Anyone got their CIPD through Experience Assessment?

Thought I'd post in Employment as it's where HR bods tend to hang out!

I'm currently doing Chartered CIPD through experience assessment and it would be nice to buddy up with someone who is doing or has done this?

Lurking unashamedly as I'm thinking of doing this. Masses of experience but nothing to prove it. Am I correct in thinking that this is equivalent to a Masters? How are you finding it?

DietstartsMonday Great name. I'm part qualified too. My employers have agreed to pay thank goodness. Anyone else been quoted 4 months and £2k to complete?

I'm chartered Cipd but didn't do it via experienced assessment was a grad for 8yrs before finally going for it before I had DS in 2011 as figured would never get round to it otherwise. Friend of mine did it by experience this year said it was tough but really worth it.

I'm glad I've got it but annoys me how when looking for jobs how Short sighted HR professionals are about the need for CIPD ..it doesn't define how good or otherwise u r at your job. There really is an over reliance on it as an indicator of capability and experience

Wow - I really thought my post would tumbleweed!

I've got quite a lot of experience, & not finding it too bad so far - one criteria has got me a bit flummoxed, but I think it's just because of the way my role is which doesn't fit exactly with the format if the questions. That, and the fact that you have to provide evidence over the last 3 years, and I spent 15 months of those three years on mat leave Confused but am desperate to get the qualification as I have all this experience, and nothing to show for it.

Also Figgygal I think you're right about over reliance by HR on CIPD. I know a couple in my organisation who have Fellowship, and I'm rather Hmm given I know what their responsibilities actually are.

Have you got CIPD membership as the forums on the website are quite useful and there are some discussions about the experience assessment.

I've got graduate membership but as I've had a year plus off on mat leave I'm in the position where my current manager doesn't feel in a position to support my upgrade application as they'd be commenting on my work 18 months ago :-(. If they hadn't made the process so difficult when the changed the management standards a couple of years ago I'd of upgraded for my mat leave.

I have started my assessment this week and would be keen
to share any ideas or advise you may have. There is a lot of work to do - I am a little nervous about what case study I will be given!

Hello - just thought I'd update!

I finished the course & submitted my reports on Christmas Eve. Had my professional discussion at beginning of January. It was gruelling, but not as bad as it could have been.

Anyway I got my letter today which confirmed they've awarded my Chartered Status Smile I'm so pleased as I had self doubts throughout!

Ami -as for advice, I'd say make sure you plan your time well, the 8 weeks go really fast, I spent some time most weekends working on it. Also when you get the case study make sure you have the time to do it, I booked 2 weeks annual leave for it, and I really needed that time (although I was slightly disadvantaged not having done a case study before).

Also, really use the CIPD resources on their website, they are really helpful. Good luck Smile

I am just about to start the experience assessment route. Can you provide an insight into the discussion, what is involved, what type of things you were asked, how in depth it is what evidence they look for.

I am about to do my cv and book the telephone call to start the process but I'm a bit concerned about the discussion.

I have 14 years experience in legal HR matters but as I work more as a consultant that for one organisation I fear it may not be good enough!

Any help appreciated.

Interesting read in the posts above. I am due for the telephone assessment for upgrade to the MCIPD level on 12th March and been poring over the HR profession map and the bands behaviours and competencies within that. I have also been thinking about the areas of my work (for the last 3 years) which I could offer as examples. However my question really for those who have been through this process previously is exactly what is the nature of the questions asked at this telephone assessment OR how are these questions worded? A few examples would be fantastic as I am not very clear about how to use this information from the HR profession map to scope out my answers.

I did contact the CIPD helpline twice and each time their answers couldn't be more vague....as if they would let the cat out of the bag!!

I am thinking about take the professional assessment route and would really appreciate some help. As one of the previous messages indicates, CIPD helpline is very light on the type of information you can get from them.
If anybody has been through the route of professional assessment, would you mind sharing the information. I want to know what the "reports" to provide are like, the type of case study is used and what the panel interview is like?
Maybe you know where we could get additional information.

Hi - I'm currently in the midst of my CIPD Experience Assessment case study and wondered, for those that have been through this how much (if any) research based information you put in your case study. Did you cite lots of research or did you just discuss a few models. I don't particularly like citing lots of research because it doesn't really allow you to demonstrate your own views or thinking but if I have to I will!

hello i am thinking to take experience assesment.i already have masters in human resources managment and around 18 months experience in hr. is this much experience with my educational background enough for charted membership?

How long does it take to obtain the Chartered Membership? It says in the website 8 weeks of work. Then in pdf booklet it says 12-18 months. Can anybody clarify please?

I have undergone a pre-assesment discussion based on which it was suggested I could look at associate level experience based assesment. I am yet to enroll for the same. @flashnazia - could you perhaps share the details of how the assesment is? I have 5yrs experience as a HR business partner in India & have been told the assessment is mostly to confirm your understanding and know how of HR & it wouldn't test knowledge of UK employment law. Wanted to confirm this with someone who has already undergone assesment or is in the process of doing so.
