I’m just hoping I can sleep at 7 or 8pm tonight. If not I should get enough sleep as not starting til 1pm next day. I feel tired today for some reason.

England will certainly be playing this match to win.

Well you’d hope so wouldn’t you.

I am tempted to watch upstairs in my bedroom on tv there. Friend can either sleep next to me or go into spare bedroom. At least I know I’ll sleep. I can fill a cool box with ice packs and bottle of gin/tonic water/cans Smirnoff ice and Pimms I bought in Lidl earlier. Plus red bull. Ooh I’ve got vodka too, we can have that with red bull, old clubbing keep awake trick.

Sounds like you’ll be wrecked 🤣

Perhaps they should open the pubs all night for that too - make an event of it 😂

I used to go to the count directly after local and general elections in my city and there was always a bar open there and many drunk party supporters.

Best spectator sport in toon.

We have additional teens
So trying to find a compromise between no sleep whatsoever, a bit of atmosphere (additional are football team mates) and school at 8am (no allowances for football match)!

Youngster’s school has said you can be tired here!

So power nap before
power nap after
everyone pretending it’s camping for fun

If this thread gets full due to posts about sleeping and eating arrangements before the match starts, is it okay if I start another thread?

ETA just press agree with this post if you want me to continue. Thanks 👍

I hope not! May be drinking in sorrow if we lose of course.

Hmm, FIFA now placating hosts USA?
FIFA has upheld the red card against Balogun but instead of a mandatory one match ban, he gets a probationary period. Following rule changes that allowed Ronaldo to also miss a ban at the start of the tournament. So he gets to play in tomorrow's match against Belgium.

All the changes introduced to make soccer football fit into the US's way are highly questionable IMO. Nearly all for commercial reasons I suspect.

I've just seen clips on the news of locals letting off fireworks etc outside the England players' hotel last night. Twats.

Also reported in msm, the White House made a direct call to FIFA to ask Gianni Infantino to review Folarin Balogun’s red card.

FIFA approached for comment and referred to the findings of its independent committee.

Just five more hours to KO.

Yes it fits perfectly well with the commercial breaks that have been previously planned.

France are obviously favourites to win and they got 3 yellow cards last night.

I’m sympathetic to people questioning the ethics of FIFA and that ref.

placemats · 05/07/2026 20:28

Oh yes sympathy for anyone who gets caught up in the FIFA shenanigans.

Except Balogun. He deserved the red card and he pays for it.

OP posts:
PickfordsWaterBottle · 05/07/2026 20:29

They are discussing it on ITV now

StacyFromCroydon · 05/07/2026 20:29

So, who's asleep? 😂

PickfordsWaterBottle · 05/07/2026 20:31

No naps for me. I stayed up for the 2am Netherlands match, this one gives me an extra hour sleep.

placemats · 05/07/2026 20:33

So long as I don't lie down 😂 Don't mind falling asleep Brazil v Norway. Or should that be Arsenal v Manchester City

I do have sympathy for Balogun, he has no influence on this decision and it leaves him a a horrible situation.

placemats · 05/07/2026 20:35

He shouldn't have fouled so badly as to get a red card.

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/07/2026 20:53

I had a nap this afternoon so I'm powering through now. Probably.

bizzey · 05/07/2026 21:02

Erling Haarland smile at his little child mascot when he hugged him ...has absolutely melted my heart ❤️ ❤️

CPandme · 05/07/2026 21:05

I’m watching at least of Brazil, England is just too early/late for me.
