McDonald's for a job interview - no show

*So my 18 year old DS found a job vacancy on 'McDonald's Careers' website and applied for a role at a local McDs restaurant last week After filling in the online form and answering a ton of questions the AI bot thing said they wanted him to come in for an interview and gave 3 options; he opted for one today at 130pm. So off he went today and got to the place and went up the counter, and said he was here for an interview. Staff who answered said there was no appointment in the diary. He then asked to speak to the manager; no manager was available. He was asked to scribble his mobile number on a tissue and they said someone would get back to him.

That was it! He had to turn around and go home! This was extremely annoying as he had prepped for the interview, paid the train fare to get there and it was all a complete waste of time.

Does anyone have any experience of this happening to them or to a YP in their life? I seriously doubt if anyone will call him back from the sounds of it. Just so disheartening for him as he is shy and really went out of his comfort zone to go to the interview. I feel angry on his behalf and feel like posting something on SM to name and shame the branch of McDs. But my DS does not wish me to do that so I will hold back but just wondered if anyone has any advice on how to get to the bottom of what has happened here.

All the exchanges were done via the mchire.comom_ website and he has loads of emails from them confirming the interview, one even an hour before ;)

He should just pop back another day and try and sort it out.

GoldenHorse · 03/06/2024 18:01

Can he email head office and explain what happened, say he is really keen for an interview but has lost confidence in the system they have set up so please can they reassure a further interview has been confirmed?

dinnermoneyready · 03/06/2024 18:07

Looks like that’s a US McDonald’s site - do you live somewhere where’s there’s a place in the USA with the same name? Looks like this is the uk one https://people.mcdonalds.co.uk/
Hope he finds something soon!

Restaurant jobs, head office jobs and early careers at McDonald's. Let's be part of something together.

Thanks for commenting. It was definitely the McDonald's Careers website where the job was advertised and it was definitely a location in Uk near to London.

It wasn't a mix up with 2 places of the same name or something daft? There are loads of Newports, or Farnham vs Farnborough...?

And pay a second train fare without knowing if he will even get an interview? How far should we all be willing to bend over for prospective employers?

If his application and the interview appointment hadn't reached the branch or hadn't been recorded in the diary the first time he went there, what are the chances that they will have been if he goes a second time?

LetticeSlay · 03/06/2024 19:34

The exact same thing happened to my dd. It wasn't in the diary and there was nobody she could talk to. It was her first ever job interview and she didn't know what to do or say.

Showmethebagels · 03/06/2024 19:34

Something similar happened to my DD when she was 16 and still at school, she applied for a job at a new Starbucks near us, as it wasn’t opened yet she had to get train to nearest city and go to a different Starbucks for the interview. When she got there they gave her loads of paperwork to complete despite the fact she’d entered all her details online. They told her to sit in the cafe and fill it in. She waited and waited and when she eventually went to enquire they said the interviews were over and they’d forgotten about her! And that was it. She didn’t even get a coffee! Got a job elsewhere.

Not Wimbledon ND?

wheresthebigcarrot · 03/06/2024 19:42

I've just used that link OP and it has taken me to a US site as a PP said. Wimbledon SW19 isn't an option but Wimbledon North Dakota is, again as a PP said.

Fullofpudding · 03/06/2024 19:45

This is definitely not the correct website.

I've just followed the link and been able to select Wimbledon in London.

Fullofpudding · 03/06/2024 19:46

This is the site my DS used. Interviews are usually done via zoom/teams in the first instance and then you're called into branch for a trial session.

Yes It's so upsetting for them! Hope your dad was ok

Was the interview definitely at the restaurant? Both my DSs have done stints at MCDs and they've been excellent employers, actually, but the interviews were at an office away from the restaurant.

Wow that's shocking. I think they seem to exploit these young people 😔. Funnily enough my ds after his failed interview ended up going to get food at KFC 😂

Hello. My son works at McDonalds. He really likes it - nice bunch of people and pretty easy money while he’s studying. But their recruitment process was a nightmare. DS persisted and got there in the end but it took a good while and was very frustrating. He’s glad he did though.
