nailpolish · 31/01/2008 17:23

ihave had one reply (emailed all 3 CD)
she said "10th march is a bit far away - i am interested - email me nearer the time and ill se how i am placed"

i would never pay a mother's help that much. nannys around here only cost 7 pound an hour!

i would pay 5-6 pound an hour.

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 17:32

i was thinking £6-7

you are in london remember cd

Sorry... have only scanned thread so someone may have said this already, but bear in mind that nurseries are allowed to go over their limits for 'emergencies'. Admittedly 8 weeks might be pushing it, but they presumably want to keep your custom so it'd be worth asking anyway. They don't advertise this, for obvious reasons, but I found it out by chance when I was totally at a loss for anyone to look after dd1 when I went into labour with dd2 (no family near, etc.). The nursery found out I had this problem and agreed to take dd1 for the time I was in hospital (which was only one day as it happened, but could have been more.) If your dd2 could go to nursery full-time, you'd only have dd1 to sort out and she's at school so you'd have more flexibility e.g. with childminders (who are allowed to have more over-5s than under-5s).

Really hope you sort this out.

Ellbell · 31/01/2008 17:39

CONGRATULATIONS on the job, btw!

nailpolish · 31/01/2008 17:39

Oh you must have been reading the Babysitting T&C's as they only charge a registration fee for that!

Butterfly Personnel in Edinburgh were also recommended

You'd be surprised at what people will do for you. I barely talk to the other moms at dd1's pre-school (because i'm too shy) but if I found out any of them were in the situation you are I'd help them out like a shot. What I'm clumsily trying to say is just because someone doesn't talk soesn't mean they don't want to or won't help. Even if you were to talk to the teacher or someone about it loudly when the other moms are around . . .one may step up and say Oh I'll help out. That way you don't have to walk up to each and every one of them and ask outright.
really hope you can get this sorted. I know I'd be devastated too if I was you. (I need to work out what my dream job is before I pursue it!!!)

ssd · 01/02/2008 09:27

I know lots of childminders and a couple of Glasgow based childcare agencies, I live on the south side of Glasgow

nailpolish · 01/02/2008 09:29

i ~WOULD ask another mum - but i dont want to cos its for 8 weeks which i feel is too much to ask. most of the other mums work, i do know one mum quite well, but she has a newborn baby. i would feel comfortable if it was a week, but not 8.

id rather pay someone to do it iyswim

ive had 2/3 replies - one girls cant do it, another said to get in touch nearer the time (prob waiting to see if she gets something better - fiar enough)

ssd

do you know any in edinburgh?

OP posts:
ssd · 01/02/2008 09:32

is there any colleges near you that do the Child Development course? (this trains people to work in a nursery)maybe a second year student could do those hours after she has finished college for the weeks you want her

might be worth ringing round local colleges to ask

ssd · 01/02/2008 09:32

no sorry, I don't know any in Edinburgh at all

nailpolish · 01/02/2008 09:33

ssd sthere are a couple, yes. telford college is quite near

thanks!

OP posts:
ssd · 01/02/2008 09:34

I wrote "second year" student as the CDO (child development officer) course is usually 2 years and I thought a second year-er would have a bit more experience, but of course you could get someone in their first year that suits you.

good luck!

clu · 01/02/2008 09:47

not all CM like to go on the list, check the care commission site. You could also put an advert in the local paper looking for help, put the dates in. Around the middle of march some student teachers will finish their placemnt and may be available for a wee job. You also may find someone local who has childcare experience . good luck

nailpolish · 04/02/2008 13:29

ok ive put adds in colleges

have had a few replies from students wh oadvertiesed on gumtree but they cant do every da of the week -trying to juggle but its not working so far

and i got a letter this morning saying not only do i ahve to do these 8 weeks training, but twice a month i will have a 9-5 study day, for the first 6 montsh

are they trying to weed out the hardcore people and give them the jobs? orWHAT
