Cafe/Cake Shop name ideas!

I've found a great location for a business I've wanted to start for years. For the past few weeks I've been putting ideas together to make it a reality, but I'm stuck on the name!

I think I'd like the name to focus more on the cake side, and sound classy or luxurious (the cakes will be, and suits the location) and less focussed on the cafe side as it'll be more about the baked items but a small lunch menu will be available.

Avoiding names to do with tea rooms or coffee, and not keen on having the word cafe in the title. Not asking for much am I? Grin

One I came across that I liked is "The Cake Kitchen", it sounds more modern and more interesting than a cafe I feel. What do you think?

Possibly "Rachel's Cake Kitchen"? I don't mind sharing my name as I've name changed! I've added a logo idea that I found online, and I think this name would look good in a similar style?

I'd love something that sounds modern and high end.
Does anybody know any great names that I could learn from?

Any ideas or opinions would be great!

Would anyone be willing to give me some help or advice with menu ideas?

My first option is to sell my baked goods only and not offer a lunch menu,

Or

Offer a small lunch menu that are all cold foods such as sandwiches. In a perfect world I don't think I'd offer a lunch menu but I think it'll be a necessary part of the business so people can come for dinner and have a treat afterwards.

I need a small selection of easy to prepare (I don't want to be cooking meals all day as my passion is the cakes etc) but high quality options but I can't think of anything other than really nice sandwiches served with salad and fancy crisps.
I make great pizzas etc but I don't really want to be making pizzas all day (although I'm considering having one late evening a week where I serve food eventually)

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice in this area?

I can come up with a great selection of sweet treats but I'm struggling to come up with a good but small selection of lunch options!

If possible I think I'd do a couple of hot dishes but simple. Avocado on toast with poached eggs is really nice. And say roasted goats cheese on toast with chutney is also very tasty. And wouldn't be too difficult if you had somebody to help.

Sandwich fillings. The usual ones tuna mayo, chicken tikka. But you could try a few more unusual ones and see how they go. And soup of the day with nice hot bread. Oh sounds too exciting I wish it was me. Grin

I think your original plan is sound, just make sure you offer a selection of hot drinks. Coffee is a multi million £ industry- people will spend a lot on your treats and cakes with a drink.
I wouldn't focus on lunches. Unless you're running a restaurant, people won't be looking to go to yours to have dinner and then cake.
For light lunches and snacks, smashed avocado bagels, paninis, sausage rolls, artisan pizzas served cold or possibly reheated. Definitely keep the focus on your baked goods though.

If I ever opened a cake shop it would 100% be called Cake Sniffers!

bookbook · 23/09/2017 22:35

I will often order a piece of quiche with salad . May be too much baking with the cakes as well though
Fresh sandwiches
Welsh rarebit
Soup

badbadhusky · 23/09/2017 22:36

What about baked savouries, so you're not going too far off-piste? Eg sausage rolls, veg equivalent, quiches - individual & large, crusty roll & soup of the day, savoury scone cream tea. All of those are things people could eat in or take-away, including cartons of soup. Ability to pre-order a big quiche may work really well for people wanting a "homemade" light lunch option for entertaining. If they don't show up, you can sell it by the slice. Lunch-to-go options will increase footfall if you are in an area with offices & they may be tempted buy other treats. Keep it simple. Alternatively, when you are running your big ovens, could you bake jacket spuds on a tray in the bottom?

dolphinbbq · 23/09/2017 22:42

I loved the idea of build your own cake as mentioned above... (probably was a joke) in a subway sense of having bit of control of what you are getting.

Would probably call it the filling station 😂

badbadhusky · 23/09/2017 22:47

Riffing on the build your own cake idea, could you have a suggestion box for cake ideas, then get folk voting for a shortlist on social media and have a week when it's on sale, a bit like when Walkers ask the public for crisp ideas?

Bravas · 23/09/2017 22:48

Offer a take out option too. We have 'The Bakehouse' locally but really wish they did takeaway, I would call in lots more if they did.

dolphinbbq · 23/09/2017 22:55

We have a local shop who do cake delivery, usually 3 different slices of cake for £7 or a “pick and mix box” of tray bakes/cheesecakes/cupcakes which is a great idea if catering for people with different tastes

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 23/09/2017 23:13

Ooh we are in Yorkshire and I love a bit of cake! Let us know where when you are up and running.
I was going to suggest something like 'Bakeologist' or 'cakeologist' to emphasise the experimental side but I do like 'the golden whisk'.

A lower fat but still tasty version of classic cakes would be amazing. Or cakes with veggies in. They always make me feel like I'm being good, when I'm not really.

badbadhusky · 23/09/2017 23:52

Oh yes, I agree with fruity or veggie cakes. You can lie to yourself that your cake counts as one of your 5 a day. Grin

ShmooBooMoo · 23/09/2017 23:56

I was going to suggest Queen of Tarts before I read your OP.

A Slice of Heaven (with a cake illustration to make it obvious!)

mollysfriend · 24/09/2017 00:00

I'd buy cake from a shop called Cakery

mollysfriend · 24/09/2017 00:00

Cake boutique?

KenBarlow · 24/09/2017 20:40

Some fantastic ideas, thank you so much!
Bagels are a great idea and I love the sound of the goats cheese on toast etc. What kind of chutney would you say Vivienne?

They're just the sort of thing I was looking for, simple to make but a bit of a selection.
Thank you!

So possibly sandwiches, bagels, goats cheese on toast, soup and a bread roll.

I think the suggestion box for different cakes is a great idea.
And I'll definitely share when it's open and running!

Maybe your cake suggestion box could give people the chance to revive a family recipe that no-one in the family has the skill to recreate (subject to them being OK to you using it in future if its hit) & create some social media buzz around the suggester coming over to taste the first batch to see if you hit the mark with "Nana Jean's special fruitcake."

KenBarlow · 25/09/2017 09:53

Nice idea Husky!

Anyone care to share their favourite sandwich fillings? I'm not much of a sandwich person and tend to have ham and cheese every time so I'm unsure what people like!

I'm veggie I like

Stilton and cranberry sauce
Hummus and carrot
strong cheddar and beetroot chutney
Roasted pepper and avocado
Fried egg and brown sauce

Needalifeoverhaul · 25/09/2017 10:56

Ooh, could you do a white chocolate and ginger cheesecake too...and mail order? Grin
Btw, my favourite name our of the suggestions is The Cake Kitchen

KenBarlow · 25/09/2017 11:02

Great suggestions!!

I think the plan is to have around 4 cold sandwich fillings served with salad and crisps

Then a range of toasted bagels with fillings, I was thinking pizza bagels, goats cheese and chutney, smoked salmon with cream cheese? All things I can buy the ingredients in and make them when needed.

Thinking to make two types of soup and serve with a bread roll.

What do you think to this? Not wanting to over complicate it but also want it to be a good menu!
