Suspended from work!

Maybe W & R can help me here. I am a manager and went back to work today after Xmas break and was taken straight up to the conference room where a string of allegations were made against me and I have been suspended on full pay. The allegations range from the ridiculous (i.e we only play my choice of music in the office, when I'm in a bad mood the office suffers etc. etc.) to the serious (i.e I have touched this male member of staff on the back of the neck. We are a tactile office and there are others far more tactile than I).

I am devestated and in utter shock. I am not able to talk to anyone from work except my director, and yet this guy remains at work and could be saying goodness know what. I've been there 2 years and he has been there 6 months and has already been moved from one dept as he wasn't up to scrathc and I agreed to have him in my office! This is the thanks I get.

What is my position?

And if they say you cannot call them to speak, ask WHY.

Metrobaby · 18/01/2005 13:10

Thinking of you tomorrow BeckiF. I agree with the others that you shouldn't be afraid of calling your other colleagues up about their statements. They should be prepared to stand by what they say.

Write down what points you want to bring up, and questions you want to ask. This way, you'll make sure you'll stay on track with what you want to achieve. Finally, go in and be as confident as you possibly can, (even though you might not feel it as the time), and tell yourself that you can do it and that you have done nothing wrong. I think Tigermoth's approach of being detatched from it all would be a good way to handle it.

Becki, I just checked my 'member orofile' and realised that the mumsnet team only have my home e-mail address so I should have the message when I get home and will be able to call you this evening.

aloha · 18/01/2005 13:50

Becki, great advice here. Please do take it. And good luck for tomorrow - just think of us all here, rooting for you!

Marina · 18/01/2005 13:53

Like the idea of an orofile sis, cross between a profile and the oracle of brilliant advice you give out perhaps
Good luck for tomorrow Becki, we're all willing you on and there in spirit if not in person.

BeckiF · 18/01/2005 17:08

I have had a mail fom the MD stating that the meeting should only take about an hour ..... how does he know how long it will take UNLESS they have already come to a descision which in itself is unfair.

Good luck Becki - Definitely call your back-stabbing colleagues in! How dare they lie! You should be angry, not intimidated! Hope you can do that detachment thing, I'm sure you will because the whole situation sounds surreal. Be cool and thorough. x

Tanzie · 18/01/2005 19:37

Well, you seemed pretty together to me (even though I know that inside you must be all knotted up and nervous). I'll be sending those positive vibes your way - good luck!

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 18/01/2005 21:43

Good luck Becki. It is interesting that they 'know' it'll only take an hour, you're quite right, sounds as if they have forgone conclusions. We'll be thinking of you.

Tanzie · 18/01/2005 22:33

Only an hour???? My friend's took four hours! What planet are they on? Planet Foregone Conclusion? Would really recommend you take some notes if you can a) you will be able to look back afterwards on what was said and b) it will give you some breathing space.

BeckiF · 18/01/2005 22:34

Ladies - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me positive vibes at 10am tomorrow and for a long as you can!! Will post as soon as I get home and let you know what happens. Just did a read through of my statement and it took about 20mins. Quite a long time but I've got lots to say!
