Hi, Here we go again, anyone else set up a new thread yet? Hope to find everyone 🙂

Well it's pretty obvious who does the bulk of the work on the NHS if my empty list is anything to go by !!! It's like being back in COVID times !

I'm not surprised really, I mean, how many letters actually go back complete? I can only imagine how time consuming it is to edit them, not particularly because of the poor dictation, but because of the lack of reference for the transcriber and the ever increasing amount of instructions to be put in the notes box.

I have found the above remote job while searching online if anyone is interested. I would love to work with a cooperative, although not in this particular role, but someone else may be interested. It does highlight the difference between the benefits offered by a cooperative as opposed to being exploited by as a so called 'self employed contractor' for a transcription company.

How much longer can transcription companies get away with low rates of pay? NHS lowest rate expected to be £11.45 an hour with the new pay dea, plus holiday and sick pay if course. Remote transcription is hardly feasible now.

Pinksville · 17/03/2023 11:33

@Whitestar55 I had no idea what the cooperative was on about as the language was alien to me 😂

danblack87 · 17/03/2023 11:36

It is definitely more than time for a hike in pay. We have been through COVID, inflation, cost of living crisis and now NHS strikes. You are right it not really feasible ... the amount of work is reduced, some dictation is diabolical and what we get paid goes little towards anything.

Thanks for the link, interesting company for what they do also. I've sent the link to my hubby, he maybe medically retired but he might be able to do this part-time as he's an ex-distribution manager and the money would be better than his ESA. Then I could look for real work too again. :) They are just asking for an extra day's work than I could give. The benefits trap is not an easy thing to work around. Even with the carer's allowance we've been billed more for council tax as a result of the back payment and proved we have more income than we told them. Though in fairness you can't if you don't know if you are going to be approved. In one hand out the other, hubby not pleased.

Whitestar55 · 20/03/2023 10:51

@Frazzledbynature Good luck with everything, it's all so complicated isn't it.

Hi, Cooperatives are owned and managed by the workers, who are called 'members', without a hierarchy as such, so salary and shares are usually equal, and in some cases where possible, the roles are shared.

OP posts:
Pinksville · 20/03/2023 18:42

@Whitestar55 yes the cooperative I got, it was just all the word salad around it that I found heavy going 😂

danblack87 · 21/03/2023 13:15

Weird morning my task list has tasks labelled to my Specialty but in fact from another Specialty. I typed one, completed and 'flagged' to Dict8 'as typed and sent - please check.' I hope that will be okay.

Whitestar55 · 21/03/2023 15:31

If I get a stray specialty that is clear enough, I just type it anyway and send it on its way. I don't inform them, I'm not paid to.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 21/03/2023 15:39

I do the same as @Whitestar55 , I get quite a few so just type them anyway 🥴

danblack87 · 21/03/2023 22:31

@Whitestar55 perhaps I should just to that in the future then - type and send as usual

danblack87 · 21/03/2023 22:37

ON the other hand there were lots of anomalies today ... if we do not flag things up how can we expect things to be sorted appropriately. Makes sense to me to 'flag'/avoid proof reader corrections? I don't know just made sense to 'flag' on this occasion.

danblack87 · 21/03/2023 22:44

Also a Task ascribed to an incorrect specialty, if no-one addresses, types or 'flags' blocks the task list - so, on this occasion as I know the specialty addressed (not my expertise but have knowledge) made sense to clear the task.

Gally123 · 22/03/2023 07:13

@danblack87 @Whitestar55 I have in the past often had wrong specialties, sometimes just a one off and there is one that occurs on a regular basis (it is one of my specialties, however comes up under another so I cannot really complain). I think it is often down to people logging into a system to dictate where possibly the person before has not logged off properly and so, for example if the previous clinic was diabetes and then dermatology comes along and dictates on a diabetes log in and your specialty is diabetes then it will end up in your queue. I think for one of the hospitals (Swindon) their private section all seems to use the same log in. It does seem weird to get different specialties when DICT8 are so adamant that to have access for typing people need to have typed it for several years in an NHS setting and be proficient. I think if it blocks your queue then it is worth flagging it up with DICT8 but if someone else seems to be able to type the letters - as happened once to me when I was blocked with lots of dental that was too technical for me to try - I was going to flag it but someone seemed able to cope and the letters gradually filtered through, so I did not mention anything.

Whitestar55 · 22/03/2023 08:55

I actually like getting stray specialties, they are often clearer than my own, and help to break the relentless monotony slightly.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 22/03/2023 10:17

It would be a pain, however, if a whole row of gobbledygook was hogging the list. That has happened when I once had another specialty added intentionally and I had to ask for it to be removed because the dictation was so bad and there were whole clinics of around 30 minutes on each task, it was a nightmare. The DICT8 system really does not make this job attractive, with their policy of 'type this or do nothing for hours until it clears somehow', so I agree sometimes its necessary to let them know.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 22/03/2023 11:04

Had another two tasks mis-labelled today; however, they are within my Speciality list so I just typed them and sent as usual. For ones not within my list I shall 'flag' to Dict8 ... seems the most sensible option to me.

Lovemydaxie · 22/03/2023 13:17

@Gally123 I regularly get dental files in one of my specialties. I usually type them but occasionally they are too technical and I then put them back and someone else must pick them up. I tend to have a go at the files whether they are mine or not, as long as I am confident I have typed them accurately.

Whitestar55 · 22/03/2023 18:16

Well I'm failing my SAS test today. I can't take anymore of the distorted twisted sounds coming through my headphones, WTF sort of job is this, it's more of a punishment, don't know whether to 😆or 😢😂😂

OP posts:
Pinksville · 23/03/2023 16:23

It's like wading through treacle on DICT8 today. The dictation on my task list seems to be coming through extra fast today, or may be it's me ? 🙄😴

Whitestar55 · 24/03/2023 10:18

There's not much work on DICT8 today, I wonder if they have lost contracts. How are things on Tpro?

OP posts:
Gally123 · 24/03/2023 10:27

@Whitestar55 I have found it less work with DICT8 this week but some of it has been better quality so typed more than usual. Tpro a bit hit and miss - there is work but not my specialties and stuff everyone seems to leave (eyes etc).

danblack87 · 24/03/2023 10:29

@Whitestar55 There is plenty of work on Dict8 for my specialties
