Why don't we play as UK in the World Cup? Why do we get 4 teams when everyone else gets just the one? It would bring an end to anyone but England sentiment.

Can you imagine the politics of trying to form Team GB/UK for the World Cup?

I'm sure at one point in 90s there was talk of Rangers and Celtic joining a UK league. One of the reasons it feel apart was the Fifa argument that the UK should compete as one nation, having separate leagues helps hold the argument of being seperate countries.

This. ^ In the vast majority of threads where an OP has their arse handed to them on a plate, and people start ribbing (and yes, maybe even being a bit arsey!) it's when the OP has posted a goady thread, or something ludicrous that is challenged by posters.

And then instead of admitting that they MAY be wrong, they start doubling down and digging their heels in and insisting they're right. 'The UK does so badly in Eurovision because people hate England' was a prime example. No matter how much people told this poster that the UK is not just England, it's 3 other countries as well, she dug her heels in and wouldn't back down. She would be one of those posters who would start a 'MN is sooo full of rotten meanies!' type thread!

Only England and Scotland qualified. We invented the game and have always played as separate countries.

Just in case it’s not, let’s go back to primary schoool…The teams in the World Cup are countries. France is a country. England is a country, Scotland is a country, Wales is a country, N. Ireland is a country. The UK is not.
