Anyone travelling fromthe Southampton direction needs to be aware of the M27 road closure planned for the weekend. www.portsmouth.co.uk/our-region/portsmouth/m27-closure-here-s-the-full-60-mile-diversion-route-drivers-will-face-this-weekend-1-8645636

Meet. Thank you SO much, I think this is going to affect a lot of us.

I’ve just been looking into it and I think the diversion routes may possibly be a nightmare with the volume of traffic on the detours through small villages.

Many of my rail options have replacement busses.

I’d love to know what others think...

Spindelina · 25/09/2018 19:31

Bother. Hadn’t checked for rail replacement buses recently. Getting home’s going to be “fun”!

we are setting off from Aylesbury ( our half way stop) so may have to re-jig the route by looks - maybe swing around via the A3 ?

I don’t mind the detour/re route, but the M27 takes a LOT of traffic, that’s going to be a LOT of cars taking the diversion. Some people are saying to expect very, very, long delays.

I’m going to try to head down mid morning. on Friday (I was going to leave it until the evening). It’s more heading home on Sunday that I’m concerned about. I could stay Sunday night, but I’d have to rearrange other plans (it does mean more Gin consumption though 🤔🤣)

Well done Meet0nTheIedge for alerting folks to this. I had no clue about it. It may be the one and only occasion that I have the advantage, where travel is concerned, heading north to the big island.

Thanks for the heads up on traffic - it looks like Portsmouth-bound traffic is being redirected round a "local" route rather than the full 60-mile version, which may help some folks although I'd still expect delays

book I used to live in Aylesbury and was at Uni in Bournemouth, I have spent more time than I care to recall on the A34/M27! Could you stick to that route but come off at Winchester and pick up the M27 again at J7? You might even be able to get through looking at the map above, it doesn't mention approaching from the north!

There was a report on South Today tonight about it, saying basically expect gridlock all round Southampton this weekend. Luckily both Portsmouth and Southampon FC have away games this weekend, but I imagine the A3 will get very busy too.

Oh bollocks. Gutted, I have only just seen this. I would love to come to next meet up/hugathon/event/excuse for cake/booze up etc..... Will keep my eyes open.

Have a lovely woolly time.

We’ve decided to get the train out of Portsmouth in the wrong direction and loop round, rather than risk DD being sick on the rail replacement bus stuck in the traffic.

elephantoverthehill · 25/09/2018 22:45

hazeyjane I just scooted in on this, seat of my pants as it were. There may be some other tickets going begging. Contact K&P directly?

KnottyAndPistey · 25/09/2018 22:48

Evening - there is one ticket free, someone had bought two and their friend can no longer come Hazey it can be yours?

Report
ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 25/09/2018 23:11

meet yes, it’s the gridlock that’s worrying me. I’d happily do a long detour if it was moving and you could be fairly confident how long it would take, but the thought if sitting in gridlock for hours...no thanks. I’m not sure if I’m being overly cautious considering postponing my plans for Sunday night & staying another night.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 25/09/2018 23:14

k&p. Have you any idea how many of the tickets have gone to MNers? I can only count about 11 (12 if Hazey comes) on this thread (that’s not including you two), but I assume others haven’t seen the thread/posted on it...

I’m staying near Osbourne Road (Southsea) on Saturday night, so thought I’d go to one of the nearby restaurants (walking distance) on Saturday night if anyone fancies meeting up?! Somewhere casual where jeans & flats are just fine 😊

The place I booked in said they have one room left and would do the same (decent) rate if you said I sent you, so PM me if you’re still looking for accommodation.

Thankyou, lovelies, but dh is working this weekend so I wouldn't be able to do it even with the extra ticket. Next time, I will carve the date in granite in plenty of time!

That’s a shame Hazey, but I have a screen shot of your post, no excuses next time!

Hello Huggers Grin

Would say over half are Mumsnetters, some possibly a bit lapsed like Zing! Ninja and HoggyTruffle are coming - Edgar is too (we made her a WH in 2011) quite a lot from WH blanket making threads, who tend to only post on those.

KnottyAndPistey · 27/09/2018 10:27

Going to bring Niffler's Woolly Hug as I'm thinking lots of MN folk might like to see one finished and it really doesn't normally happen, unless you are round when one is under construction. On the edging stage, so it maybe finished. Be nice to take the photos if poss, it is an absolute beauty, as they always are. Thanks

Hi bookbook I thought you would probably be romancing DH 😊. Well done for not needing to sit on your case 😊

🤣😂

Have a lovely road trip down.

K&P

Zing IS coming?! Excellent! I was going to PM her to check, but hadn’t yet. Edgar, Ninja & HT too... fab!

It’s great there are lots of other MNers coming, hopefully they’ll choose to have their MN names on their badges.

It will be lovely to see Nifflers WH.

Oh gosh, just seen the traffic news. Is there something up with the trains as well ? Normally Portsmouth would only take me just over an hour to drive to ( coming from Newbury/ Swindon direction) . So I thought about getting a train from Winchester but the journey there seems to be an hour and 20 mins instead of the usual 40 mins or so. It’s there replacement buses?
