Cook in a pub in the 70s with a largely gay clientele. Student job 4x a week.
So I was done by 9.30pm, which left time for clubs and parties, and the guys were busy checking each other out and weren’t interested in lewd conversations and grab ass with me.
And I ate for free on days I worked.

Early years practitioner.
Such high job satisfaction.
Such low pay (nmw) and respect.

I once had a student holiday job in a small local factory making those hanging twig decorations for the body shop. I was promoted off piece rate onto an hourly rate.

I worked in a lovely stately home. Amazing job! It consisted of showing lovely old ladies round and talking about the paintings and reading novels for the hours a day we had no visitors. Minimum wage though!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/01/2021 16:57

Strawberry picking when I was a young teen. 30p a punnet me and my friends would go early morning, finish up just after lunch with about £13 cash in hand, a punnet of fresh strawberries and a small pot of cream. End of season was less fun when we were picking gooseberries and black currants.

Working in the local pub, no fancy food or anything just a good old fashioned pub

SnugglySnerd · 10/01/2021 16:58

Working at the stables as a holiday job as a teenager. I was paid in free riding lessons. I learned so much and loved every minute, even in the freezing cold!

StealthPolarBear · 10/01/2021 16:59

Waitress in an Italian restaurant. Great boss, loved the customers and atmosphere.

AmandaHugenkiss · 10/01/2021 17:01

Kennelmaid and dog groomer. Loved that job! £1.66 an hour 😂

SallyTimms · 10/01/2021 17:02

Working behind bar of local pub. Worked with good friends, we didn't (overall!) fall for any nonense, had a blast, got to know the regulars. It was an eye opener as to what men were like, as they drank after work on a Friday, or all the young blokes plotting their night out. Loved it and would go back in a heartbeat to those times.

I was a care assistant for a few years when I was in my twenties. I loved listening to all the life stories - so many funny, fascinating people.

Timeforabiscuit · 10/01/2021 17:08

Maintenance worker at an upmarket caravan park in Cornwall as a student.

Early waking to clear the private beach, then bin run and maintenance work.

Afternoon body boarding and sunbathing.

Parky04 · 10/01/2021 17:08

Building houses in Fiji. Board only. Best 18 months of my life.

I worked in a bookshop when I was 17 and then would go back during university holidays. Loved every minute. If it paid more then I would've stayed forever.

LubaLuca · 10/01/2021 17:14

I worked in HMV when I was a student, in the days when buying records was a big part of people's lives. I absolutely loved it.

LittleBrownBaby · 10/01/2021 17:14

Working in a cinema. Saw all the films for free and ate popcorn all day. It's only busy for short periods.

Buttercupcup · 10/01/2021 17:14

I worked in a small golf club in the summer holidays, through the week it was mostly the seniors/regulars and I made tea and coffee and chatted to all these lovely grans and grandads. We had a few characters and it was such a nice job £3.50 per hour and as many cups of tea and biscuits as I wanted.

Threekneerepeater · 10/01/2021 17:15

Fruit picking. Hard work, but great fun and an amazing tan.

CrappyNewYear2021 · 10/01/2021 17:17

Assistant at an estate agents. My job was to do all the weekend viewing. So I got paid to driving around listening to the radio and look at people’s houses!
