@Whitestar55 - VR is much quicker some of the good dictation put in their own full stops etc and because they are so clear sometimes you just have to listen to the letter and send it! The system they use has already been loaded with names of doctors spellings and drugs terminology etc so it picks the words up. In 2 hours I can easily make £25 so the amount of characters they say they would like from a transcriber is easily achieved. I work part time and easily make £500-600 a month now with being able to use the copy and pasting of diagnoses etc and text replacement. Its speeds things up no end for me. I have lots of time now to myself but know I could earn a heck of a lot more if I need to. I know you want out of the industry but think Dict8 has really put people off. Please give it a go. I think youd be really pleasantly suprised and if not I hope you find something else that you are happy with. Good luck.
@nomadchild - all I can say is ditto! 😊👍

Whitestar55 · 28/04/2023 23:15

@carosel2 I wouldn't get through the telephone or video interview for T-pro. I wouldn't be able to fake enthusiasm for the job lol

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and got on to the subject of work ! I was telling her about the weird proofreading comments I had received over the past six months and she said anyone can be a proofreader as they all use Grammarly or some other AI tool, "makes them look more intelligent than they are" 😂This has never occurred to me before (old school) but she is office based and said most of the young people rely on it these days.

Anyone on here use AI ? I did say to her if we start using it it might make the proofreaders redundant !!!

I've grammerly installed with my book writing, it mainly kicks off on Facebook ot here when on pc. I find it annoying as it adds words I didn't type to make the sentence better so, it wouldn't work for dictation.
It doesn't kick in for the transcription window but it does in the notes one!!!

Whitestar55 · 29/04/2023 07:54

I tried Grammarly for transcription. It was a pain, it was distracting and as @Frazzledbynature says, adds words. Anyway, who needs grammar for med trans, when Pidgin English is the accepted norm 😂

I don't think AI is at the stage where it could replace a skilled proofreader at the moment, especially for technical stuff.

@carosel2 @nomadchild Thanks, I'll think about it. Do you have to have a phone or video interview?

OP posts:
nomadchild · 29/04/2023 11:56

Its a typing test initially which is quite straightforward and then if that is okay a video interview. They are very nice, it is all quite informal and relaxed.

carosel2 · 29/04/2023 12:08

@Whitestar55 - I had a video interview. It was very informal and relaxed. Your CV will hold the info they need and a short typing test which is done at your leisure and is very easy. The fact youve been a med sec and work for Dict8 is a good enough reference. My team lead just went through the system and how it works and they send a crib sheet with all thats required to type the letters advising what to do. She was lovely and chatted about herself and just general chit chat. I think its just a way of introducing themselves too and the gentle.Irish accent does.not come across intimidating in any way and its nice to put a face to your team lead but when they send you a message their picture comes up on the message anyway so you can see who you are connecting with. I didnt have to answer questions like a test it was very relaxed and they are so helpful. Why dont you give it a go! Youve nothing to lose and if you dont like it youve still got Dict8 to fall back on or choose something else. There's always plenty of work at the weekends too if you fancy doing a bit then and it can free your time up.mid week if you need time out

Whitestar55 · 29/04/2023 15:13

@carosel2 and @nomadchild Thanks. I'm really uncomfortable with the thought of a video interview, so I might give it a miss, but thanks.

Whitestar55 · 29/04/2023 15:25

Do they send messages via video too? To be honest I don't want that kind of involvement and chit-chat etc, for a freelance transcription job that I only do for the money without pleasure or interest in particular. Maybe I should concentrate on something else, but thanks again.

@Whitestar55 - aww thats such a shame! It only lasts about 3/4 hr and most of that is listening to the rules. The test is done at your leisure before interview and the messages are via their little chat line like you would get if you ever go on a chat forum like if you want to ask your bank a question and the little bubble comes up.saying type question and the answer gets typed back. It comes.in through your email too. Its a bubble where you can type a question to them.anytime too and they reply to it via that its all text messages no video. Ive never seen them since I started other than the interview nearly 18mnths ago. In fact I never hear anything from them unless.they text saying any chance of helping here and there otherwise they just leave you to it. ! You email Dict8 if you have a query dont you well you text a message to tpro on their site or they text you that way with info back😊

carosel2 · 29/04/2023 18:45

@Whitestar55 - i know what you mean abt the video though as I was a bit reluctant abt it as im quite self conscious but it was covid and i was desperate for work. Im so glad i did.it as it really isnt an issue I promise 😊

Gally123 · 29/04/2023 21:49

@Whitestar55 I agree the video chats sounds a bit intimidating but was fine - I had two, the first with the recruitment woman who mainly went through the system, the letter templates, and then with the two team leaders, who really just introduced themselves. Neither was really a job interview.

Lunnuni · 01/05/2023 13:23

I will only say that when using their chat you need to put a name on your message to ensure it gets to the right place, so you need to note who's who. I haven't been too good about this, and particularly after my injury I was not in the most organised place! I messaged without saying who to, saying I had had the accident and wouldn't be able to work for a bit. I had a nice response saying not to worry, but clearly the info was not passed to the boss lady Kate and I then got a message from her a couple of weeks later wondering why I wasn't doing any typing. Of course it was all fine when I explained, they couldn't be nicer, but I would have thought the person who replied to my message should have passed the information up the line. I address anything about working/not working to Kate now. I think she is the main boss and she interviewed me before I started.

Whitestar55 · 02/05/2023 11:55

Thanks, I've decided not to apply to T-pro just now due to the fact that their values and they way they run the company clashes with my views.

I only type for Dict8 and that suits me ... sure I have the odd gripe, as we all do for whoever we work for, from time to time. I am sticking with Dict 8 as I, like @Whitestar55, have no wish to learn other systems, do typing tests or video calling or interviews. I am too old. I manage -- of course, in the current clime, as with all who are currently working, the pay is the problem and does not equate to the cost of living.

Whitestar55 · 02/05/2023 12:40

I'm happy to learn new systems, but not for another freelance transcription job, which has little to offer for your efforts and that does not pay you for time spent learning or for bank holidays (I bet their real employees were paid yesterday!).

OP posts:
Pinksville · 02/05/2023 13:24

@Frazzledbynature on Grammarly you can just copy and paste your text into a an untitled doc online (if you sign up) and almost instantly it gives you all the corrections etc. I save my DICT8 abuse, opps, feedback and have put a few of their comments past Grammarly and they are spookily similar 👻

Whitestar55 · 03/05/2023 15:49

@Pinksville I had a quick look at Grammarly again and it appears to have a voice to text function. Have you tried this, and is it free? I've tried Google Docs for VR transcription, but it was 💩at it.

OP posts:
Pinksville · 03/05/2023 16:19

@Whitestar55 not tried that but the copy and paste is really quick on it and recognises a lot of medical terminology. It is quite handy actually !!!

Whitestar55 · 03/05/2023 16:34

@Pinksville Thanks for replying. I'm thinking more along getting a programme to type the dictation out. I don't want to join a company where you just edit VR though, due to the fact that you have to do twice as much to earn your pennies.

@Whitestar55 we used Dragon at my previous workplace.

danblack87 · 06/05/2023 05:57

Hope everyone has a lovely day today whether it be watching the Coronation or spending time with family and friends or working!!

Gally123 · 06/05/2023 09:01

@danblack87 It is raining here but I will be watching the TV later! Working currently. Did you see the message I sent you?

cathyk2002 · 09/05/2023 20:41

Hi

I've just contacted Dict8 as I retired end of 2021 due to no fault of mine & was looking for working from home on a job I loved.

Is the TPro I've been reading in your posts about a better bet??

Lunnuni · 10/05/2023 08:26

I'd say so. Dict8 is pretty quiet these days. Dict8 requires actual typing of dictation whereas Tpro is mainly proofreading and correction. You have to put in a lot of time to make any money from either. I started Dict8 after retiring at 60 from NHS and it was okay for the first few years but does not provide enough work for me and I joined Tpro last year.
