@carosel2 - it came through on their internal message system. I asked if the abbreviations listed (PPSN/NSII or VAT number) were the same as our UK UTR and was told yes. I have always included this and my NI number anyway.

Sometimes I find their internal messages a bit hit and miss, and I get them a day or two afterwards, or sometimes not until I go back and look and see if I have missed something. There was a message yesterday that only came to me this morning about the recent low workload levels.

nomadchild · 24/02/2023 12:11

@Gally123@carosel2 no it is not the UTR number and I would never give that to anyone that is your personal reference for you, your accountant if you use one and the tax office, do not put that on there. They are asking for yr NI number, they have asked for the Irish equivalent initially PPSI or some sort of thing. So I am unsure whether those of those registered for tax in England need to put our NI number on.

Gally123 · 24/02/2023 12:14

@nomadchild - I have always given my UTR number out to companies as proof I am self-employed as they cannot tell that from my NI number.

carosel2 · 24/02/2023 12:31

@nomadchild - oh right! Il wait for their email! 🤔@Gally123 Yes I got the email late yesterday afternoon. Did they say they are sharing it out better so no one cherry picks the better docs or am I reading too much in to this? I must say I have had some shockers! in different subjects too, which I really am struggling with. I dont mind typing different specialties if they are clear because you can at least fathom out what they say but with accents on an Irish accent well! 😅Still I have made a lot more with Tpro than Dict8 this month thats for sure

nomadchild · 24/02/2023 12:43

@carosel2 yes they said they are limiting how many we can ring fence it was endless before but now is just 3 which I think is fair. I am typing a lot of people i never got the chance to before as people were taking all the good tasks and ring fencing them. I find most of Tpro okay at the mo. There are shockers like there are everywhere but not the extent on Dict8. @Gally123 I have never had to give my UTR number to anyone. They can give our details to the HMRC who can check against our personal details eg name DOB and address and chase accordingly if not tax return is done. May be it is different in Ireland. I have had my NI number cloned before so I am very careful about giving our any personal details. I remember a colleague going for an interview in GOSH once where they wanted to photocopy her passport prior to interview on arrival. She refused as the the photocopier stored everything it copied and they could not safeguard that personal information adequately. When she brought this to HRs attention they were unaware. She said if she was successful she would let them have her passport number then but she still refused for them to copy it. Food for thought.

carosel2 · 24/02/2023 15:10

@nomadchild - Well that is better then, I never store any. I only use work in progress if I want to highlight something I'm not sure about and it is easy access to the letter by my team lead. Makes sense people not storing lots as its fairer on the rest of us. To be honest I have typed some quite decent lengthy dictation in new specialties which have been relatively easy when the docs clear as the characters mount up quicker and I can stop when I have reached my goal for the day 😊

Dunkindonuts8 · 25/02/2023 09:12

Morning everyone. I feel like this should be a very straightforward question to find the answer to, but it must be hidden somewhere! (Which is probably intentional and because I won't like the answer 🤣). How much do tpro and dict8 or accuro pay?

Chrissols · 25/02/2023 09:52

@Dunkindonuts8 Dict8 are 8p per line, lines consisting of 67 characters. I no longer work for Tpro, but when I did I was paid £0.011 per character typed. Accuro are dreadful, they start every transcriber on 45p per minute of dictation which is the lowest of any company I know and just about impossible to make minimum wage with them (I currently work for a company who pay 75p per minute for comparison).

Dunkindonuts8 · 25/02/2023 10:23

@Chrissols that's really helpful thank you! I won't be making my millions with them then 😂 Would you mind saying who you transcribe for now? Having read through some of these threads, it sounds like an excercise in endurance and patience to work for any of these companies!

Chrissols · 25/02/2023 10:33

@Dunkindonuts8 I actually have a few I can fall back on but two are- NJC who pay around 70p per minute of dictation and it's quite easy and clear work and they are always in need of transcribers, and Outsec but I don't think they're taking on at the moment.

danblack87 · 25/02/2023 14:55

@Gally123 I would never give out my NI number but have never faltered in giving my UTR number (self employed) /// am I wrong to do that? It's a Unique Tax Reference number why would anyone want to steal that? I'll ask my Tax Advisor

danblack87 · 25/02/2023 14:57

Further Dict8 require you to be self-employed with a registered tax code as required so I would have no hesitation in putting that number on any invoice to them.

danblack87 · 25/02/2023 15:12

As I recall in 1996 when I went for interview at NHS Trust they did take my passport for photocopying (a requirement for status cheques and police checks I believe) ... I never even thought about the implications of someone stealing my identify - very naive of me for sure.

danblack87 · 25/02/2023 15:12

sorry 'status checks' correction

Gally123 · 25/02/2023 15:29

@danblack87 - when you fill out a job application form it asks for your NI number and I have always included it on my CV. It proves you have the right to work in the UK and pay tax (if employed).

danblack87 · 26/02/2023 11:01

@Gally123 I have never been asked for NI Number before

Pinksville · 26/02/2023 12:23

@Chrissols what does NJC stand for, is it medical transcribing ?

Chrissols · 26/02/2023 16:30

@Pinksville NJS secretarial, a bit of medical, a bit of police etc.

EmilyJ23 · 26/02/2023 17:35

Chrissols · 26/02/2023 16:30

That rate is really good! its the best I have came across. Do you have to let NJC know in advance of when you would be available for typing or can you just update the system when available? I'm with Accuro and as you have said, the pay there is awful, but its the flexibility that I like about it. Just update the system how many minutes of dictation you want and what time you dont want work after. Also if your plans change, you just change this with no problems.

I have had a look at NJC site but cant seem to see anything about working with them.

Chrissols · 26/02/2023 17:44

@EmilyJ23 I haven’t worked for them for a few months due to being overloaded now, but when I was doing I just let them know at the beginning of the day if I was available and how much I wanted, there was never a shortage. A lot of it was one to one interviews and very clear, so even if you had never done that particular subject before it didn’t really matter as it was just straight forward typing onto the template provided.

Thanks! I might send them a message and see if they are taking on any new transcribers. No harm in trying x

Chrissols · 26/02/2023 18:25

@EmilyJ23 will keep my fingers crossed for you, they were lovely when I worked for them

EmilyJ23 · 26/02/2023 18:30

@Chrissols thanks 😊 I’ll let you know if they get back to me and what they say x

carosel2 · 26/02/2023 22:40
