I am going back to work part-time i need part-time work with flexible hours, have been accepted for a job doing home care which i am happy about but am also keeping my options open, have also applied to be a courier for Next!

What part-time job do you do & what hours? does it work around your children?

I work at IKEA 3 nights a wee, 8.30pm until 12.30am - fits in with the DCs in that they're going to bed as I leave DD will be starting reception in September, and I will then be looking for the mythical p/time term time only job to supplement my IKEA wages. I'm hoping to find a data entry/virtual office type thing that I can do from home, but don't hold out much hope.

Serenity they are good hours my problem is dp 's job is so unrealiable so sometimes he can be home at 7pm sometimes not till 10pm grrr

I am a TA in the school my boys attend. I work 8.30am until 12 5 days a week, plus one afternoon. It gives me a couple of hours to myself 4 afternoons a week. I LOVE IT.

I work PT and have one DD, age 5y, in Y1 at school.

I am an IAG (info, advice and guidance)worker within prison education.

I work 17.5 hours a week, over 3 days (Tue-Thu). I start at 8:25am each morning; on a Tuesday I finish at 3:55pm; on a Wed/Thur I finish at 2:10pm. I have 20 min for lunch each day so that I can do finish early.

DD goes into after school club on a Tuesday, but I get back (have just over 1 hour commute each way) for the other days.

Dh takes DD to school in a morning.

I get 30 days holiday a year (inc bank holidays) - so about 12 weeks, which is fab for covering most of school holidays. DD has 16 weeks holiday - I cover the rest with help from grandparents and friends.

I work Tues-Thurs 8-4.30 in computer support. No it does not fit in with my children. DD goes to day nursery 3 days a week and DS has a before/after school childminder on those days. It means I can do school pick up and drop off two days a week and have two full days to spend with DD.

I work 20 hours over 4 days, 8am-1pm (3 days) and 9.15am-2.15pm (1 day).
My mum comes to my house on the 3 days and takes ds1 to school and looks after ds2.
On the other day I drop ds1 at school, meet the childminder there and hand over ds2, then do the reverse at the end of the school day.

I work mostly from home in IT.
I run reports in SAP, do spreadsheets and chase people via the phone...if they are naughty they get a visit in person where I shout at them.
No one ever wants a visit in person from me (sob!)
4 days a week. In the office 1 day a week, soemtimes more.

Have just negotiated to go to school hours when DD goes to school.

This lovely arrangment is due to my boss being useless at: SAP, spreadsheets and running reports and shouting at people...he can't bear to lose me.
ALways make yourself indispensible to the boss. Previous boss was addicted to chocolate brownies...!

Mine also means that I have had zero time to myself other than evenings/weekends when DH is around for the last 7 years. DD is nearly 4 so could actually be in school nursery mornings but I thought this way was fairer than giving her more time at nursery/childcare.

You see i am strapped, i have ds who goes to full-time school till 3.10pm so no problem but i have dd who is only 2.2!

I am looking at doing -

9-1pm - Tues/wed - Dd will be in private nursery.

Thursday 9-2pm - my mum will have dd.

Sun evening - 4-9.30pm kids with dp.

Every other saturday 7-11am - dp will have kids.

Not sure if it will work though.

That sounds fab miggsie. Unfortunately in my current job situation I am never sure who my manager is. Might all change in July when I get transferred to another company.

what about a childminder for dd? My ds2 is a similar age, and his cm does a lot of part-time kids.

I want to work in a Bank or Travel agents though but i could only do mon-thurs 9-1pm & saturdays could not do fridays so i think it's out of the question, i am just grabbing what i can!

Have thought about a childminder but i think i prefer dd to be in a nursery, she loves being around loads of kids & i visited one the other day she ran in, throw her coat at me & did not look for me once, she just got stuck straight into the sandpit, water, toys she loved it.

The fees not to bad as i am going to do the childcare vouchers & my mym said she will pay for a day & my sister said she will pay for a day too (which would be a mon) so i would only be paying for 1 day.

ah, only mentioned it because if you only want part of a day a cm can be cheaper as with namy nurseries you pay for the whole day.

Oh no the nursery is fine with part-time, it's so hard deciding what to do, do i take a job because it is flexible & fits with my family but not something i really want to do & put up with it until next year when dd is 3 & gets 2 1/2 hours free nursery times a day or do i find something i want to do & try & work round sorting childcare? hoo hum.

i work P/T 9 - 2 Mon to Fri and i have cm.

I am a supervisor in a call centre. I work Mon, Tues and Wed from 8:45 - 16:30pm.

It fits in with nursery hours, though ideally I wouldn't leave him in nursery for such a long day. (he's 21 months). I have been asked to stay late once a month but said I couldn't manage it (they wanted me to stay till 6pm and that's when nursery closes - have no support nearby so no-one else but me can do the nursery run).

I work in the same bank I started my proper full time employment in when I was 18, after dd1 I went back 2 days (Monday and Fridays) and every other Saturday morning (9-1), after dd2 I went back but in admin role for Area Manager still get paid same hours but actually only work Monday and Fridays now (boss says if I can do all teh work in 2 days shes happy for me not to do Saturdays) do have work laptop so if I have childcare issues (my Mum has dd's on Mondays and MIL on fridays) then I can work from home.

Though about leaving but am on v.good pay, BUPA, paid pension and good bonus scheme so seems silly, plus boss is happy to swap my hours to 9.30 to 2 three days a week when dd1 starts school if I want to (will probably stick at 2 full days till dd2 at school as Mum can take/pick up on Mondays and best mate will pick up on fridays and drop to MIL for me)

I agree I am very lucky in my work arrangements...although I used to work 12 hour days 5 days a week and log in from home at the weekends so I persuaded them they owed me one!
A good boss is the key, if you find one, attach like a limpet (though not in an improper sense of course).

I would like to work in a bank you see butwould just like to start out being a cashier, do you think i would be able to do mon-thurs or tues-fri - 9-1pm? & saturday?

I also phoned Thomson travel agents as they were advertising for a part-time flexi vacancy but when i phoned they said they have changed there part-time jobs now to flexi which means ever day is different & if they need you full-time you have to be able to do, i think the rule is crap because means any parents with young children could not do it as you would need to know your ours for nursery/cm etc

Really wanted that job too!

I work as an accountant Monday Wednesday and Thursday between 8am and 4pm (getting up at horribly early hour to commute into London by 8). DH takes DS and DD to the c/ms and I pick them up at 5:30pm.

I work 5 mornings 8.30-12.30 and DS goes to a private day nursery. After Easter I am changing my hours to 9.30-1.30 and changing DS' nursery session, and will continue these hours once he starts school.

In the holidays we will manage (I hope) with a combination of taking holiday, friends & family helping out, and holiday club for some of the time.

I work in an Admin job which I am overqualified for but I couldn;t find a p/t job doing my old job iyswim.
