And you are supposed to be starting in 3 weeks, would you be worried?

I got an email say "hi nightmarecometrue, hope you're on the wind down for Christmas, we are in the middle of a company restructure that I want to keep you up to speed on are you available tomorrow to talk" Wording like that anyway.

I'm terrified they are withdrawing the offer- does this seem like this is how it coukd read?

I signed contract in sept and passed all the background checks (incase that makes a difference to your thoughts)

Please give me your thoughts I'm so incredibly worried as my own job is filled and I there is no way I can go back..

Please please give me your thoughts, am I overreacting?

I would guess a change of role or changes to the rile rather than a withdrawal of an offer.

SchrodingersKettle · 09/12/2022 06:34

If they are going through redundancy process they may have decided to involve you in the consultation now. I had this on day 1 of a new job, but i kept my job and loved it there.

Don't panic, take the call and hopefully it will be an inform only. If you already signed contracts then you're effectively part of the team already.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:35

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale do you think so? I am almost sick with worry. I keep getting mixed thoughts of why she didn't mebtion me starting in jan and with all the recession talk it has left me v worried.

Sounds familiar...have you posted before about this?

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:37

I hoping the language would be different if it was more serious but I'm still sick with worry and never slept a wink last night

Good luck! So stressful but likely to just be a change in title or line manager. We are having similar at my work and new starters are still starting.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:38

@Gatekeeper yes, I listed last night in the chat section (sorry, I'm just worried)

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:40

@Gufo thanks so much. It'll be so awful if they do this just before Christmas and I'm left jobless

Yes, I would guess you are overreacting.

Sounds like they are doing the weight hung and keeping you up to date prior to starting. It may mean you're in a different team or have a different manager to whoever you are expecting/interviewed you.

sorrynotathome · 09/12/2022 06:42

Absolutely no point worrying yourself to death, as you have no idea what will happen. Just ensure that you don’t say or do anything you might regret later. You may be given options that you hadn’t previously expected or considered. It could be a good thing!! Just write things down and ask them to repeat anything you don’t understand (because you don’t know the company like they do).

LadyHarmby · 09/12/2022 06:43

She wouldn’t send you an mail or word it like that if they were withdrawing your offer. I’d expect something more formal from HR in that event.

also ‘keeping you up to speed’ means it’s stuff you need to know. Which you wouldn’t of you were being let go.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:44

@sorrynotathome @SantasFlaws thank you for your feedback. I guess it just through me and I just jumped right to the worst case scenario

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:53

I do think the words used like "keep you up to speed" and asking if I'm winding down for Christmas is a bit of a gentler landing but until i hear at 3pm today, you can imagine how I'm feeling 😢

KatherineJaneway · 09/12/2022 06:54

Best thing you can do is take a big breath and wait and see what is said.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:58

@KatherineJaneway yes I know. I just like collecting ideas from you all and gathering your impartial thoughts x

She could be updating you in regards to a new reporting line or changes in your team.

GnomeDePlume · 09/12/2022 07:05

@nightmarecometrue1 I received a similar sounding email just before I was due to start in a new company.

Well, 12 months later I am still in my job!

It did feel a bit disconcerting at the time. However I have come to realise that my new employer is just good at empathetic communication. My previous employer wouldn't have bothered to tell employees anything let alone new hires.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 07:07

@GnomeDePlume thank you 🙏 you have no idea how much you're help settle me. I just wasn't expecting to hear anything before I started

@nightmarecometrue1

Same thing happened to me! They were making ppl redundant but not me, they still really wanted me and just wanted to put me in the picture. Good luck!

Herejustforthisone · 09/12/2022 07:10

I really think you’re panicking for no reason.

90yomakeuproom · 09/12/2022 07:12

Please try not to worry all day, take some deep breaths.

SailingBuddy · 09/12/2022 07:18

I’d imagine if they were going to screw you over if would have been a straight to the point email.
fingers crossed for you today at 3 xx

CourtneeLuv · 09/12/2022 07:19

Good luck.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/12/2022 07:21

Maybe she thought you might have heard about the restructure and been worried about the security of your own job, so she was trying to reassure you?

Crim576 · 09/12/2022 07:22

Can you ask to speak to them earlier than 3?
