i went to bed for the last 20 minutes, my nerves could not take it when france woke up
but fantastic, just watched it
love the attitude by all at the end
best result in 60 years, hat trick for saka,

ShelleyCarpenter · 19/07/2026 05:42

Such an incredible game!!! I love our players so much.

HenriettaHippopotamus · 19/07/2026 06:34

Just saw score! Wow the perfect result that I didn’t think would happen. England wins and Mbappe is very likely to get the golden boot - I can’t see Messi winning it now which I’m glad.

StacyFromCroydon · 19/07/2026 07:13

Best game of the tournament, bar none.

No one could have predicted the results, it's the stuff dreams are made of.

This match will go down in World Cup history for all the right reasons!

It had everything ... proper gentlemanly play, fair refereeing, an amazing amount of goals and even a penalty thrown in!

Goldenbear · 19/07/2026 07:38

Great match- that was a joy to watch. The England team should be proud of their accomplishments and this is what I have said to my eldest and DH who didn't want to watch the game but then did join me as it clearly was one to watch. I think the culture around football in this country would be better if it took a leaf out of the book of Norwegian approach- no competitive football for children until 11, an encouragement of national patience, not constant disappointment. One of my nephews was spotted for a big club but the rejection is brutal for little kids, I think this is all wrong and you can see how this culture is reflected in the support for England and obviously much more severe with other international clubs. Personally I didn't enjoy the lack of sportsmanship that was evident in the semi final from the other team, there is no joy in watching that, it makes for quite boring football. The joy needs to return IMO.

LagerLady · 19/07/2026 12:23

The perfect result, England win and Mbappé scores 2, probably securing the golden boot.

dapsnotplimsolls · 19/07/2026 00:39

Mbappe looks like he's about 75.

😀

UglyBastardFace · 19/07/2026 14:45

I do like Mbappe simply because even with the amount of provocation he deals with, he still manages a smile (Paraguay and last WC final).

But what a wonderful antidote yesterday's game was to the nastiness of the semi final. Respect, class, sportsmanship.

Hope Trump gets the welcome he deserves.

From The Guardian:
US Secret Service staff are conducting individual body and bag searches of every fan attending the World Cup final leading to concerns that all of the 82,500 ticket holders may not get into the ground before kickoff.
Defending champions Argentina’s meeting with Spain at the New York/New Jersey Stadium has been designated as a National Special Security Event due to the attendance of US President Donald Trump, with the highest level of security measures put in place.
A US Secret Service agent told The Guardian that every fan will be searched as well as being subject to airport-style security. Thousands of US Secret Service agents are on duty with helicopters flying overhead five hours before kickoff.
“Everyone will be thoroughly searched,” one agent said. “It’s going to be an interesting day.”
A huge line of matchday operational and media staff had begun queuing to get into the stadium at 8am, with the crowd swelling to around ten thousands by the time the gates opened at 9am.
All staff were funnelled through one entrance, with just two stewards employed to scan accreditation passes before a further queue to access six airport scanners followed by the individual body searches.
Celebrities were not spared the searches with Jürgen Klopp, who is working as a pundit for German streaming service Magenta before replacing Julian Nagelsmann as Germany coach at the end of the World Cup, among those resigned to spending hours in the queue.
Most fans who have paid thousands of dollars to attend, with some tickets still being listed for sale at $34,500 yesterday, have yet to arrive but will face lengthy queues.
Trump is due to arrive on his helicopter, Marine One, in the hour before kick-off with his attendance at the final where he will present the trophy to the winning team adding complications to what was already a logistically challenging event for Fifa.
The New York/New Jersey Stadium is famously inaccessible, a problem compounded by the fact that the price of New Jersey transit trains from Manhattan have been increased to $98, which will add to traffic congestion.

Didn’t see French English match but saw highlights. Well done to England.

England well done against Pumas.

viva Espana!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/07/2026 16:16

I loved the French football strip with the white collar. Tres chic.

That was such an amazing game, utterly exceptional. Full props to France for making a great comeback but honestly everything was beautiful here, lovely to see the players interacting so respectfully at the end. So much love for this England squad and agree Jude has to be captain at some point, his sense of acting for the team is just perfect. So glad Saka got a hat-trick and that final goal from Jude was just lush.

Refreshing to see such a nice well played game, no amateur dramatics or running to the ref every 5 mins. Let’s hope Spain are similar and outplay Argies.

I didn't realise until today just how old Messi is. It's quite amazing, really.

There’s lots of talk as to whether it’s his last World Cup or not as next one he’ll be 43. Old git.

That honestly sounds like hell on earth.

We're currently in Spain.
We have paella, sangria, beer and tapas for the evening.
I have not been out today but DH says everyone he has seen is wearing their Spanish strip 🤩

Viva España! 🇪🇸 🇪🇸 🇪🇸

I’m laughing at all the praise for the French team today 🤣 a few threads ago it wasn’t quite the same!!

Maybe just believe in the team that you want to win 💪

So long as Spain scores more goals.

Agreed! Couldn’t have gone any better, especially after the England v Argentina rugby match in which Argentina showed their thuggish behaviour again.
I’m in Madrid and I just can’t wait for the final.
¡Vamos España!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/07/2026 17:55

Who here reckons Kane will play in the next World Cup? They’re already sourcing or thinking about 9s including using a false 9 upfront.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/07/2026 18:00

Saka shares his birthday with my stepdad (5th September). Why oh why did Tuchel not start him against Argentina?

IAmKerplunk · 19/07/2026 18:08

I think Kane will retire internationally after the next Euros.

Looking forward to tonights match - hoping Spain thrash them!

DuncinToffee · 19/07/2026 19:06

I tuned in to the BBC coverage, can't be doing with adverts and prefer the pundits bar Wrighty
