And you are supposed to be starting in 3 weeks, would you be worried?

I got an email say "hi nightmarecometrue, hope you're on the wind down for Christmas, we are in the middle of a company restructure that I want to keep you up to speed on are you available tomorrow to talk" Wording like that anyway.

I'm terrified they are withdrawing the offer- does this seem like this is how it coukd read?

I signed contract in sept and passed all the background checks (incase that makes a difference to your thoughts)

Please give me your thoughts I'm so incredibly worried as my own job is filled and I there is no way I can go back..

Please please give me your thoughts, am I overreacting?

Why bother starting a whole new thread? Did you just abandon the other one

shreddies · 09/12/2022 11:59

The tone of that message doesn't say to me that your job is in danger. I would try not to worry

PinkPrettyAndPointed · 09/12/2022 12:02

I think you might have a new reporting line. They'd want to let you know if you've already met your TL in the interviews etc.

Eeiliethya · 09/12/2022 12:12

I wouldn't panic until you've had the discussion.

When they offered you the job, the company would look different to how it might look after a restructure so they will probably want to discuss the changes so you're still aligned and want the job.

The organisation I'm working for is currently undertaking a huge restructure involving two continents and this would be updated to any potential new hires just because the scale of our leadership has completely changed. Nobody is getting fired, just a huge merging of service offers.

See what they have to say, then cross the panic bridge if you need to.

This is such a good point. I can't believe none of us included me mentioned in before. They will have known your role may change slightly and you were probably interviewed with that in mind.

Jammylodger · 09/12/2022 14:27

I also would not panic but I would prepare for a discussion that could involve several different possibilities as outlined above .. I always think being prepared for a possible negative outcome will enable you to ask the right questions at the time and not need another call later so you have all the information needed immediately .. sadly roles are being withdrawn post offer so if this is a possibility, just check you know what your rights are to be ready to respond appropriately .. rather than in shock - Good luck!

good96 · 09/12/2022 15:16

I would not worry to be fair, it will probably be just a call to let you know of the changes they’re making so that you’re aware of what the new structure will be. The re-structure would have been on the cards for months but the information of this would be embargoed until announcement was made thus not being able to tell you until now.
Be keen to hear what happens.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 15:17

Well looks like I'm spending Christmas looking for a new job. The offer has been pulled. I'm ready for crying. I'm so devastated

So sorry to hear that OP! Hopefully a new job will turn up soon.

AgentProvocateur · 09/12/2022 15:19

That’s awful OP. Especially at this time of year. I really feel for you.

RJnomore1 · 09/12/2022 15:20

Aw no 😟

Pebbles16 · 09/12/2022 15:20

@nightmarecometrue1 so sorry to hear. I remembering receiving a similar call (although very unexpectedly as I was planning to buy some 'new job' shoes at the time).
Was gutted.
But turned out for the best because people who worked at the restructuring company were very jittery and the atmosphere became very toxic

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 15:21

I literally cannot believe this is happening to me.

As in 'I was in the shop trying them on'

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 15:22

@Pebbles16 I'm sure I'll look and see why it all happened but right now I just want to dig a hole.

Sorry to read this Op.

Rustyheart · 09/12/2022 15:26

I’m really sorry for you and you’re going to feel awful right now but remember this will turn out to be for the best. You will find something even better. Horrible of them but nothing you can do. So sorry you have to go through this.

redtshirt50 · 09/12/2022 15:26

Wow, I didn't know that was something that could even happen.

They've really dropped you in it, that is really awful of them.

I would go to your current employer and explain the situation and see if there's anything they can do. They might say no, but you've got nothing to lose by asking.

I hope you find something else soon.

Rustyheart · 09/12/2022 15:28

Yes I agree with the above poster- I would be frank with your current employer and see what they can do.

catmum88 · 09/12/2022 15:29

So sorry to hear this. I’m in HR and hearing about this often at the moment, it’s a really awful thing to happen. The way it was phrased by them (keeping you up to speed) was also not great. I hope you find something else soon.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 09/12/2022 15:36

Flowers Hope you find something else soon, OP

WhaleInAManger · 09/12/2022 15:45

Wow. That's really shit, OP.

I am not sure it is 'withdrawing the offer' if the contracts have been signed? Surely they should offer you some £ compensation for the turmoil they've caused by letting it get to that stage?

GnomeDePlume · 09/12/2022 15:54

I am so sorry!

pigonalipstick · 09/12/2022 15:56

What did your contract say about notice period, and terms? Have they followed this? Are they making the role redundant, or just not filling it for now?
