Nightmare..... lost a big contract......

I just found out that my company have lost a major contract they were bidding. It was the only job on the cards located at the site I'm based at..... so although I won't be made redundant I will have to work from Head Office indefinitely now.... and that is 1.5hrs away and will cost me £60 per week. So effectively I may as well be losing my job. Our current project ends this month.

I hate this industry and I hate working and I hate needing to work. I'm updating my CV just now, but am just so weary of hurdles I just want to scream and kick and shout.... and go home to my babies.

No real reason for this thread other than a vent.... feel free to ignore.

Why is it always so hard to get a good work life balance ?

Wot am I doing all this for eh? Need to ask myself that more often.

QF - so know the feeling.....I was a real career bode until ds came along and now, whilst I haven't turned into Earth Mother, I do wonder what it is all about more often than I ever did....

Ohh sounds more high powered than me - but can see the problem re contracts.....
But seriously, have no idea what the answer is, but when I've just crawled home making it a 12 hour day (including the travel - 3 hours in total...) I really do think WHY and I want to stay at home... (I don't, but it just seems preferable...)

Oh God QF, sorry to hear about all this - just what you need eh! will you still be able to apply for the midwifery???

Sax - I won't be able to apply until I've paid off some debt..... I will find it very hard to find a job close to home that pays the same money.

what about bank auxillary nursing - not good money but flexible hours and if you went to maternity you may enjoy it too??? But, maybe you need more money rather than job satisfaction?

Sax - At the moment it's money that is the dominant factor unfortunately. I need to earn around £12 per hour..... so if anyone can help?!?!?!? >slightly desperate emoticon

Aah Tooty just saw this - what a sh*tter! I am sure you know where to look for jobs in the same field. Is there no way you could look at starting Uni this September? Sell you house even - obviously because I have done that I feel the need to recommend it as a sensible (yeah right) course of action to all.

How are things with you parents? Has your mum managed to move things forward yet?

My Mum has had her letter saying they accept she is homeless and should have a house for her by September.

I've just emailed my CV to an Agency I've been employed through before. Fingers crossed.

.... ooops forgot to say that Entrants for Midwifery this September have already been accepted and there is a waiting list for any who drop out.

Yip we have sold again - 3rd time lucky (don't ask too boring) so planning to move end July, although won't get cash for this place until September which is making things tricky to say the least..

September, jesus. Has she spoken with the homeless officer or is that from a housing officer?

That was just a letter that came from the council to my house. She's just avoiding my Dad most of the time now.

I haven't applied for next year yet. I phoned in May and there were not accepting applications then. Will try again now.

She should contact the homeless officer- they are are independant and should be able to bring pressure onthe housing officers.

Get applying missus....

Wow, thats brilliant QF - are these going to be feasible ie. closer to home and hours you want!? Excellent news though!

Sax - They will be in Glasgow City Centre which is only about 20mins by train. However, I'm assuming they are fulltime posts.... but it's a big jump in cash so hopefully that would balance out the childcare. I always planned to go back to work fulltime when dd was a year old (she's 11mths at the mo), but with my current job I couldn't IMAGINE 5 days a week!!! So we;ll see if I even get an interview... fingers crossed!
