I work in an office of a factory. We get 8 litres of full fat milk a day delivered . I asked around to see if I changed 1 of the bottles to low fat milk if anyone one would mind. They all said ok so I was given permission by the accountant to change it. The cleaner seen the low fat milk in the fridge and freaked out . interrogating everyone to find out who changed. she demanded I change it back even though i don't answer to her. She is feer mongering anyone who drinks saying ' I can't believe your drinking' 'that's the last bottle of that you will see' . Hiding in the back of the fridge and refuses to put it inth same section as the other milk.. But the worst of it happened this morning when i realised she poured over half a litre of full fat milk into the carton of low fat milk. What the hell do i do in this situation because i know if i go to management they will laugh at its ridiculousness and wont take it seriously. I don't like confrontation so i dont know how to best approach.

I bought full cream Jersey milk for my 3 kids. They got through 5 pints a day when it was pints, sometimes 7. They were never fat, never had difficulties with weight and were fit and well.

They were very active kids.

This was my entire point. Semi-skimmed and skimmed milk are pretty pointless from a nutritional point of view. Your children will have healthy bones and teach - good on you for doing that for them.

Scandicc · 19/10/2024 17:40

No wonder people start wars around the world when we have people who police other individuals milk-consumption with great emotion among us…

JediNinja · 19/10/2024 17:42

Same, I cannot believe that so many people say it is a non-issue. It is not always about reducing kcal.

The only semi skimmed milk I buy now is the powdered milk for emergencies. Tesco's own is the best.

I think you need to mention her behaviour to Management. I'm on a very low fat diet and this would make me seriously ill. She's also contaminating the milk and harassing employees (the latter should definitely be taken seriously).

There is no sodding difference for health between skimmed milk and whole milk.

Skimmed milk just has less fat.
Milk, whole or skimmed does not make you fat.

Why have we seemed to suddenly gone from fat is bad to I must eat the highest fat version of EVERYTHING.
Low fat only becomes unhealthy if stabilisers and gums are added
Which in this case they are not.

Milk fat allergy?? Do you mean milk protein allergy? I've never e countered milk fat allergy.

Also, the difference between semi-skimmed and full fat is less than 2%. It's not worth making such a fuss about.

Milk fat allergy is a real food allergy that is triggered by an allergic response to the protein found in milk.

Same thing

extramile · 21/10/2024 11:14

Wow - this behaviour is crazy! What would she do if someone had a dairy allergy and needed a bottle of non-dairy milk? Mixing bottles in that scenario could be life-threatening. It might seem trivial but management needs to address this.

Hereforaglance · 21/10/2024 11:15

No point crying over spilt milk bring your own lol

Sueqa · 21/10/2024 11:17

I don't think management will think it's ridiculous on your part. Hopefully, they will see how utterly bonkers the cleaner is being! It's perfectly reasonable to want to use low fat milk and you went through all the correct channels. If the cleaner is that entitled, who knows what else she's up to!

Welshmonster · 21/10/2024 11:34

If you have evidence of her doing this then please mention to management as food tampering is bad. The dates and how long the milk has been open could mean it goes off sooner than the date on it. If more people are using the lower fat milk then ask the people if they want more of it.

who is her line manager? Can she be moved to a different section to
clean?

Scandie · 21/10/2024 12:00

With respect and with all the problems you could have picked and the world generally in a messy state: Get a life?

I mean, that could send her over the edge. Or the hedge.

This type of batshit situation definitely requires tomfoolery, though.

Or over the moon?

Emmz1510 · 21/10/2024 12:46

It’s neither here nor there why some prefer full, some prefer low fat, or what her particular views are about low fat. The fact is it’s been agreed that one of the bottles can be low fat and that should be good enough for her. Report her to her supervisor because she is also most definitely breaking health and safety regulations. It’s true that there might be health or medical reasons why a person can’t drink full fat. Even if it’s just that you are watching your weight, she’s trying to sabotage that which makes it a form of bullying. Report and don’t worry about it seeming silly.

‘Catering/cleaning manager, I’ve become aware that Mary Smith has tampered with a bottle of low fat milk by pouring full fat milk into it. I’m unclear on her reasons, but I’m certain that food and drink should not be tampered with in this manner for health and safety reasons eg allergies or other health issues necessitating the use of only low or no fat milk. Could you please discuss with Ms Smith’.

TicklishMintDuck · 21/10/2024 12:56

I think she’s crazy. If you want to avoid confrontation and stress, I’d just take your own milk.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 21/10/2024 13:09

If I was management I would take a dim view of this. Some people cannot drink full fat milk, and not only due to preference.

PacificAtlantic · 21/10/2024 13:21

That’s a good safety issue and as the providers of the milk your employers would be liable. They need to know and it needs to be stopped. You are not over reacting

She's clearly insane but I disagree that bringing in your own milk is the solution.

You aren't the right person to tackle her about it because you are the person who wants low fat milk.

Someone relatively junior (not a manager) needs to be given the task of talking to her and finding out what her problem is and why she's so upset about there being a bottle of low fat milk in the fridge. Ideally someone who chooses the high fat milk for themselves so isn't on the "wrong side" as far as the slightly-batshit cleaner is concerned.

This!

I agree. I cannot drink full fat milk, or add it to tea or coffee. It's something to do with the cream, I think, because although I will happily eat yogurt of all kinds, I cannot bear cream. The smell of it turns my stomach.

For those who say to bring your own - why? If milk is being provided for the office then she is as entitled to have it as anyone else.

Greenangeleyes · 21/10/2024 18:57

She is an idiot and a bully. I’d have a word with management but if you are sure they are going to laugh, then just bring in your own milk.

Nikki8762 · 21/10/2024 19:08

I wouldn't be trusting anything there anymore, God knows what else she does. I'd be taking my own milk from now on. You could just report that someone is messing with the milk, and its making you ill... or put a sign up asking who ever is doing it to stop. If you still see her doing it, it needs reporting, it's not her place and she shouldn't be doing it. If it's because she's wanting to take it home that's theft and your milk won't make any odds to that.

What is wrong with people honestly. Why csnt they just leave stuff alone 😔

StripeyDeckchair · 21/10/2024 19:20

Talk to her supervisor and tell her what you've seen & ask her to address it with yhe cleaner.

SeenYourArse · 21/10/2024 19:46

Am I also point out to all those saying “high fat milk” and “full fat milk” that whole milk is still only 2% fat 😂
Not that is has anything at all to do with the nutso cleaner who needs to wind her neck in and stay in her slow lane!

The pouring of full fat milk into another container - is a a health and safety issue. Please report it as such - the milk comes in labelled containers - tampering and pouring can cause contamination. Perhaps if management approach it this way and giver her a “gentle” warning - reminding her that she could be held accountable for causing harm and lose her job - maybe she will see sense. It’s always difficult to deal with someone who has worked there decades and is resistant to change. Also If someone was storing their lacto free milk in the fridge - she has no business touching it!
