@Frazzledbynature 😂😂😂so would I !!!!!

Whitestar55 · 06/03/2023 11:22

Yep, all this wonderful new technology and superhuman transcribers able to create perfect reports for your company at a reduced cost, but as always the quality of the dictation babbled, blown and snorted out anywhere, any place, any time, noisy office, train, boat or plane, or MacD's, which is the real obstruction to quality and cost, is overlooked.

Ah well, late start to the dict8 party this morning so no work on. famine it is... I'm off for a coffee :)

Whitestar55 · 07/03/2023 11:05

BigHand (all four lots)
Crescendo Systems (lots 1 and 2)
DICT8 (all four lots)
Dictate IT (all four lots)
EpiQ (lot 3)
G2 Speech (all four lots)
Lexacom (lots 1,2 and 3)
Nuance Communications (lot 1)
OKS International (lot 3)
Prescribe Digital (all four lots)
ScribeTECH (all four lots)
T-Pro (all four lots)

I wonder what the chances are when the NHS sorts out its contracts with the above companies, hoping to save money, but with the companies hoping to make profits, that anyone will consider the plight of the human underpaid transcribers and proofreaders/editors that are the backbone of it all?

@Whitestar55 same as this government - they won't give a shit just as long as their pockets are lined !!!!!!

TypoQueen1 · 07/03/2023 19:00

@Whitestar55 sorry to be thick but what do you mean by lots?

Whitestar55 · 07/03/2023 22:09

I've been reading through this article, which is quite revealing really when you research the companies involved and what they offer. Many are promoting voice recognition over manual transcription to save time and money, and some are international. Glad to see DICT and Tpro are on the list, but the trend does seem to be toward dictator DIY VR tech, perhaps with inhouse secretaries editing (or not), although we all know that's far from perfect at present.

publictechnology.net/articles/news/nhs-picks-suppliers-%C2%A3200m-voice-recognition-and-digital-dictation-framework

@TypoQueen1 I copied the list from the above link. The lots are explained in the article. I've looked at the website for each company, there's only really T-pro and Dict8 that seem to use remote UK transcribers, with Dict8 being the only company that provides only manual transcription and not voice recognition. At least two of the other companies appear to sent dictation abroad to be transcribed, and all but Dict8 seem to be pushing VR documentation for clinicians to do themselves, to reduce typing and admin staff requirements and costs. What could possibly go wrong? As they say!

I’ve probably posted this before but when I was a sen med sec at The Brompton we met with Dict8 (hence how I knew abt them when I decided to work from home) and their big selling point was they were the only company that employed uk based transcriptionists. The hospitals loved that, they felt it justified the low wage 🙈 We didn’t use them in the end went in house instead. Also when I was at King’s they attempted VR with the consultants as you say @TypoQueen1 a total disaster, for one they haven’t the time, you need to be a very clear speaker to get a perfect transcript and as they argued that is the point of a PA/sec to do all this so they can use the skills they’ve mastered to actually save lives !!! They went along with it to prove how it wouldn’t work. So obvs this was binned pretty quickly. As one consultant I had said sometimes the old ways are the best. He only wanted a whiteboard in his office as he was a visual person and wanted to put his to do list on it rather than a PC or phone. What a hoo ha that created. We got it in the end, so did every office after, as it worked as he said there in yr face not hidden away. I would add he was also the lead on lots of tech projects for the trust to modernise us so was in no way a dinosaur.

Frazzledbynature · 08/03/2023 19:25

I've been watching the design master programme on Netflix and I giggled when a doctor quit his job to be a designer. They did an office challenge and he said he never had one and doctors don't need them.

He's probably right as from my experience, they are just there to dump unwanted magazines sent to them, notes all over the floor and the petri dish much of green oozing out of a mug that held tea/coffee at some point in time. (that's just one example I can recall.)

I would give them a custom based sound booth so they are not bouncing off acoustics, members of staff, doors slamming, drawers opening and closing and a big white board that says "don't start the dictation with a great big erm!!"

Whitestar55 · 08/03/2023 19:51

On the subject of TV programmes, did anyone see the episode of SAS Who Dares Wins where they put headphones on the contestants and played distressing sounds through them to see how long they could endure it?

OP posts:
Pinksville · 09/03/2023 18:23

@Whitestar55 I reckon I could give the SAS a run for their money with the crap I've had to endure through my headphones today !!😅

nomadchild · 10/03/2023 11:49

@Whitestar55 😂😂😂😂your last comment has made my day !!!

Whitestar55 · 10/03/2023 14:04

They didn't stick it for long, the distress on their faces was almost as bad as ours!

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 10/03/2023 14:07

DICT8 is awful today. Not worth the stress for the pittance.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 10/03/2023 15:55

@Whitestar55 : I agree - had high hopes but was garbled inaudible rubbish. Done shopping on-line instead LOL

Frazzledbynature · 12/03/2023 14:23

We endured the trip up to leeds on the motorway on Friday, much better than enduring some of the echo chamber dictation going around.

Yeah, SAS? nothing compared to our ears!

Whitestar55 · 13/03/2023 12:40

There's not much work on DICT8 today. I wonder if they have lost contracts to competitors? I hope not.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 13/03/2023 12:44

@Whitestar55 - isn't it one of the doctors' strike days?

Whitestar55 · 13/03/2023 12:52

@Gally123 I think it is, but you wouldn't think it would affect DICT8 immediately. The amount of tasks have been decreasing for a while now anyway and with the fact that they don't seem to be doing anything to bring their system up to date in line with competitors I do wonder what's going on.

OP posts:
sijacks05 · 13/03/2023 12:54

All clinics cancelled for 3 days at the Trust I work for. Sure this will impact the lack of work.

Gally123 · 13/03/2023 12:54

@Whitestar55 - perhaps the Gremlins that affected Tpro last month have spread to DICT8...?

Whitestar55 · 13/03/2023 13:31

@sijacks05 That's definitely going to affect the amount of work, especially if telephones clinics are cancelled too.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 13/03/2023 13:33

@Gally123 Yes maybe DICT8 have been negotiating their contracts too, it doesn't seem like they've fared too well, but as we're kept out of the loop I suppose we can only guess.

OP posts:
Pinksville · 15/03/2023 14:35

Well it's pretty obvious who does the bulk of the work on the NHS if my empty list is anything to go by !!! It's like being back in COVID times !

sijacks05 · 15/03/2023 17:50

All clinics at our Trust have been cancelled for the Consultants as they were covering the wards. Should be back to normal tomorrow. Hopefully Dict8 will have some work by end of week.
