will an enhanced crb check show up domestic violence? please help

im going to be applying for a job in a school and i have no criminal record or convictions or anything at all.

a few years ago, my partner and i had some problems and argued a bit and my next door neighbour called the police and someone from domestic violance rang me and said that my name and number was going to be on their domestic violence files and if i rang them they would know who i was and come over to check things were ok. i told them that things were fine and it was just an argument and they rang a few weeks later to check and i said things were fine and i havent heard from them since.

im just worried because i need to get an enhanced crb check when i go for the job and im worried incase it comes up about domestic violence on it and me being a victim in the past.a relative of mine works at the school and will see the results of the check.

anyone got any experience or knowledge of this? i would have thought it would only be offenders that it would show up on?

thanks for any help, their website doesnt really explain anything and the helplines are shut!

I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem right that you would be penalised for having been a victim of domestic violence.
It sounds as though the person who rang you was keeping an eye on you in case you needed help in the future.
I would doubt something so sensitive, and so uncriminal, would show up on a check. But I can't tell you for certain.
I expect you could explain it to the people offering you the job, if it did come up?

I think it might only be if you were cautioned or charged with anything, but I am not 100% sure.

This wont show on your enhanced CRB. You were a victim- Enhanced Crbs are quite specific in the info that they provide.

Police records of convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings

Conviction details

Information held on section 142 of the Education act 2002

protection of children act list info

protection of vulnerable adults list

other relevant info disclosed at the chief police officers discretion ( this is where any other info goes- The chief police officer is HIGHLY unlikely to record this here for disclosure.)

Really dont worry- unless YOU yourself recieved a warning or reprimand in the incident then it wont be disclosed.

thanks, ive just been reading another thread and that sayssomething about convictions of people living at my address.

my partner has had fighting convictions years ago and was inside for 18 months for gbh.would that show up on my crb?

im just trying to cover every angle as my aunt is the one seing the crb if i go for the job there!

No- the CRB is about you, not your partner.

I have had countless Enhanced CRB's and my DP has a conviction for ABH ( twat, pub fight 12 years ago)- his record has never shown on my info.

thanks, just read your message.i havent done anything wrong or ever received a caution etc.

my partner has had a dodgy past but has had no problems for years now.im hoping his details wont show on my crb.i cant see why they would inform the school of his fighting convictions when he wont be working there though.

i just want to be prepared!! ym family dont know of his past and i dont want them to.his anger problems were sorted a long time ago and we are a happy family now and i dont want it all brought up.

Really, stop worrying about it. His details will not show on your enhanced CRB, and if you yourself have had no cautions, reprimands, warnings or convictions then under each section on the CRB form it will just state ' NONE RECORDED'.

All my CRbs came to me and I had to give them to my uni and employer, so you will see yourself what it states before you hand it in.

stop worrying about it, your partners past wont show on there and the police will not have recorded the DV thing for CRB needs

thanks.its a job ive wanted to do for a long time and im now finally getting the courage to try to have a change of career.

what is the vulnerable persons bit about?

Say if you worked in a care home or other place where you had to look after 'vulnerable' people ie mentally ill, learning disabilities, old people etc and had been suspended or dismissed for any reason ( namely abuse etc). Then you would be put on the POVA register and not able to work with these clients for any company in the future.

I have been reported to Social Services by the police before (for living in a DV situation) and I have JUST had an enhanced crb check for children come through clear.

So definatly don't worry.

thanks so much.there is no dv situation now, things have been fine for a long time and dp hasnt even been in terouble for fighting since we got together 8 years ago!

it only cuz my aunt will see the results that i was worried.

i'll relax a bit now and get back to sorting my house out! toys everywhere as we are going through them to finally get rid of some. we've got loads of boxes of them but none are in sets so that they can actually play with them!

Sorry to defer a bit...

When handing out CRB forms for people to fill in, I am supposed to advise them that the enhanced CRB may flag up stuff about their partners or other people living at the same address. This is part of the guidance/advice from our umbrella body for how we should make sure applicants are informed of what the CRB check means for them personally. I think that the info may sometimes not appear as part of the enhanced disclosure the applicant gets, but as the extra info the applying group might get (what is called 'disclosure information' rather than the actual disclosure).

How often such info about other people living at the same address really gets documentd and passed to the applying group I don't know, I haven't ever seen anything like it come thru on anybody, though.

Where YOU as a victim shouldn't be penalised, is how any of the info is used. Anyone seeing an enhanced CRB is supposed to have a policy that explicitly says how they will interpret whatever info is revealed to them. Obviously victims should not be penalised or viewed as responsible for the crimes done to them. Or posing a hazard to others as a result, either.

thanks, im not sure what to do now. i dont want my aunt knowing my partners history.

does it just show what people did or whether they served time etc as well?

i know my aunt said that peoples speeding tickets etc show.

i might ring up the crb people tomorrow and see what they say.

Do Ring CRB, they do try hard to be helpful. Maybe I'm misinformed about the likelihood of your partner's history coming up. We have to really lay it on thick when people apply for CRB clearance and background checks about how invasive the process might be.

My DH had been in trouble in the past for 'anger issues' and his CRB comes up with all sorts of things...

When I applied for mine, none of his information appeared on the check. I even had a caution for a stupid thing I did and that didn't show up either, so I wouldn't worry, but agree re ringing the CRB people for some clarification.

CRB. Scroll down there is a phone number you can ring for advice.

I have had enhanced checks and although there is nothing that would show up, they always come to me to pass on to my employer. So you would be able to see what was on there. I thought it was only criminal convictions that showed up on there?
I had a motoring offence a few years ago and that has never shown up on one.

no it wont MALI.

what you were told was that your house details and phone number would be tagged in teh police database. this meant that you would be given priority if there was a call to your home as there was a histroy of violance.

this would not show up on an enhanced disclosure.

don't panic.

dp is mortified that him being stupid in the past mgith jepradise me going for a job.

Are you sure your aunt would even see it? I work for a teacher training college so all applicants have CRB checks. There are very strict rules about who gets to see them.

my aunt is the one who applies for them for the people going for the jobs!

i was a stupid teenager and got into trouble
approx 3 times 1 conviction for assault at age 17yrs i am now 40 i have to have an enhanced crb check i have worked for 20 years for my employer i have never been in trouble since age 17 will it show on my check ?

Yes it most possibly will. Dp's was about 10 years old and showed up.

What line of work are you in?
