Perso25 · 02/01/2018 23:07

8am-12am used to be common in my younger fast food days Sad

ScreamingValenta · 02/01/2018 23:08

12 hours is my limit.

watchedfrozentoomanytimes · 02/01/2018 23:08

7.30am to 11pm
Teacher. Night before Ofsted.

urbanrock · 02/01/2018 23:10

22 hours.

YassQueen · 02/01/2018 23:10

12.5 hours.

12 hours is the standard shift where I work. The extra .5 was an over-run.

RestingButchFace · 02/01/2018 23:12

21 hours, then straight on the beer at 6 am. Huge group of us.

StupidSlimyGit · 02/01/2018 23:14

16 hours, did it regularly for a while, wasn't worth the money.

Veronicat · 02/01/2018 23:14

16 hours with no break. It was bloody horrible.

Mxyzptlk · 02/01/2018 23:15

24 hours. I did get a bit of a kip, tho.

A tiny care home in the middle of nowhere, night staff were snowed in so day staff had to stay.

Appraiser · 02/01/2018 23:16

10am - 2am, then back on at 11am next day.

Wedding function, there for set up, sit down meal, evening do, bar and set down / up for a function the following day. Was pooped!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/01/2018 23:19

Teacher - if you count residentials, then 2 and a half days.

Medwaymumoffour · 02/01/2018 23:19

Not really a shift as working in a corporate office. 7am till 4am the next day only going home, picking up the kids as a break at almost months pregnant. Got signed off work a few days later.

Told my boss I couldn’t work over the weekend and reply was that I didn’t have to but my Work had to be finished so kind of my choice maybe as I had family plans over the weekend. Was the last day I have ever worked......

DustyMaiden · 02/01/2018 23:19

27 hrs in 7 Eleven

eastlondoner · 02/01/2018 23:23

I did an epic shift as a nurse when the whole place was snowed in and no staff could get on. Started 7:30am on Thursday and finished 7:45pm on the Friday. Zero sleep and a LOT of coffee. Was when I worked in a psychiatric unit.

Spockster · 02/01/2018 23:24

56 hours, one weekend in every 3 as a junior doctor in the ‘90s. Total hours varied between 80 and 120 a week. Just as horrendous as it sounds.

UnitedKungdom · 02/01/2018 23:24

Sometimes if I had a pitch we'd be in from 8am to 5 am, home for a quick shower and fresh clothes then a full day from 8- maybe 10pm. Most days I worked from 9-9 ish but often till 1am or so. It was very common in my industry.

PitilessYank · 02/01/2018 23:24

28 hours, starting at 5pm one evening and finishing at 8pm the next evening.

80sMum · 02/01/2018 23:25

About 10 years ago, I once worked from 2.30am until till 5.30pm. That's the most I've done in one day. That same month, I worked for 31 consecutive days. The longest working week I have ever done was 82 hours!

PitilessYank · 02/01/2018 23:25

Woops, finishing at 9pm.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 02/01/2018 23:25

Not shift so much but when I was in the City and a deal was closing, got called in at about midday on Sunday and went home at 6pm on Monday when the drafts were drafted, the lawyers were happy and everything was signed. I had to be on a 7.30 flight on the Tuesday morning 're another deal. My brief foray into corporate finance.

Mumsymcmumface · 02/01/2018 23:25

42 hours.

IT. When you are the only ones who can fix something and it needs fixing or 400 people can’t work then it just needs fixing.

That was 20 odd years ago. Procedures, information sharing etc wouldn’t allow that situation to arise now but the body is an amazing thing when stuff just needs doing. We just plodded on and did it in fairly comfortable surroundings. Look at 91,and no end of natural disasters around the world to see how the human body can really step up when needed and make people who sings about a 12 hour shift look a bit pathetic.

cloudchasing · 02/01/2018 23:25

I do an 18hr shift every Saturday, and another 6 hours on the Sunday. My choice mind, but I'm getting too old.

DdJames · 02/01/2018 23:27

I once messed up my shifts and ended up doing a hospital night shift from 1930- 0800 then had to drive straight to my nanny job for what was meant to be a short day. Until it snowed and it ended up taking me 7.5 hours to get home. I got home at 2200. Buzzing off my tits from having too much lucozade and beef hula hoops in the car.

Other than that my normal shifts are 12.5 hours, most they've run over by is a couple of hours.
