And you are supposed to be starting in 3 weeks, would you be worried?

I got an email say "hi nightmarecometrue, hope you're on the wind down for Christmas, we are in the middle of a company restructure that I want to keep you up to speed on are you available tomorrow to talk" Wording like that anyway.

I'm terrified they are withdrawing the offer- does this seem like this is how it coukd read?

I signed contract in sept and passed all the background checks (incase that makes a difference to your thoughts)

Please give me your thoughts I'm so incredibly worried as my own job is filled and I there is no way I can go back..

Please please give me your thoughts, am I overreacting?

I'm so very sorry OP. I wasn't expecting that. Hope you find an even better job soon.

7eleven · 09/12/2022 16:14

If you’ve signed a contract, surely they owe you some recompense? Maybe try the Citizens Advice?

Starseeking · 09/12/2022 16:21

I'm so sorry to hear that OP, I wasn't expecting that.

Im not sure if they have said anything about payment, but I'd be checking to see if I could negotiate at least 3 months pay from them to tide you over, that is awful.

Blueyismylife · 09/12/2022 16:22

Oh no. I'm so sorry!

stripes416 · 09/12/2022 16:24

Oh no that's awful, I'm so sorry. It was so badly worded aswell and making you wait all that time to find out what's happening
Isn't fair

mrsmarmalade12 · 09/12/2022 16:24

I'm so sorry to hear that OP, I wasn't expecting that at all. In this case I think their original email was very poorly worded. Im so sorry.

notanothertakeaway · 09/12/2022 16:27

Bummer

Worth asking if you can stay on where you are. They may say No if they know you'll still be looking to move on, but it's worth asking

theemmadilemma · 09/12/2022 16:37

How shit of them OP. I'm really sorry.

hopeishere · 09/12/2022 16:41

Awful. Has your current role been advertised? Could you ask to rescind your resignation?

hopeishere · 09/12/2022 16:42

Sorry just saw it has been filled. How awful of them.

EarringsandLipstick · 09/12/2022 16:48

OP I'm so sorry.

I know you are in shock now, understandably.

What is your personal situation - regarding savings / mortgage / married or not (in terms of gauging how urgent this is).

Regarding the contract, if you signed it, you potentially have some financial recourse, and as hard as it is, first thing Monday you need to follow up on this. Seek legal or employment advise.

Thirdly, speak to your own employer. I understand your role there is no longer available, but there may be some temporary opportunity.

Have you good support IRL? I know this is really awful to deal with.

amonsteronthehill · 09/12/2022 16:49

I'm so sorry. Surely they should have to pay some recompense since contracts were signed and you've given notice at your current job?!

Choconut · 09/12/2022 16:57

What a fucking awful company to do that to someone just before Christmas.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 09/12/2022 16:58

If contracts are signed they owe you the notice period (and associated pay).

Not saying there is a finite number of threads that can be started, but what’s the point starting a new post saying the same thing - utterly pointless

So is your post but no one is telling you that are they.

Princessglittery · 09/12/2022 17:13

I’m so sorry @nightmarecometrue1 definitely go and explain to your HR and ask to rescind your notice.

whatayear22 · 09/12/2022 17:52

I'm so sorry, OP. They are an awful organisation to have let things go so far and for so long.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 17:54

Thanks everyone for your kind posts. I'm feeling a bit better now that I've accepted the news. I have started applying for new jobs so fingers crossed it leads to something new for me. They have compensated me but the money won't last long so I need to get a job asap.

I just think it's so miserable to let someone down at this late stage but I guess you're only ever a number.

This shows you a lot about the culture of the organisation, OP. They could have told you this earlier and they didn't. You have dodged a bullet even if it doesn't feel like that now.

KatherineJaneway · 09/12/2022 23:13

So sorry to hear that OP Flowers

sorrynotathome · 11/12/2022 07:54

Sorry to hear that OP. You got this job and you will get another one - perhaps equally as dreamy! Best of luck.

oviraptor21 · 11/12/2022 08:12

Terrible behaviour.

Maybe consider a court claim
