Judging by the way you have responded on here, it's probably best you steer clear of any job that requires contact with the general public.

UhtredRagnarson · 28/06/2021 18:32

OP you were rude before anyone else was rude on this thread. You need to check your own attitude.

iduno · 28/06/2021 18:54

I did Avon years ago as a teenager. My mum technically signed up and I did the work (well some of it 😂 she used to take it in to her work).

I didn't make a lot of money but I also didn't really go round houses getting sales. I did it for maybe a year or so. At that point I had to sell £50 a month before I got commission. Which I think was 20% and then if u sold over £100 u got 25% commission.

It basically paid for my make up and u g out clearance brochures where u cld get some bargains.

I looked in to doing it again about 20years ago and it has changed a lot and was absolutely not worth doing.

My mum still has lady her street that does it and she buys fairly regularly.

I also like the products but started buying online as was often better deals.

@thefamous5

I can see you'd do pretty well at a pyramid scheme tbf. Have the same level of personal and social skills as the average #bossbabe hun
Have you RTFT? The OP is having a tough time, no need to sneer.
SavoyCabbage · 28/06/2021 19:24

I'm sorry about your Mum Moondust. Thanks

I can understand why you would think Avon is an option, that's what they want you to think. They spend a fortune on persuading people that it's an easy way of making money.

IronTeeth · 28/06/2021 19:32

@Moondust1973

didnt say i was doing it i said i was considering it why do you think im asking for feedback from people who have sold for them yet all ive had is hostillity if youve got not nothing constructive to say say nothing at all
Surely the response tells you everything you need to know??
itsmeagainagain · 28/06/2021 19:46

@FinallyHere

It's a very crowded market.

I'm a big fan of the skin so soft dry oil as an insect repellant. It would never occur to me to buy though an agent when I can get it online direct from Avon or others including Amazon.

avon.uk.com

Hope you find some other options for your own business

@FinallyHere Thanks for the reminder! I’ve just ordered some for camping 😂 you make a good saleswoman 😂
motogogo · 28/06/2021 19:51

I've sold Avon (gave up when I moved 12 years ago so a bit out of date). I made about £300 a 3 week cycle profit and it wasn't too arduous earning it, 12 hours or so. But I was in a village with no shop so bit of a captive audience and had half a dozen particularly lucrative customers, and around 40 others most cycles

@bringincrazyback

Yes I did. She was bloody rude.

Lots of people go through tough times, they aren't rude/

Two wrongs don't make a right.

AutumnCrow · 29/06/2021 09:45

So is the 'Double Glammy' shite storyline in Corrie based on Avon? I presume it's supposed to warn us all of the perils - that these schemes promise the earth, but you end up in debt with no mates, that kind of thing.

Good luck with your course, @Moondust1973. It really sounds like much the better option.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/06/2021 09:47

I think it's based on The Body Shop/Avon/ there's another makeup brand that's really expensive,the name escapes me.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 29/06/2021 10:02

My sister was encouraged to do Partylite candles by her UC person. They actually told her it would get them off her back as far as looking for work went. What it did instead was she had to log the hours she spent doing parties, advertising them and promoting her 'business'. She has multiple health problems and if she missed a party or didn't put in enough hours on her log they were straight onto her. She ended up stopping doing it and now has a loft full of candles she is trying to get rid of. I think UC needs to be very careful as the appeal judge was not impressed during her DP process.

TheGenealogist · 29/06/2021 10:17

I don't watch Coronation St but I had heard they were doing a MLM storyline. I think that's really positive - big soaps have a huge audience and can tackle issues in a different way. Get the message across to people who wouldn't sit down and watch a documentary about it.

Cam2020 · 29/06/2021 10:31

lol no need to be contradictry you knew exactly what i meant judging by your responses so no need for the attitude

I think people get irritated because that's part if the recruitment/sales pitch and when people start regurgitating it, it means they've fallen for it hook, line and sinker.

Pinuporc · 29/06/2021 11:19

I think it's really irresponsible, dishonest, and in a way lazy, of job centre and universal credit mentors to advertise and push these as "jobs" or opportunities when I'm pretty sure most people would be worse off doing them.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 29/06/2021 11:43

I'm really shocked by some of the replies on here. I've bought Avon all my life...and as a pp said, I love that I can look thru a book, order, and pay on delivery. I have been a rep twice, and yes...it is more aggro than its worth, but they don't hassle you to recruit others, nor do they hassle you to buy samples and spend money on building a "business". You either make your sales to get your commission or you don't. Op...go for it if u want...it doesn't make u a lot of money, that's true, but it certainly doesn't do what most on here seem to think it does

Viviennemary · 29/06/2021 11:46

Avon has been going for decades. I've bought it in the past. Nobody I know sells it now. But I've never heard any complaints about their methods.

UhtredRagnarson · 29/06/2021 11:56

it is more aggro than its worth, but they don't hassle you to recruit others, nor do they hassle you to buy samples and spend money on building a "business".

Experiences clearly vary, you didn’t experience the above but others, including myself have. There absolutely was pressure to recruit a “team”.

UhtredRagnarson · 29/06/2021 12:02

Avon has been going for decades.

Not in its current model. The original model- lady selling door to door, among neighbours, friends etc. One lady per area. Days of no internet. Great. It was a great business model. But they’ve moved away from that. When they recruited me they literally knocked on every door in our town. My friend and I both signed on the same day and very quickly realised we would be competing over the exact same customers. Not only that, all our neighbours would be competing too. So if we’re all recruited- who are the customers? There are none- just reps. Reps who are being pressured to recruit their own team. From where? Everyone is already signed up as a rep. So suddenly you have a whole stack of women (it’s always women) who have to pay for this kit they were sold out of their own money because they have no one to sell to, and then they have to put in a minimum order amount to avoid getting a fine for not placing an order every campaign. It’s a total shitshow nowadays. It’s not the Avon that existed when we were kids.

Viviennemary · 29/06/2021 12:07

I'll take your word for it. Didn't realise it had changed from the old days.

YouokHun · 29/06/2021 20:14

I see you say you’re staying well clear @Moondust1973 - wise of you! This article is just published and it’s a very good sum up of the problem with Avon. www.talentedladiesclub.com/articles/is-avon-really-a-better-mlm/
All MLMs are terrible, not just Avon. Just for anyone else not familiar with MLMs (such as Avon, Body Shop at Home, Arbonne, Younique, Tropic, Juice Plus etc etc) there is a documentary on BBC iPlayer called The Secrets of the Multilevel Millionaires which is interesting and also there are other MLM articles on Talented Ladies Club and www.MLMtruth.org.

YouokHun · 29/06/2021 20:16

Sorry @TheGenealogist I’m repeating your link to TLC!
