Rage applied for a job and I've only gone and got a bloody interview

Rage applied for a job last week and the recruiter has been in touch this morning and I've an interview later today.

Any tips? I'll be suited and booted and I'm frantically researching the company.

Any ideas for good questions to ask at the end?

My last move was a rage application! Good luck!

I always want to know why the role is available and what the first week/month/six months would look like (or what they’d want me to achieve). Gives a good idea of whether I’m suited to the job.

Also, I think people like to talk about themselves so asking the panel why they like working there etc is always good I reckon.

I'm still traumatised from years ago, when I received interview feedback that I didn't ask any questions and subsequently didn't get the job. Of course, ever since then, I've made sure to ask the interview panel some questions! The below are a bit generic but gives a bit of framework on how you can 'interview the interviewer'

  • What are the challenges regularly faced in <name of team>?
  • What qualities are you looking for in the successful applicant?
  • What timescales are you working to for the role to be filled? What are next steps?
  • Can you tell me a little more about team already in place, roles etc?
  • Could you tell me a little bit about your background and how you came to be in your current role?

Thanks!! Counting down to 3pm ...

I ask the interviewer:
what a standard day and a standard year would look like in the role.
What the interviewer has found the most enjoyable and most frustrating aspects of working for the team.

These questions get the interviewer talking for a good while and give you a good look into the company.

Great examples below.
Good luck!

I did this once and ended up flying to Denmark for an interview at Lego. I didn't get the job but it was a brilliant experience off the back of what had been a slightly inebriated Friday evening push of the 'fuck it' button.

100% would recommend for the edge-of-your-pants feeling alone. Good luck!

My rage interview is the best job I've ever had.
Good luck

I love this concept! I've only fear/desperation applied before, good luck!

rageapplied · 04/10/2022 15:51

And now I wait ... first interview went well I think.

Is it a new role or an existing one. If existing why has the staff member moved on. If new what scope is there to shape the role.

rageapplied · 04/10/2022 16:05

New role. And it's like it's written for me.

Best of luck! Fair play to you for interviewing at such short notice, I would absolutely shit myself if I didn't have a week to prepare 😆

That must have been amazing!

There must be something in the water. I did a 'can't hurt to try/don't have anything to lose' job application at the weekend and received a call from the company director today which ended up turning into a mini phone interview. I've subsequently ended up being offered an interview on Thursday for two different roles as he thinks they can utilise my experience.

How wonderful and exciting that your 'rage application' has the potential to turn into a job, good luck!

OK, I am an old fart but what is "rage"?

You know when you’ve had a shit day, or your boss is being a twat, and you think “well fuck you all, I’m leaving!!!!” and apply for another job not thinking anything will come from it….

Angry and pissed off in current role, looked on job board saw job on way more money and seniority that I'd never normally have gone for and applied.

When you rage applied, how much effort did you go into with the application? Did it take hours tailoring everything?

good luck, hope you are successful

rageapplied · 04/10/2022 20:22

Absolutely none. No covering letter. Just fired in my cv I didn't even check it

Was it an actual interview, or the recruitment company filtering?

RedRed20 · 04/10/2022 20:25

Good luck.

I would only ask genuine questions you want/need to know. I’ve done lots of interviews and always hate it when interviewees ask some of the above suggested questions, especially if I’ve done a few that day. They are interviewing you not the other way round.

Interview with internal HR person. Second interview is on Monday.
