I don't understand - can't you find a nursery?

joyfulspike · 31/01/2008 13:02

Oh what a shame.

Is there no way you can get any childcare cover?

Or would they let you do the training part time?

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:03

dd2 goes to nursery 3 days a week already

dd1 is in P1

the nursery wouldnt accomodate dd2 an extra 2 days - i know they are full

who would pick up dd1 from school? ok, one of the other mums might do it for a day or 2, dh can finish work early a couple of days, but for 8 WEEKS? - NO

childminder? relative? neighbour?

norkmaiden · 31/01/2008 13:03

short-term nanny?

£££ but worth it long-term surely, if the job is as good as you say?

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:03

i asked about part time

OP posts:
soapbox · 31/01/2008 13:04

Can't you find some temporary cover. If the money is really good you would be better off even if you have to pay for a temp nanny for 8 weeks. Talk to some local nanny agencies!

Or perhaps there are some childminders near you who have a vacancy and would be willing to fill in for these 8 weeks.

Go on, get your act together - it is worth sorting it out!

bookwormmum · 31/01/2008 13:04

a childminder would do a pickup if you can find one for such a short time.

is it possible to restructure the training so you do it over a longer period?

My2Weegirls · 31/01/2008 13:04

a childminder?

nutcracker · 31/01/2008 13:05

8 weeks isn't that long. You might find a friend or another mum that would do it.

I had my friends kids for free for months whilst she found a childminder when she started uni.

anorak · 31/01/2008 13:05

Yes get a childminder. I had a brilliant one who gave my son much better attention than I did!

agree with the stern (but loving) words of soapy!

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:05

i cant asked a neighbour to do it 5 days a week for 8 weeks can i

and we dont have any relatives less than 90 miles away

there are no cms round here (believe it or not). i tried to find one when we moved here (last year) and i couldnt. thats why dd2 goes to a nursery and i have to collect dd1 from school#

how much would a nanny be? i need one 3-5 mon-wed and all day thurs and fri

OP posts:
joyfulspike · 31/01/2008 13:06

You'd think that they would be able to accomodate your needs if they are willing to employ you presumably part time? Sounds like discrimination, offer the job, but make the training impossible to attend.

Could you pay another parent to collect dd1, or could dh take annual leave to cover the times when there isn't cover?

nutcracker · 31/01/2008 13:07

If it really is your dream job then you need to move heaven and earth to get the childcare sorted, otherwise you will always regret it imo.

Temp nanny is probably the best idea.

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:08

im sorry i cant call in a favour to people i have barely known a few months - to have dd2 all day ? i cant do that

wtf do i start with agencies? argh. have to let employer know by tomorrow

should i just accept the job and then fingers crossed i can sort something out?

I take a friend's ds to school every day, and pick him up a couple of days a week too. Have done since September, and shall do until July. I don't mind at all. If you don't ask, you don't get!

bossykate · 31/01/2008 13:08

get thee to gumtree pronto!

bossykate · 31/01/2008 13:08

when does the job start? four weeks? you will find a nanny in that time.

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:09

but fallenmadonna she is your friend

the only other people i know here are a bunch of mums i see in the playground

OP posts:
nailpolish · 31/01/2008 13:10

the job starts in middle of march

funnypeculiar · 31/01/2008 13:10

It feels like this ought to be sortable somehow ...
Is ti worth checking the local CM register again (things can change fast - were there none before, or none with vacancies.
Double check with the nursery - also see if they have pt staff who would look after dd2.
Put an ad in the local paper
Network, network, network with local mums - OK, you can't ask anyone to do 8 weeks - but could you ask 4 people to do 2 weeks. (Think - would I do this if someone asked me & I knew they were desparate... I would!)
