But also the people I knew who sold Avon soon quit because it wasn't making them any money. Also some reps are extremely pushy and insist on putting constant brochures through the door even when you tell them that you're not interested and never will be

Bluesheep8 · 28/06/2021 17:31

Serious question here- why would people bother to order from a sales rep when they can just do it themselves online? I don’t see why reps are still needed in this day and age.

I love Avon products and never shop on line, always buy them from a woman at work. I just like looking through the book better than looking on line. I like paying for my order when It's received rather than when It's ordered. Im very old fashioned though!

Even up front, Avon and its 'ambassadors' admit the only way to make money is to recruit other reps and skim their profits. www.join-my-cosmetics-team-debbiecarter.co.uk/multilevel-marketing-avon

midnight the "course' my jobcentre advisor wanted to put me on i was initially told that it was to help with my anxietty and confidance i was told that it wasnt compulsery there would never be any pressure with it i agreed to do it then got a note in my universal credit journal from same advisor telling me that this course would also help me find work and consider work that i had never considered before i then get a letter from the company who do the course telling me if i was unable to make appointments withthem ihad to notify them as well as give them a reason for not making appointment i would then have to contact my uc advisor and do the same with them so seems strange im being told its to help with anxiety and confidance until i agree to do it then i find out otherwise i tell my uc advisor i wasnt happy as i felt i had been manipulated into it i then got told that as taxpayers money provide these courses iwould be expected to fully engage and do as i was asked i could see the direction this was going he was upping the pressure for me to find work although i had told him i was suffering from anxietty as i had just lost my mother who had a long term ilness and i had cared for mentally and emotionnaly i was exhausted so i explained sitation to my dr who was more understanding i got a sickline from her until middle of next month but my first appointment is with the same advisor ive tried explaining to his manager i feel unconfortable dealing with him as he seems to be concerned about targets rather than empathising with clients i also find him devious in how he goes about things but the manager couldnt care less

MLM.
You will earn more money in a minimum wage job for the amount of hours you put it.
You will annoy the fuck out of your friends and family.

Viviennemary · 28/06/2021 17:41

Somebody must buy it as it's been going a long long time. Dont think it would be worth it unless you only need to earn a few pounds.

thefamous5 · 28/06/2021 17:42

Lol at it being your own business.

It's not.

@Moondust1973

didnt say i was doing it i said i was considering it why do you think im asking for feedback from people who have sold for them yet all ive had is hostillity if youve got not nothing constructive to say say nothing at all
Well here’s my advice . Don’t go sticking your bloody catalogue through my door.
LemonDrizzles · 28/06/2021 17:59

I buy Avon, I have a handful of products I use. I always try to buy from local people but they honestly don't respond so I have to give up and buy from ebay.

As a previous poster said, it all depends if your Facebook circle or local neighbours already have products they are interested in buying.

For entrepreneurs, you can research good housekeeping articles that continue to list Avon products as best buys; analyse some ebay listings to gauge popular products/consider gifting samples of these to close relatives to see if they'd convert; try to avoid investing in stock; put in a little time every few months to do orders

All the best

imacuddler · 28/06/2021 18:07

Hey op sounds like you have had a tough time.
Would you have to spend money to set up with Amazon?

Do you, your friends and family already buy there products?
Where is your nearest person who's sells it too?
As an alternative have you read the mumsnet £10 a day thread? Lots of ideas on how to make a little money on there.
We made some money on Prolific which is a survey site I would recommend.

imacuddler · 28/06/2021 18:07

*Avon not Amazon! Sorry!
Also good luck 👍

Talented Ladies Club take on Avon:

Long story short - it's not different from any other MLM, even though they claim it is.

My mum makes a regular purchase of Avon products, she likes the product, getting a catalogue and making her choices. She is elderly and enjoys the social contact , chatting at the door with the Avon lady. So I think being sociable and friendly is important as a sales person. They do have. some good products, I think their nail varnishes are good and I will occasionally add to my mums order. I think it’s about building a regular customer base. My friend has been doing it for years, it gives her a small income but it took her a while to build up her regular customers and word of mouth helped. For me I would rather have my regular part time job, it gives me a regular guaranteed income, sick pay etc which being an Avon rep does not give. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

thefamous5 · 28/06/2021 18:17

I can see you'd do pretty well at a pyramid scheme tbf. Have the same level of personal and social skills as the average #bossbabe hun

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 28/06/2021 18:20

Having read your update I'm not sure it's the right thing for you. There will be pressure and targets to meet and you will have to do lots of speaking to strangers to push the products as you will soon exhaust your friends and family as customers.
If you do decide to still go for it despite what people have said on here then be very sure you know what the ask is. My friend did it and was £2 off the set target in her first month and missed out on all her commissions and "free" starter set

Sillyduckseverywhere · 28/06/2021 18:21

I block friends that get into this crap.
I unblock them when they are out of money and give up.
Don't do it

Theunamedcat · 28/06/2021 18:22

The only person i know who makes money from mlm rotates them so in diet season she flogs the shakes Christmas is gifting year round its wax melts etc (who wants a nice smelling home!) She never just sells one thing and she posts everyday

Orf1abc · 28/06/2021 18:24

Hi Moondust, I remember your post about losing your mum and wanted to say, I hope you're OK. I wouldn't recommend Avon or any other MLM scheme, but I know how difficult it is when you're doing your best to get back into work after being a carer.

Please take care of yourself, and as some on here are being very unkind, I'd be inclined to step away from the thread and leave them to it.

Moondust1973 · 28/06/2021 18:24

i ehadcofee not going to do avon ill look at other options thanks for info im staying well clear

You have to achieve the MINIMUM ORDER VALUE (MOV) before the commission is paid to you. Once you have achieved the minimum order value you then receive £1 for every £5 (20%) of sales that you make. Once you achieve the HIGHER ORDER VALUE (HOV) you are then paid £1 in every £4 (25%) of sales that you make. Out of that you have to buy the catalogues, bags etc for deliveries. I have tried it and it’s good in the run up to Christmas but after that sales dropped right off. Not very good during the summer because people are going on holidays etc. I found delivering items a bit of a pain because people weren’t in and I had to go back. I didn’t make much money from it

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/06/2021 18:26

Stay clear of The Body Shop too.
