I get £13,00 a year pro rata doing full time, works out pre tax around £700 a month, 30 hrs a week.
Get more if you do special needs. I get paaid in the holidays as well but not all ta's are.

What course are you thinking of doing ?

it's one morning a week for a yr ,plus voluntary placement of a minimum of 4hrs but preferably more/week

The course costs £400 so need to be sure I want to do it.

I'm doing a Btec level 2 with ICS its £50 a month you do it at your own rate and dont have to be in a school.

You dont need a qualification to become a TA, might be worth trying to get a position first and then getting the LA to help with funding.

don't know the figue, but I do know it isn't enough for what they do.......

I get £7452.89 per annum for working a 20 hour week (pro rata to £15440.00 for a full time appointment).

The money isn't great

Its a home study company and they are good, you can work in your own time and have access to a tutor and support network. The website is ics.co.uk but if want to do it let me know because I have an offer to get money from them.

No, I applied for a job just after I got the course hadn't started. The school I work for were more intrested in who I was that what courses I have done!

Look on the council web site it normally lists vacancies. Another way in is to do an admin role while doing course and volunteer to help i after schools clubs or if a TA is off. We have a lot of parents who started off as parent helpers and became TAs.

Do you have any kids at school ? Thats often a good starting point.

I couldnt do much volunteering as I was working full time but I managed to get odd days to go on trips.

The school i am at though is not the one ds goes to!

My ds has just started in reception.

I have approached teacher to offer my help and she said she's organising parent helpers soon and would be grateful for readers,so hopefully when I get my foot in the door...

I have started other voluntary stuff at the school aswell ,milk,fruit ,cooking etc.

I am concerned about how I would logically work at another school considering we'd both have to start and finish at more or less the same time.

How do you manage it?

Im lucky my friend helps out with drop offs and pick ups. But you could look at breakfast clubs and after school clubs ?

Primary seem to be paid more than secondary in my (limited) experience. The money is pants - well mine is anyway!
I've done the BTEC Level 2 qualification, but to be honest, its not (so far) got me any higher up the ladder at school - but then again, my school is notoriously bad at giving people a decent wage....

What scale are you on Whizzz? Most of our TAs are on Scale 3 and get paid 52 weeks of the year atm, which is the same as me.
Of course I work harder than they do

I am a lowly Level 1 despite my qualification but it's all going to hit the fan soon as we have been put down for 1 cover lesson a week....just think of the money they are saving
