Nose piercing/dress code

Wondering if someone could offer advice.

My work dress code states no tattoos or piercings.

Can I be sacked for having my nose pierced if I take it out during work hours? Surely they can't sack me for having my nose stud in outside of work?

The only trouble is that if you don't keep it in permanently for about six weeks the hole will heal itself.

And yes I would sack you if you had signed a contract involving no piercings and then came in with one anyway.

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:20

Ah crap. That's what I thought. I was hoping to hide it during working hours.

Any chance of a clear six week holiday? That's about the only way you could do it! Even then it's pushing it...

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:23

Total chance of that.
Just worried now that I've made a huge mistake.

Put a tiny plaster over it and say you have a big spot??

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:24

A constant one?! Hmmm!

Take it out for work and put it back in during the evening.

I've had my nose pierced for 11 years and I've worked in food where I had to take it out for work. Mine hasn't healed up.

LockedOutOfMN · 17/07/2017 21:24

Do what OatcakeCravings said.

16middlenames · 17/07/2017 21:25

Oh and to answer your question, no they can't sack you for having a tiny empty hole in your nose. It's the jewellery they object to.

PlaymobilPirate · 17/07/2017 21:25

What's the industry? Could you ask to be allowed to wear a clear one just until it heals?

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:26

My plan was to take it out during the day and just hope it doesn't close up. I only work sessions so it'll be out for only a few hrs at a time

Get a clear plastic bar to wear during work til it heals. Lots of body piercers stock them or can order them. Once it's healed you'll be able to leave it out for a few hours without it closing.

HoneyDragon · 17/07/2017 21:30

You can get flesh coloured studs.

Although I've worked in several places that have no piercing / tattoo policies and have never been asked to remove them or myself Smile

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:31

Education, so they're pretty strict

I haven't wore a nose stud for about 13 years. Still hasn't healed.
Unless you've signed a disclaimer stating that you have no existing piercings they can't sack you.
They can sack you for refusing to remove it during working hours and I'm pretty sure they can ask you not wear it too and from work if you wear a company uniform.

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:33

Definitely not signed a disclaimer stating no previous piercings.
Other people in our work have tattoos and they've never said anything, but my face has never fitted so I suddenly thought that I may have just handed them a reason on a plate.

My boss told me (customer facing role) they can't stop you wearing nose studs because some cultures require some people to wear them. Don't know how true it is or that could just be our own company policy. They are pretty strick on tattoos and other facial piercings though and unnatural looking hair colour

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:35

You're all being very helpful. Thank you.
Just to make it clear to everyone - I won't be wearing a visible piercing at work as that's unprofessional. I was just worried that they could sack me for having it done at all and wearing nose studs in my own private life.

They seem like ridiculous conditions to me!

PlaymobilPirate · 17/07/2017 21:37

Eh? I'm a teacher and have a nose stud. My manager has visible tattoos

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:38

Our place won't allow them :(

Summerisdone · 17/07/2017 21:41

I had my nose pierced for a month, then I got a job working in a kitchen so had to take it out for work and it healed up after an 8 hour shift.

When I asked them at the piercing place why it healed so soon, they told me I'd need it in for about 6 months before I was able to remove it for such a long period of time.

LockedOutOfMN · 17/07/2017 21:51

I'm a teacher and we're not allowed any piercings except for one pair of studs in the earlobes and only for women. No visible tattoos. Men are not allowed to wear make-up!

cailyaclara · 17/07/2017 21:54

So what about if you just don't wear a stud? Surely you can't be sacked for having a tiny hole?
