Woolly Hugs. Remembering baby Ruby, we are making a blanket for AliceRR, can you help?

We have heard the desperately sad news that AliceRR’s precious baby daughter Ruby was stillborn at full term, there are no words to say how sorry we are to hear such desperate and devastating news. We send Alice all our love, thoughts very much with her and the family. Beautiful Ruby Star Always loved, never forgotten. AliceRR’s thread is here if you’d like to add your condolences.

Thank you to the folk who came asking for Alice, we offered to make a blanket and she is very touched by everyone's kindness, and would love to receive one.

Ideas for squares
Lovely Alice has given us her ideas, and together we can make something very beautiful to honour their precious daughter. If you can help with any themes that would be fantastic. Have C&P from her message…

her name - Ruby (as you know)

her initials - RR (as are mine)

we called her Ruby Roo (we named her months before she was born so she has been “Ruby” or “Ruby Roo” for a while)

a bunny - we have pet rabbits and thought they’d become Ruby’s pets

elephant - we bought a toy for Ruby to bury with her and we chose an elephant and both had the same thought that “an elephant never forgets”

a Ruby stone

a love heart hearts

an angel - she is obviously our angel

her birthday (she was stillborn) was 13 February 2019 so maybe the date or just the number 13.

Lots of beautiful ideas for squares, but please don’t feel daunted, simple squares are needed too.

Thinking about colours
Alice loves the rich palette of blues, purples, plums, mid greens and we would love to add in pinks, not too pale please, red and ruby/claret red as embellishment/accents colours.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts. Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off very securely when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you!

When ready for posting, it will be the Teddington address, if you would like to include a card for AliceRR , please do, we will pass it on.

JW cobalt. Drops merino North Sea
Drops purple. Paton’s merino extrafine dk violet

Just dashing in before I go to bed to say a HUGE thank you to the very generous and kind donor who sent a parcel to me from Wool Warehouse, the colours are absolutely beautiful!

jetSTAR - I'd go with any of those except maybe the cobalt? Although it would be fine in accents

Wool has arrived literally five minutes ago, I knew what it was as soon as I saw the pink postbag. Thank you to whoever donated, I will get cracking on squares later today xx

I would love to donate as my heart is breaking for Alice after reading this, but I can’t knit or crochet. Apologies for what must be the millionth request, but how do I donate - can I buy yarn and post or order it online or something? Thank you.

I’ve got three squares ready to post - ruby red with a purple flower, pink with a ruby flower, and purple with a pink flower - I hope at least one of them will be OK.
