Desperately sad and news we’re afraid. In September, lovely slinky’s DH died very suddenly, they had been together 26 years. He was only 51. Such a terrible shock. So devastating for her, their teen boys, families and friends, so hard to make any sense, we can only begin to imagine how helpless and sad they feel, life is so cruel. We are so very sorry and send so much love to them all. Slinky’s thread tis here if you would like to post a message.

We have offered to make slinkysaluki a blanket to show our love and support and to offer what comfort we can, and we are delighted to say she has accepted. Will you help us make this for her and their boys?

We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) Sincere thanks. Thanks

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Our Yarns

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
 Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger, Laughing Hens

Some ideas from slinky...
He loved David Bowie and music, mainly heavy rock like ACDC.
He liked the gym specifically weights.
Roller hockey was a big part of his life as our son H played nationally and accompanied him all over the country and abroad.
Our other son M is a gifted rhythm guitar player.
Also we foster dogs, maintenance greyhound and lurchers types.

Lovely slinky has suggested a colour theme..
Navy blue (anything from denim to navy is perfect)
Teal, but please avoid those vibrant teals
Silvery greys
Mustard - but just this one please Drops Merino Extra Fine - Mustard (30)
For embellishments/accents purples, green, creams, orange and red.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support,

Lovely Slinky we are thinking of you all, sending love and strength. xxxxx

More beautiful squares Madison
I haven't started on these yet - I need more hours in the day ...

MadisonAvenue · 11/12/2017 22:07

Thanks book I've needed to crack on as our youngest goes into hospital for his operation tomorrow (fingers crossed and touch wood) and then before I know it I'll be all caught up in Christmas and then I'll start running out of time.

The weather has definitely been on my side and allowed me to stay in and crochet this weekend though.

bookbook · 11/12/2017 22:15

oh, I hope it goes well Madison - I was thinking that it isn't too long to your holiday? and wondered if that was the cause of the fast fingers .
I have to knit one more wrist warmer, and then I can get back to these :)

MadisonAvenue · 12/12/2017 12:25

Thanks book I'm still home waiting for a call to say he's gone into theatre. My husband's gone with him, we had to get permission for him to have someone with him as he's in an adult area but is still a child and it's single sex so it had to be Dad. He was due to go to theatre at 11ish but fainted when a nurse started to insert a cannula and they've decided he needs a bit of hydration so is on a drip which has knocked him down the theatre list. As soon as I get the call I'll slip and slide my way to the bus stop and go over.

Bang on 100 days today until we go not that there's a countdown running on my phone or anything daft like that

bookbook · 12/12/2017 21:52

Hope all went well Madison
oooh 100 days, thats not long ! (We go away on the 21st Jan for 3 weeks. I am trying to decide how much yarn I can squeeze in the bags :))

MadisonAvenue · 13/12/2017 10:40

Oooh you lucky thing, it's lovely to have something to look forward to after Christmas isn't it. You'll need a lot of yarn for three weeks! Grin

Thanks, it all went well. He's waiting to see if he can come home today. I'm marveling at the advances made in the last 15 years since I had the same surgery. I was in hospital for a week afterwards and was only allowed ice chips for five days afterwards. He had a cup of tea in his hand half an hour after returning to the ward from theatre last night! It's done by keyhole now though.

Okkitokkiunga · 13/12/2017 11:12

Hope your DS is home today and up to mischief Madison. ** Nice squares.

Donor wool hasn't arrived 🙁. Wondering about putting some on my Christmas list. Hmmmm.

Is that going to be a sunny holiday book? Sounds glorious either way.

Okkitokkiunga · 13/12/2017 11:12

Major bold fail there. Grin

bookbook · 13/12/2017 21:04

I am really lucky Okki - off to Tenerife -so lovely and warm at the coldest time of year at home :)

MadisonAvenue · 14/12/2017 16:06

Oh lovely book we often used to have Winter holidays in Tenerife before we had the boys, it was lovely to get a couple of weeks of warmth!

No mischief yet unfortunately Okki. He was due to be discharged yesterday but then he was sick so they decided to keep him in one more night, then he's been sick twice today so he's now being transferred to the main hospital in the trust as the ward he's on closes tomorrow for the weekend and they can't guarantee he'll be discharged even tomorrow so they're transferring him now. Problem is, this other hospital is an hour away from us and that's not accounting for rush hour traffic. Poor thing is 17 and totally fed up, the visiting hours on the ward he's been on up until now are awful - 6.30pm until 8pm - so we've not even been able to go over and keep him company during the day. It's an adult ward too and the other patients all seem to be in their 70s and 80s.
The daft thing is that he says he feels much better today than he did yesterday.

Some wool has arrived today - silvery grey and maroony purple - so I'm guessing it's grey for Slinky and purple for Watcher.

Thank you! Will get cracking now. :)

hi Stitchit - it gets addictive doesn't it ? :)
I am not sure in truth about yarn. I mostly buy my own and just ask for a bit for detailing . Mmmm - can you bear to sit on it until after Christmas ? That way, you could ask if they want more squares making and use it up then . Not very helpful, sorry!

I have done 2 squares and a couple of embellishments as there wasn't enough wool to turn the picot rose I started into a square and I didn't have the heart to undo it all. I hope they can be added to some plain squares. Will post after Christmas with a bag full of refugee squares etc.

KnottyAndPistey · 21/12/2017 15:57

Such beautiful squares, how utterly wonderful, thank you xxx

We have donors to thank. Thanks

Honestly donations mean so much, we always want to be inclusive, for everyone to join in if they would like to, and some folk just wouldn't be able to afford to. Your kind donations make it possible, we really are so grateful. Thanks
