Surely the best corner of the Mumsnet, all are welcome here and if seen this for the first time, join us, you'll be glad you did. This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

A bit of background
We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly, we hold our happy memories of her very dear. Bless her.

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. X

Raising a glass or two to the fabulous Zombie, we go on together Gin

We have several previous threads now, have a look at the Woolly Hugs topic.

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection dates are October 28th and then January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. All welcome over there.

We start this new thread having sent out 46 Candy's Hugs to wonderful women, extraordinary, thank you.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Madison How far away are they and what would their other options be?

steppemum · 01/12/2017 09:51

morning all, I have finally bagged up the squares I knitted last winter for, and I'm off to the post office this morning.

about 7 zombie squares and 15 for chernobyl
and one I have just done for CatTheif Keith.

Feeling very pleased with myself, but juts realised that I still have quite a lot of Zombie yarn left, so will start knitting again.

Morning all
still snow and ice here, but it is just starting to melt thank goodness.
Madison - its awful, - feeling guilty but really not wanting to have to host. Do you have siblings at all where they can go? It is a hard conversation to have - and depends a lot on how understanding they might be. We have changed our Christmas plans as the DD's have grown - both sets of grandparents are sadly gone now. But we do Christmas Day/Boxing Day on a year on/year off rota with the IL's of DD's IYSWIM .But it is only fair -so this year we have everyone Boxing Day, and make it special in a slightly different way , hopefully .
Right , off to put on thinking cap for the new MN blankets ....

Possible sighting of Mooface today but if so it's not good news at all. Any good wishes very welcome (don't need to post them - just think them).

As I just posted on the litter tray, I'm here with him, 99% sure it's him. A very peaceful spot in contrast to his apparently violent end. I won't give details but it appears it was human and deliberate.

Thank you all for your kindness and good wishes.

MadisonAvenue · 01/12/2017 15:26

Oh no Mrs H, I'm so so sorry Flowers
That sounds very worrying from what you say. A friend of mine lives somewhere very remote, I won't say where but it's very very very up north, and she lost two cats earlier in the year to antifreeze poisoning and, due to what was found, it was believed to have been deliberate. You honestly cannot imagine what goes through the minds of people who willingly do things like that to animals.

SpiralArchitect · 01/12/2017 15:27

Oh, MrsH Sad Angry

Big hugs Flowers

HepKestrel · 01/12/2017 15:46

so sorry Flowers

MrsHathaway · 01/12/2017 16:09

Thank you. DH came and removed the 1% of doubt I was clinging to.

People can be awful, yes, but we know that people can be kind, and helpful, and compassionate, and fiercely loving. Nowhere is that more obvious than Woolly Hugs and Candy's.

bookbook · 01/12/2017 16:24

oh MrsH - :( you must all be heartbroken. I am so sorry Flowers. I was hoping against hope ...

Oh, MrsH, I'm so sorry. We lost one cat a year ago and the other earlier this year. It's the only time I've seen DH cry - they were so much part of our family and even though we've replaced them with kittens it's not the same - I keep calling them by the previous cats' names.

Thinking of you - I know how hard it is.

Jux · 01/12/2017 23:41

Flowers for you MrsH, I’m so sorry.

Also for you, diamantegirl.

You never forget them.

Can someone please point me in the right direction of the info for Chernobyl 2018. Did I dream it or were colour palettes etc posted? Muchas gracias.

bookbook · 02/12/2017 16:52

Hi Okki
here is the post on the website - there are more colours this year HERE

Okkitokkiunga · 02/12/2017 16:56

Thanks book. I've spent ages looking for it. Blush

bookbook · 02/12/2017 16:59

It was originally on fb , aaaages ago, but when I went to look for it I couldn't find it either - then realised it was on their website -

Spindelina · 02/12/2017 18:39

So sorry, MrsH Flowers

I sent my parcel today - two little hugs, some Candy’s squares and the angel hug which has been my nemesis (I’ve got a PhD in statistics, but counting is hard!).

And then a perfectly timed Deramores parcel arrived this afternoon Smile

Stitchit - K&P always say better just under the 6" than over. Easier for the magic constructors to do their thing. So leave it! (And post a pretty picture, obviously Grin )
