Started a fixed term contract early last year which was due to end in June 18. Contract Kept getting extended as it was a secondment. The role holder who was seconded (promotion) could not get a permanent role due to recruitment freeze and thus they could not offer the role to me permanently. So every time her secondment got extended so did my contract. Final extension was until May 2019. Submitted my MAT b1 form in December 18 and received an acknowledgment letter stating I will receive enhanced maternity. Please note, when form was submitted my contract end date was May 19. Maternity started March19 and my boss posted my job for a replacement in Feb. It was my belief the contract will be extended as it's a role that's still required and the role holders has made it clear they have no intention of coming back to the job. A colleague applied for the role as a cover. I received an email this week stating my contract has not been extended due to recruitment freeze??? And I won't receive the enhanced maternity package even though the acknowledgement letter stated I would. Called HR and they are investigating how I got the letter??? Further to this I was advised to proceed with a dismissal case as it's clear contract was not extended due to maternity. Gosh, why deal with this whilst taking care of my precious

Just bumping this for you OP, in hopes an expert on employment law will be along soon.

In the meantime, you might have to look at our pages on your rights on mat leave here.

Good luck with it all!
