And you are supposed to be starting in 3 weeks, would you be worried?

I got an email say "hi nightmarecometrue, hope you're on the wind down for Christmas, we are in the middle of a company restructure that I want to keep you up to speed on are you available tomorrow to talk" Wording like that anyway.

I'm terrified they are withdrawing the offer- does this seem like this is how it coukd read?

I signed contract in sept and passed all the background checks (incase that makes a difference to your thoughts)

Please give me your thoughts I'm so incredibly worried as my own job is filled and I there is no way I can go back..

Please please give me your thoughts, am I overreacting?

I had a similar thing happen to me and remember how worrying it was. In the end the news was that the company had decided to close the office I was due to start at. They offered me the same position at another office which was fine for me. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

Starseeking · 09/12/2022 07:26

It sounds like they are wanting to keep you in the picture regarding consultation happening around the business, but presumably if they've just recruited you, your role must be ok.

I'd expect a more formal letter if they were planning on withdrawing the offer.

I'm in the same boat in that I'm almost at the end of a 3 month notice period, and starting a new job in the first week of January, so would possibly feel similar to you if I got this message, but please be reassured, it sounds like a company which is good at communicating.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 07:27

@Crim576 unfortunately I can't speak to her earlier earlier. She works in New York so there's a time difference and I have meetings which can't be cancelled.

Hope your meeting goes well x

FB546 · 09/12/2022 07:32

I'd guess a change of line manager or your new team is moving into a different division. I think there would be a more formal message if the role was being withdrawn. Hope it goes well.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 07:40

I really hope you're all right and I've just overthought and worried for nothing. It's my dream job, took me 6mths from seeing the job to actually getting the offer (and had to do lots to get there) I really hope they don't decide they no longer need me.

Roll on 3

Maybe she thought you might have heard about the restructure and been worried about the security of your own job, so she was trying to reassure you?

This was the reason my new employer gave for contacting me. They were wanting to reassure me as I could have heard about the changes which were coming.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 06:38

@Gatekeeper yes, I listed last night in the chat section (sorry, I'm just worried)

Why not just add to your other post then rather than starting a whole new thread about exactly the same thing.

fivetriangulartrees · 09/12/2022 07:45

A previous employer called me the day before I started the job to tell me that my whole department except me was relocating to [city nobody wanted to move to]. I laughed! It was more to stop me panicking when I heard the rumours on my first day, rather than because it would affect me. I did the job for a year and it never relocated, even after I left.

Does it matter? There isn't a finite number of threads that can be started.

Aozora13 · 09/12/2022 07:49

I would imagine that she just wants to prepare you for how things are going to be - it can be tough joining somewhere in the middle of job cuts. Generally speaking, recruitment freezes are a way to mitigate redundancies and those kind of decisions/processes take time. Given that and the tone of the email I would think your job is safe but it’s a difficult time for the company. Good luck and hope it goes well for you!

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 07:49

@LadyPenelope68 I'm worried sick, please don't criticise me for starting a new thread.

You posted this yesterday and had plenty of responses then.
I appreciate its stressful bit nobody can tell you what’s going to happen and you are (understandably) getting yourself into a state about something you have no control over.
Try and distract yourself

LadyPenelope68 · 09/12/2022 07:57

People get you’re worried but you had loads of helpful posts and support yesterday, so starting a another thread is utterly pointless

Not saying there is a finite number of threads that can be started, but what’s the point starting a new post saying the same thing - utterly pointless

MrsHughesPinny · 09/12/2022 08:23

If you have a team, it might just be that they want to let you know they’re bringing some extra people in under you because of the restructure and want to let you know. Or alternatively they’re cutting people from your direct reports and will need to re-divide work among your existing time (and you!) that will mean additional responsibilities.

MrsHughesPinny · 09/12/2022 08:24

My kingdom for an edit button!
*your existing team

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 09/12/2022 08:27

My guess would be that it’s maybe more to let you know your job role might be slightly different than previous discussed or the team you go into.

I feel like it would be a more formal email if they were withdrawing the offer. Anything is possible though.

hope it goes ok!

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 09/12/2022 09:10

Good luck, hopefully just a change of line manager/job title or similar.
I started a job and was immediately thrown into the hat for redundancy. This proved to be a bit theoretical as I was the only one with the skills needed for my role.

larkstar · 09/12/2022 10:12

@nightmarecometrue1 I'd guess that you are part of the new structure. If anything, maybe you are being assigned responsibilities/duties that other people - who might still be there after restructuring - would have expected to be doing. I say that as I have been out in that situation without my knowing - I encountered some resistance when I started one role - I had no idea my appointment had actually upset a couple of people.

hopeishere · 09/12/2022 11:29

Is also guess it's due to a change in duties or reports.

nightmarecometrue1 · 09/12/2022 11:31

We'll I'll know all at 3pm. One minute I'm reassured that it's just them keeping me in the loop and updated but my little anxious, worried mind keeps wondering over to the dark side and the 'what ifs'

OP posts:
whatayear22 · 09/12/2022 11:34

She's kept it deliberately very vague, hasn't she? She could have reassured you by saying that your job wouldn't be affected but obviously will be in some way.

whatayear22 · 09/12/2022 11:35

I should say by affected I mean impacted, I don't mean you are about to lose your job offer. Good luck, OP

hopeishere · 09/12/2022 11:47

What sort of job is it? Are you managing a team?

I would be a bit wary of an employer going through a restructure.
