I don't think you are a natural sales person....you obviously don't buy from them yet you want to sell it to others. You don't understand what an MLM is. so aggressive. good luck hun.

Moondust1973 · 28/06/2021 15:54

ok thanks jes ill look at other options then im just looking into things i can try

Well you have such a lovely way about you and fantastic interpersonal skills I’m sure people will be falling over themselves to buy from you when they could just buy online. Or from someone pleasant. Smile

Ohpulltheotherone · 28/06/2021 15:54

Honestly OP I don’t think it’s a great earner.
I buy a lot of cosmetics and make up and AVON isn’t a brand I’d personally use.

Back in the day before really good high street brands and online shopping AVON was probably a decent bet - but now women can easily buy cosmetics from so many places, there are excellent inexpensive brands in places like Superdrug. For those who like premium brands they won’t use AVON anyway as it doesn’t have the right branding or reputation.

So I’m not sure who your target market would be, I personally don’t know anyone who buys it.

Also if I did want to buy products I’d just go straight online. I recently bought some body shop bits from a lady who sells it, only bc I felt bad when she asked, the products were ok but honestly if I loved them I’d just reorder direct from the website or Amazon next day delivery.

Unless you have a huge amount of friends and family who are all interested in buying or you have access to a lot of women at groups and hobbies then I wouldn’t bother. You’ve got to make a lot of sales to see the financial benefit.

Is there anything else you could do from home using flexible hours?

Northernsoullover · 28/06/2021 15:55

I like Avon products so as MLMs go its not one of the worst. However, I didnt make a bean. You have to sell around 80 quids worth of stuff to start earning 20% commission. I made zilch. I ended up ordering products once I got near 80 quid so was drowning in Avon products for months. Its not worth the time and effort.

FinallyHere · 28/06/2021 15:55

It's a very crowded market.

I'm a big fan of the skin so soft dry oil as an insect repellant. It would never occur to me to buy though an agent when I can get it online direct from Avon or others including Amazon.

avon.uk.com

Hope you find some other options for your own business

Moondust1973 · 28/06/2021 15:56

colin im polite to people who are polite with me obviously people think they csn be rude on here yet dont like getting the same kind of response respects a two way thing

What's the market saturation like where you live? I'm in an East Midlands commuter village and we must have 7+ Avon reps. There are a few that have regular customers but there are loads posting on Fb about their catalgoue. We must have reached saturation point.

Moondust1973 · 28/06/2021 15:59

thank you to those who answered my question much appreciated im off going to enjoy the sun fir a bit

Honestly it's a bad idea.
I think the other posters were trying to gauge how much you spent on Avon to make the example that's it's not particularly popular right now. If you don't buy or use it in your daily life then you can't expect other people to, to an extent that you could earn a decent wage on the commission.
From experience- and I joined an MLM without knowing how ghastly they are - it doesn't make a lot of money, you end up alienating all your friends and acquaintances as you're so desperate for them to buy something. You might find a few customers who want something every few months and spend bloody ages chasing more orders to make up the MOQ and pay over the odds in postage.

It was sold to me by a woman making it seem like she got to travel the country seeing her lovely customers - when in reality she was chasing round trying desperately to get people to sign up.

The early bird caught the worm- and made a tonne of money already- it won't be you.
Please look into it before you jump!

VodselForDinner · 28/06/2021 15:59

I think you should go for it.

itmustbewinetime · 28/06/2021 16:03

My cousin tried it for a few years. Made a little bit of pocket money but that's about it, it's not a business.

I also don't know anyone who actually buys it who doesn't buy it as pity from a friend or family member, it's so outdated and old fashioned. And judging by some of the 'Avon ladies' i've seen they clearly don't even use any of the products.

Thehenbunringsock · 28/06/2021 16:21

No one is being rude to you.

KungFuPrincess · 28/06/2021 16:25

I disagree with previous posters... Avon isnt an MLM as you dont have to buy products to sell on and you dont recruit people. I buy lots of Avon and my lady only orders what people ask her to order, then she gets a discount or a small commission from what people order.

You can also go and order directly from their website which is about as far from an MLM as you can get.

I like the products although I know they are not for everyone. I also dont sell it, I buy from a family friend.

VodselForDinner · 28/06/2021 16:27

Ok, I posted facetiously and should not have done so.

@Moondust1973, I’ve had a look at your other recent posts and, with kindness, I think you’re in quite a vulnerable position right now, and probably desperate in terms of needing to find work.

I’m sorry, that sounds absolutely shitty.

MLM schemes like Avon often target people who are vulnerable and make them think they’re going to make a lot of money and own a business the sad truth is that the vast majority (there’s research, think it was something like 97%) of people lose money. Very, very few people make money. Like, a teeny tiny percentage.

It can also be very isolating as you will be pushed to pressure friends and neighbours to become customers and that can damage relationships.

I would never recommend that someone ever joins an MLM company like Avon, Bodyshop at Home, Forever Living, Juice Plus etc.

walkoflifewoohoo · 28/06/2021 16:27

Nah, don't bother. MLM and also to be a great salesperson you need basic manners and social skills.

Roselilly36 · 28/06/2021 16:34

I know a couple of women, who have tried it for a few weeks, both gave it up. I know one had hassle with people ordering and not having the money when she went to deliver or pretending they were out!

TheQueef · 28/06/2021 16:39

The problem with Avon is they didn't start as an MLM.
Way back you could make a bit of money and I think Avon has kept that reputation.
Now it is as bad as the others.

UhtredRagnarson · 28/06/2021 16:42

Avon isnt an MLM as you dont have to buy products to sell on and you dont recruit people.

You absolutely do recruit people! That’s what the whole thing is about. You yourself will have been recruited.

SprayedWithDettol · 28/06/2021 16:47

I don’t buy Avon, but a quick google shows that it can be bought online, so I really can’t see what added value a rep brings to the deal. I’m not sure it is worth your while.

RoseMartha · 28/06/2021 16:54

No. I did it when the kids were toddlers earned £20 a week. Not worth it.

What @VodselForDinner said. You really need to avoid Avon and other MLMs. Is your work coach helping you at all? What's happened about the course you were going to do?
drpet49 · 28/06/2021 17:02

Serious question here- why would people bother to order from a sales rep when they can just do it themselves online? I don’t see why reps are still needed in this day and age.

The reps aren’t needed for customers. The reps are needed for Avon because the reps are the customers. (Unwittingly)
