Suspended from work!

Maybe W & R can help me here. I am a manager and went back to work today after Xmas break and was taken straight up to the conference room where a string of allegations were made against me and I have been suspended on full pay. The allegations range from the ridiculous (i.e we only play my choice of music in the office, when I'm in a bad mood the office suffers etc. etc.) to the serious (i.e I have touched this male member of staff on the back of the neck. We are a tactile office and there are others far more tactile than I).

I am devestated and in utter shock. I am not able to talk to anyone from work except my director, and yet this guy remains at work and could be saying goodness know what. I've been there 2 years and he has been there 6 months and has already been moved from one dept as he wasn't up to scrathc and I agreed to have him in my office! This is the thanks I get.

What is my position?

BeckiF, just to say that I'm thinking of you and you have got so many people wishing you well that I'm sure you will do great. The people you worked with sound like a bunch of t*ssers so I hope you can manage to make them feel as uncomfortable as possible. All the very best.

Nome · 19/01/2005 09:39

Last minute good vibes coming your way. Don't let them grind you down.

Twiglett · 19/01/2005 09:40

Any news yet?

littlemissbossy · 19/01/2005 13:35

Does no news = goods news? xx

BeckiF · 19/01/2005 14:17

Hi Ladies! Have been given a final written warning (not sure if they can go striaght to this) and have been asked to re-start work in the morning! Definitely had them on the back foot on some of the issues, and used Sis's advice on questioning and not being hurried to the max, hence it taking 3.5hrs to get through the meeting! Quite dubious about going back, but there you go! They even wanted me to re-start immediately AFTER the meeting!

gosh that's odd isn't it becki? have they given you any guidance as to how to handle things after all this business?

galaxy · 19/01/2005 14:23

Good for you. Do you still have to manage the lying tosser that started all this?

mears · 19/01/2005 14:31

You can be given a final written warning BeckiF. However, if management believes that you warrant that, then they should be assisting you by offering support and training. How are you supposed to go back to work as if nothing has happened? Seems a strange situation.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 19/01/2005 14:32

Whaaaat?? Very strange and fishy.

SenoraPostrophe · 19/01/2005 14:34

well done, Becki!

I think the first few days will be odd, but I would be quite surprised if he didn't leave fairly soon. If it's still uncomfortable after a few days, maybe think about asking to move to another dept or calling a meeting to clear the air or something.

Marina · 19/01/2005 14:35

Well done, but agree with the others here that you should pursue what happens now immediately on your return. Hope he doesn't make your life miserable Becki.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 19/01/2005 14:37

Becki, I'm glad it went well but what have you been given the final written warning for? Have they said what you will be measured on in the next few months and what 'improvement' will constitute the matter being dropped? Well done on not letting them hurry you, an hour indeed!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 19/01/2005 14:38

Well done Becki for getting through that meeting - it must have been incredibly stressful!

GRMUM · 19/01/2005 15:01

Well done, bet you're feeling proud of yourself! Don't know anything about employment law but did think that a final warning had to come after several written warnings? I'm sure sis and feckle will advise you well later!

MiriamR · 19/01/2005 15:25

GRMum - yes it can go straight to final written warning.

BeckIf - glad its been sorted, although in one way, it still isn't. Have you been given any advice on how to handle things upon your return, especially since you are a manager and presumably have some responsibility for some of the staff who gave statements and had to get involved, either willingly or not. Think its going to be a bit strange for you and everyone else at first and it may be a good idea to get advice from your line manager etc to cover yourself, so if for example, you line manage the male member of staff, is this going to continue and if for example you're expected to have 1 to 1 meetings with him, will someone else be there under the circumstances. Best Wishes

runtus · 19/01/2005 15:48

Hi Becki - good news of a sort then I suppose? Relieved you haven't ben fired unfairly but now you are left hanging a bit.......do you want to go back after all that has happened? Do you trust them not to stitch you up again and use the final written warning as a way to get you out the door?

Maybe you would be best to start job hunting on the quiet(in case somethig does happen or you are not happy working there under these circumstances). Not the ideal solution I know but something to ponder if you are not going to take it any further........bear in mind though that they may well note the warning on any reference they give you.
