I was looking on Indeed for anything workwise and came across DICT8 employee reviews and this was a response from DICT8 to one review

Review
Because of the importance of the letter, I found I spent a lot of time checking, making sure I had made no errors.
To then see I was paid 30p for around half an hours work.

Response
Sorry to see that was your experience. There are a few thousand people working on the DICT8 system and there wouldn’t be if they were making that kind of money! Transcribers are paid on a per line basis and would have to type and check their work extraordinarily slowly to make that little over half an hour

says it all really !!!!

Chrissols · 22/04/2023 12:22

Just looked on Dict8 for first time in a bit, has work dried up again?

Whitestar55 · 22/04/2023 12:41

@Chrissols It's not completely dried up but the reservoir is low.

@Pinksville I read the same response you did on that particular review and I was shocked by the response. It is completely easy to only earn 30p/hour and the reason for that is that sometimes the work is sporadic at best/with rubbish dictation that cannot be typed [the whole situation is MUCH worse with the cost of living crisis and continual strikes] hence, there is no work available and entirely possible to only earn £1-5/hr which is just not good enough. I accept the limitations of being self-employed BUT really the point is that the line pay should be at LEAST 0.10/hr + considering no pay rise has been instigated for over 14+ years, at THAT is the point.

danblack87 · 22/04/2023 12:59

I meant 0.10 - 0.12/line NOT/hr of course!!!! Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Frazzledbynature · 22/04/2023 15:01

Hi Everyone,

Been down with a torn hip/thigh injury, I tried typing and managed 3 letters in two days so not been here at the pc for a while and completely forget to engage with the phone.

Anyway, thanks for the prior help with the tax form, it's still pending due to the injury but I've also been overseeing the development of repairs to my craft room which I never thought I'd ever see the day that the option of making money on eBay with my hobbies would probably end up more lucrative than Dict8 but that's the plan.

Thanks to the carers allowance I have a minimum amount of income now to cover the basics so when I feel like typing I will.

It's so very terrible that this is happening to us who just want to make a bit of income to keep the wolf from the door.

I'll drop in from time to time or days when I decide to type but all the very best to you in the meantime.

X

Whitestar55 · 22/04/2023 15:59

@Frazzledbynature That sounds painful, I hope you're feeling better now and it's good to hear your craft business plans are underway.

Pinksville · 22/04/2023 17:07

@danblack87 It was shocking wasn't it !!! The person had been diligent and didn't want the letter to be delayed and they came back with that !!! Might as well have just told the person to F off !!!

Chrissols · 23/04/2023 09:14

@Frazzledbynature good luck with your new venture…..exciting times 🍀🤞

danblack87 · 24/04/2023 08:57

@Frazzledbynature Hope things are picking up for you regarding your hip/thigh injury I really struggled when I broke my shoulder/arm (right side). I feel for you and hope you are feeling rather better soon.

danblack87 · 24/04/2023 08:59

@Pinksville It was a shocking response and, hence, most definitely set me on my mission!!! The reply in itself was just in my mind a 'what the f**k response is that'/

danblack87 · 24/04/2023 09:17

Dear fellow transcribers:

I have very little motivation today. My dad (84) is not well with a serious chest infection. My bessie M8's nephew just hung himself; he went to hospital on Monday after taking an overdose and was released from hospital on Tuesday ... hung himself on Wednesday. My stoic grand-daugher (5) was bullied at school but, heroically, did not cry until she got into the car with my daughter, BUT only when mum asked her if she was okay (something seemed off) then GD explained all that had happened [but she had told the after school minder nothing]. Mum said 'did you cry?' GD: 'No 'cos they would have could me a 'cry baby'' - and continued to sob for two hours ... heart breaking. My other Best M8's partner is in hospital with heart failure and my partner of 9 years is not well and being very 'grumpy' SHIT LIFE. Oh and my daughter's ex is being a T**T. OMG I am so pissed off. LOL

Whitestar55 · 24/04/2023 09:48

@danblack87 So sorry - sending hugs to you. We really need a good health, wellbeing and lifestyle revolution and to stop letting the superpowers and other cretins taking control and destroying us. Life can be better!!!

OP posts:
Pinksville · 24/04/2023 10:17

@danblack87 sending you hugs too.

My elderly father has this terrible chest infection at the moment it's such a worry. Must be something odd going about as my husband had this virus (standard GP diagnosis) and cannot seem to shake if off.

Such a sad society at the moment, trying to get help on the NHS for someone with mental health issues is virtually impossible (family member has drink/drug issues). I agree with you @Whitestar55 life should be better.

Lol yeah, it only takes about 10 years to get used to the 'rules', some of the awful dictation and the confusing feedback, to start making more than that, in my experience 😂

......... and I bet the other few quid's worth was in the note box 😂

Whitestar55 · 24/04/2023 10:33

@Pinksville Sorry to hear about your father and husband too. Our lives are no longer healthy due to pollution, pesticides, being over-medicated and over-vaxxed if you ask me.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 24/04/2023 10:45

Thank you @Whitestar55 and @Pinksville ... really pissed off at moment - need to give support to family and friends, Also need to earn money BUT that is not happening today = motivation NIL :(

carosel2 · 24/04/2023 11:56

@danblack87 - I feel your sorrow 😥my niece's fella did that, he was 26 in COVID era (depression), very sad and my daughter's fella's dad too (alcoholic). It is such a sad world we live in, we need more support for the vulnerable.

Going back to being exploited, I asked a local councillor about the way forward with the exploitation of us workers. His response was have you approached the company and asked for more money, (me) yes, (him) what did they say, (me) no, (him) then why are you still working for them!!! as long as there are people out there doing just that you will get no where!! Another thing he said because they actually supply the work for you in a way it is agency work so they take a cut out of it, the only way is to set up your own company and get the work direct. I feel like pinching a few clients, but then, we know we would breach contracts doing that don't we. No help whatsoever,

Then you think about the people coming in to this country working on the farms for such a pittance but they will as their pay will be utterly diabolical in their own country and even the minimum wage here will be quids in for them, but then the farmers say the British are lazy because they wont take the jobs, but our cost of living is so much more than the migrant workers and so they can afford to do the work here. I watched an interview with one and they said they had had a house built in his own country out of the money saved from his job over here!

deewu · 24/04/2023 12:01

@danblack87, here's hoping things improve for you. 😘

I am using "occupational therapy" aka typing to try and get through. My partner decided he does not like living where we are (it is beautiful by the sea) he has just taken himself off with no discussion and sent me an email. He has done this before just before lockdown and this somehow saved things as he had no alternative but to come back and things were a bit more stable.

He asked to be given time and space to think what HE wanted to do. I have not contacted him (this was Thursday last week) but this is now getting very hard. Not really sure what to do. Independent thoughts always welcome.

Whitestar55 · 24/04/2023 12:38

The problem is the law at the moment allows companies to exploit us.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 24/04/2023 12:56

@Deewu Tell him to stop messing you about, and to go if he wants to, but that you are no longer putting up with his yo-yo-ing and that you deserve someone who appreciates you. I think he will come running back, but although it is difficult when you have feelings for someone, you cannot be manipulated by this passive aggressive behaviour.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 24/04/2023 16:52

Work is definitely tailing off on Dicky today.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 24/04/2023 17:51

@deewu its absolutely soul destroying when someone treats you like this. I used to listen to the song ‘a little time’ by the beautiful south, it really gave me strength

deewu · 24/04/2023 19:19

@Whitestar55 @Chrissols Thanks for your support. In my opinion men are so weak and cowardly and women so much stronger.
