What do you do? I'm getting jaded working in the NHS and know I have many skills that I could use elsewhere...

Metallurgist (PhD) - (when I earned around £50-70k) now head of Engineering. Seen plenty of £50k project roles in a variety of industries though x

The issue with lots of these jobs is that you can't transfer skills as you need professional qualifications. Would you retrain? I did at 36 and have never looked back. I earn considerably more than 50k, but sat many exams to get here. Barriers to entry put up your value.

I swear I've only seen c suite as a recent term.... And lots of EA on LinkedIn doing the job remote for a number of clients.

Yes I think your probably right last couple of years. Are the ‘chief’ titles as recent (other than CEO) - I’m not sure, I’ve changed industries and they were not a thing in my previous industries. Head of HR, remanded as Chief People Officer for example?

ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess · 20/08/2024 21:17

Wow! Loads of replies already! I’ll have a read through. I’m not a nurse btw!

NHS 3 days b8 in inner london (35-40k pro rata salary for the 3 days
Equivalent 1 day private work per week remote (pays significantly more)

My current take home is roughly 70k for the 4 days, I probably could fit a bit more in my 1 day private and I take the other day off for myself / childcare (I have young children)

AlleycatMarie · 20/08/2024 21:18

@ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess I work for the nhs and am on over 50k, so it is possible! Do you want to progress in your career or are you looking for something else?

LBOCS2 · 20/08/2024 21:19

Director in specialist property services.

There's a bit of a recruitment crisis in our sector (not surprisingly, for various industry related reasons) so anyone with 5 years plus experience could pull in £50k. It's very London centric though.

Telecoms, quite niche but PMs do well

ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess · 20/08/2024 21:33

I'm on over £50k but have gone as high as I want to go in the NHS. I'm thinking of doing something else but I'm just into my 50's so think I may have left it too late. I have a quality management background too and would probably relish an auditor role, or something like that. Oh, also do a lot of training but not so keen on that side!

Maybe I'm having a mid-life crisis! I know we have good job security but some of my friends seem to get a lot more for doing a lot less!
