The Cleaner in work is pouring full fat milk into the low fat milk.

I work in an office of a factory. We get 8 litres of full fat milk a day delivered . I asked around to see if I changed 1 of the bottles to low fat milk if anyone one would mind. They all said ok so I was given permission by the accountant to change it. The cleaner seen the low fat milk in the fridge and freaked out . interrogating everyone to find out who changed. she demanded I change it back even though i don't answer to her. She is feer mongering anyone who drinks saying ' I can't believe your drinking' 'that's the last bottle of that you will see' . Hiding in the back of the fridge and refuses to put it inth same section as the other milk.. But the worst of it happened this morning when i realised she poured over half a litre of full fat milk into the carton of low fat milk. What the hell do i do in this situation because i know if i go to management they will laugh at its ridiculousness and wont take it seriously. I don't like confrontation so i dont know how to best approach.

I suspect that for the cleaner, it's yet one more thing that she needs to remember to do, maybe it wasn't in the job description, and noone asked/told her about it. Maybe she has reached her limit and is passive-aggressively rebelling.

It’s a shame that “full fat” milk is branded as such. It’s actually very low in fat and is better for you.

skimmed and “low” fat are such a con.

It’s not branded in the UK as Full Fat. It’s known as Whole Milk. There are calorific and fat gram differences between whole, semi skimmed, and skimmed milk, and then you have the different milks such as Channel Island. They all taste slightly different as well.

Milk - THE NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION OF DAIRY PRODUCTS

Getitwright · 17/10/2024 12:59

Someone just needs to politely ask the cleaner why the single bottle of different milk is getting moved, and if there is clear proof she is mixing the milk, she needs to be told not to do it. Whoever tells her, needs to make a diary note, when and what was said, then if it happens again, consult line superior, and let them deal with it.

Grammarnut · 17/10/2024 12:59

Full-fat milk is better for you. It is not possible, for example, for children to process the vitamin D contained in low-fat milk, so they should not be given it below the age of 6. Take your own milk to work if you are dieting etc and label it - presumably cleaner does not touch personal food stuffs? If she does, then complain. Personally, I think the dairies selling skimmed milk are CF - there is virtually no nutritional value in it at all, it's white-coloured water and tastes like water, too.

Nasyan · 17/10/2024 13:00

I drink full fat milk which I thought was rare. Usually I just have to use semi skimmed at work. It’s what most people use

Remember to do what?

Remember to leave it alone, is all.

I know it sounds mad and trivial but tampering with food and drink intended for employees' consumption is a very serious matter and this needs to be escalated to senior management, with HR involvement. There are medical conditions which can be badly exacerbated by exceeding certain levels of fat.

I know this probably sounds like an overreaction but in a previous workplace of mine there was a targeted case of poisoning which ended up with criminal charges. It began seemingly innocuously with swapping of items like milk and escalated dramatically. There are some very unwell people who are capable of doing very dangerous things, even in the most everyday of workplaces.

I think she's re filled it to try and prove a point . That's nobody will drink it . Even though multiple people were drinking it.

You need to report this via email (so there’s a paper trail) as it is very serious. People like this tend to escalate. If your managers don’t take it seriously and she later poisons one of you it’s on them.

Drfosters · 17/10/2024 13:03

Bring your own and label it as your own. She wouldn’t be allowed to touch it. See what happens .

I find it amazing bizarre stuff like this happens in real life!

Has she read somewhere that if you are going to drink cow’s milk at all, then full-fat is better than ‘messed- about with’ skimmed and semi-skimmed, and is being a bit over zealous? I know I have, but can’t remember why, now. (No, I’m not the cleaner!)

If she has read that full-fat is better for you than skimmed milk, she is correct. You might as well drink water as skimmed milk - and children should never be given it (or semi-skimmed) below the age of six as they cannot process vitamin D from it (lack of vitamin D causes rickets).

It might be better for you but I cannot stand the taste of it. Semi/skimmed or skimmed for me. You can taste the difference.

Judging by the comments on this thread everyone is calling it “full fat” not “whole milk” so it has been stuck with that branding. Of course they taste different. The others are not giving any nutritional benefits and milk in itself is still a low fat product.

People that drink semi or skimmed milk do also eat far more fatty things yet think they’re being healthy with their choice of milk, so wrong .

WooleyMunky · 17/10/2024 13:11

Low-fat milk comes from cows that are body-shamed into being unrealistically thin. By the patriarchy, obviously.

DecafDodger · 17/10/2024 13:11

But it really doesn't matter if full milk is healthier. Woudl it be OK for her to go through lunchboxes and discard food she considers unhealthy? Company has agreed to buy 2 different types of milk and it's none of her business who uses which one.

Getitwright · 17/10/2024 13:12

People drink different milks for all sorts of reasons. We prefer semi skimmed, but when my OH was having chemo, he was told to drink whole milk, and fortified with milk powder.
Your generalisation about people who drink semi skimmed eating far more fatty foods is just that, your opinion🤷‍♀️
Supermarkets sell “Whole Milk”. It’s the weight obsessed that tend to call if Full Fat. Which isn’t wrong, but isn’t branding.

That's fine, you can. In fact, I no longer like milk. The processes of pasteurising have been changed (cheaper) and milk no longer tastes any good. I put it in tea and coffee, but prefer yoghurt on cereal these days.

Sooverwork · 17/10/2024 13:12

Document and report it. No one should be messing about with food. She sounds like a piece of work.

Demonhunter · 17/10/2024 13:13

This is so weird. Does she have shares in full fat milk? I don't blame you for not wanting to confront her, she sounds utterly barmy!

When I was in the office, I used to take my dairy alternative in a flask and it was fine. You should just do that.

holiverterwist · 17/10/2024 13:13

Use food colouring to dye it blue. It will freak her out if nothing else.

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 17/10/2024 13:14

It can’t just be me who likes green milk. I see blue milk fairly frequently at work but never red.

kitsuneghost · 17/10/2024 13:14

There is very minimal difference in carbs. Really only fat and vitamin A
skimmed is higher in vitamin A due to the addition of vitamin A and D
whole has 4.7g CHO per 100ml
skimmed has 5g CHO per 100ml

diddl · 17/10/2024 13:16

How does it affect her?

Is there now not enough full fat for her to have for her drinks/cereal whatever?

If she doesn't want it that's fair enough.

Why does she care if others do?

Bring in your own milk and avoid her (and the fridge) like the plague.

Imagine having the time to waste on pointless bollocks like this. If I wasn't happy with full fat I'd just bring my own and forget about it
