Boss texting me when on holiday

My boss texted me to ask me to get the DX post in my way in (legal firm).

However I'm on holiday and back tomorrow and he knows that! So does my colleague!

I don't like this company generally but would this piss you off a lot? I just texted back saying I'm on holiday and back tomorrow as per my holiday leave form.

So does he want you to pick the DX post in on the way in tomorrow?

If he meant could you pick it up on the way in tomorrow (and it wasn't out of my way, or an unusual request for my role, no, it wouldn't bother me at all.

No - it was for today - this morning!

Wouldn't bother me if it was tomorrow and I don't collect it generally anyway, he does.

Surely he means pick it up tomorrow on your way in?
I don't think that's an unreasonable ask if its on your route and you've done it before.

Wouldn't bother me either. He doesn't actually want anything from you until you're back tomorrow (if I'm reading this right). Plus it sounds like it might be a smallish firm if there isn't another arrangement for picking up/delivering DX, so everyone should muck in.

It meant he completely forgot about my holiday when it ended, and I know my evil co-worker boss will be hissing over this.... until I say tomorrow, well actually, I was due back TODAY not yesterday.

Then maybe he just forgot over the weekend. I still don't think I'd be pissed off.

So maybe he just forgot that you were not in today. Do you and him not get on ?

TheHouse - no it was for today - he texted me at 6am saying for me to get DX today on my way in.... but I flew back today.

He doesn't ask for it to be collected day before. never done that.

and he has forgotten before, about the day I fly back (as I often do Easyjet and cheaper to fly on Monday rather than weekend).

I'm being petty though.

Hi everyone - long story - co-worker bullied me, my boss takes me for granted and is a hard taskmaster.

I just get annoyed because before now he's rung me when on holiday.... and off sick.

He clearly forgot. It's not as if he actually expected you to come in on your day off. It was a mistake.

Doitforme - generally we do get on - but he is very much in league with evil co-worker who bullied me, it's a toxic, small office and really I need to leave!

He picks up DX generally in mornings... that's fine. but evil co-worker, does same job as me, been there longer, she rarely does it (delivers in evenings) unless it conveniences her, for shops etc... That does irk me somewhat but I'm used to it.

Sounds like you already know what you need to do. Leave!

If my boss did this, I would know he was just having a senior absent-minded moment and we would laugh about it.

But it doesn't sound like your boss is much like my boss, so I can understand why it needled you.

Petshop - apologies - I'm just back from holiday where I had time to think on this...

I did have an interview with possible 2nd interview coming up (it may not be perfect job though) and other openings so it's just spurred me on to leave!

Super you need to get a new phone for personal and private use, that you pay for yourself.

Leave your work phone in the drawer in your desk.

Send an email around with the information that your work phone will stay in the office when you are out of the office on holiday, or off sick.

Send an email around before you go on leave that outlines the dates you will be off from and until inclusive, and also who someone can contact in your absence if the need urgent information etc.

Venus - that's the thing - there was an email I sent round, everything....

so it was just ignored.

I don't have a work phone! They just text me on the private one that I have.

I may suggest a work PAYG one though and say please use that for texting me and delete my other number....

Definitely find a new job. This is not good for you to feel like this and its not petty. It is wrong to text you when on holiday. I had a boss like that and it used to really upset me when he would text me in the evening to ask me to do something for him. Good luck with finding one.

Yes, Doitforme - I know he probably has and did forget before now when I was on holiday.

But I know that he should remember. It just reinforces he doesn't really listen re my holiday.

also when he texted me in the past and rang me (when I was off sick) I then got into the habit of switching my phone off. He'd then say "oh I shouldn't ring you when you're on holiday/sick" - well don't bloody well do it then!
