me please how many washes do you reckon you get from a machine?

I do 4 loads on average a week and it's lasted 4 and a half years so far. 16 loads a week?!Shock

HeatingOnHeatingOff · 19/11/2021 16:46

I know Miele say their machines last 20 years based on 2 wash loads a week.

You are definitely hammering your machines which is why they are only lasting 2 years.

FATEdestiny · 19/11/2021 16:48

I do about 15-16 loads a week. We get about 2-3 years out of a 8-9kg washing machine, generally.

I've tried expensive ones and they don't last any longer. So I just buy the cheapest large load sized avaliable (It's usually Candy or Indesit) and accept that they don't last like they used to.

BTW - lots of washer problems can by DIY fixed, with the aid of YouTube how-to videos.

mindutopia · 19/11/2021 16:48

We do probably 6-7 loads a week. I have to say though, I’m 40 years old, and have literally never broken a washing machine. Have left a few in places when we moved as it didn’t fit the new house, so then had to get a new one. But literally have never had to replace one we are still currently intending to use. I think the one in our current house pre-dated us by 5-10 years and it’s still working great 3 years later.

SockFluffInTheBath · 19/11/2021 16:49

4! Flipping heck how? Grin

Ok, few loads each black, white, bright colour, light colour cottons. 2 full loads of towels. 4 double/king bed sets. Stinky old dog blankets & towels. Stinky sports kits (few half loads). Delicates/woolens (DH work stuff).

I do a load a day. I had a Miele which lasted a good 15 years, then bought a Bosch which lasted 5 years (and needed repairing a few times), now have a Miele again which has been good for 4 years so far without problems

@FATEdestiny thank you, I’m thinking cheap and cheerful might be the way forward rather than giving Bosch £700 every other sodding year. DH is good at stuff like this but can’t find the parts for this one anywhere, and Bosch have basically called me widow twanky Blush

I do fewer now but did similar numbers to you when my children were at home, washing machines lasted around 5 ish years. Now do around 5-6 washes a week and have had this machine for 3 years with no signs of flagging. I live in a hard water area and use soda crystals in every wash (aside from delicates) to help to soften the water and hopefully prolong the life. I also run regular maintenance washes.

WakeUpLockie · 19/11/2021 16:57

Wow how big is your family?

I’d say we probably do 5 a week. I don’t separate anything and never had any issues. Family of 4 with kids under 7.

WakeUpLockie · 19/11/2021 16:58

Oh and had machine for 6 years and annoyed thinking that wasn’t long and temp button is on the blink!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/11/2021 17:01

I do about 20 loads a week (8 kids, 1 in cloth nappies, 2 adults) and my washing machine is about 5 years old I think. Tumble dryers on the other hand barely last 2 years.

TuftyMarmoset · 19/11/2021 17:01

16 loads a week?! Does a whole rugby team live at your house?

I do 2-3 loads a week. There’s only 2 of us but DP gets stinky as he cycles to work, and I’m dyspraxic so I spill a lot of stuff. We’ve lived here for two years and the washing machine came with the house (the house was let before we bought it), based on the other appliances I reckon it’s about 4 years old. Not showing any signs of age.

FOJN · 19/11/2021 17:20

I do 2 loads a week on average. I have an 11 year old Miele, never had a problem with it and I've also never broken a machine.

I lived in a rented flat with a beko for a while and I was impressed at how good it was considering the low price.

colditalianpizza · 19/11/2021 17:23

Why 16 loads a week?
Sounds mad

JustHereWithPopcorn · 19/11/2021 17:24

I probably do about 8-10 loads a week and just over 3 years I think my washing machine is on its way out soon Sad

EileenGC · 19/11/2021 17:25

I’ve also been impressed with my latest (cheap) Beko, although I don’t do near as many washes a week.

OP, are all these washes full? Or do you put the machine on with only half a load or so?

torquewench · 19/11/2021 17:26

I did maybe 5 loads a week with my previous machine, a 19 year old AEG that had been repaired a couple of times. The only reason it couldn't be repaired again was because the motherboard was obsolete, mechanically it was still perfect.

DickMabutt73962 · 19/11/2021 17:27
Confused

I can't comment on how I live now because I live alone but growing up in a family of 5 (2 parents 3 kids) it was one load a day, no separating colours malarkey. I'm still alive.

Angel2702 · 19/11/2021 17:27

4-5 years on our last one but bearings didn’t go on it.

We wash 10-12 loads a weeks roughly. 9kg drum.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 19/11/2021 17:28

I reckon I do 9 loads per week on average.
Last machine (Bosch) lasted 15 years
Current machine (also Bosch) is 4 years old and fine.

olderthanyouthink · 19/11/2021 17:28

I looked at sending washing out so actually bothered to count how much washing I did in a week and it was about 15 loads. It's a bit less now there's less bed wetting going on but we're also washing cloth nappies atm

MyComputerGetsSadWithoutMe · 19/11/2021 17:29

16 😮 I do about 4/5 loads a week. My light colour clothing just goes in with whites and dark colours go in with blacks, including bright reds. I've had my washer for 6 years and it's still okay, it was £180 when I got it.
