Surely the best corner of the Mumsnet, all are welcome here and if seen this for the first time, join us, you'll be glad you did. This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

A bit of background
We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly, we hold our happy memories of her very dear. Bless her.

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. X

Raising a glass or two to the fabulous Zombie, we go on together Gin

We have several previous threads now, have a look at the Woolly Hugs topic.

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection dates are October 28th and then January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. All welcome over there.

We start this new thread having sent out 46 Candy's Hugs to wonderful women, extraordinary, thank you.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Happy birthday dear Zombie GinCake

Can I have posting details please? It's take me forever but I've finally finished some granny squares for Candys hugs.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 22/04/2018 19:21

🍾🥂. Not quite Candy’s tipple, but it’s what I’m toasting her with tonight. I have a candle ready for later and I’m crocheting a Zombie Square, which can be donated to C2018 if we are short - I know she would approve. I miss her loads xx

MadisonAvenue · 23/04/2018 14:28

Chipping she's here three or four times a year. It's used to be just for an overnight stay as she drove to family further on and another overnight as she drove back but now her stays are getting longer. If she was an easy house guest it wouldn't be bad but she's not. Words that her own son, my lovely husband who usually gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, has used to describe her this last week have been, amongst others, 'manipulative', selfish' and 'venomous' - so you can get an idea of what she's like.

The youngest is doing well, thanks. All recovered now! He's got himself a part time job too since his surgery and has just got a lovely girlfriend so things are on the up! Only thing that's upset the apple cart is that he failed his driving test last month. He was told at the start of December that he was ready for it and the first available date was the end of March. After failing he came straight back home and we got online to book another one and the earliest date that we could get was the end of June! To put into context how many lessons he's had (so far), he had his first one on his 17th Birthday and he'll be 18 in two weeks time, and he's had one every week apart from the two weeks following his surgery.

Witch we used to help out with Scouts when our boys were involved, although we were more in an admin capacity rather than leading, and people don't realise just how much work the volunteers put in. It's not just that one or two nights a week for meetings is it.

WitchDancer · 23/04/2018 16:10

Madison, of course it's only an hour a week! 😂 See - I can say that with a straight face. It's only as bad because I'm desperately trying to get my training done. Even more training on the cards as they've asked me to be AGSL 😁

I'm still doing plain granny squares with whatever Candy colours I can find. I'm going to have to take a couple of days off so I can rest and crotchet.

I've not been here for a while and looking at the date stamps I have a feeling I'm missing a new thread Confused. If that's the case could someone point me in the right direction please? I'd love to be involved in the talk again x

MadisonAvenue · 09/09/2018 10:12

Craftygirl We're still using this thread. How are you doing?

I've got a parcel of squares for Candy, for the Summer of Woolly Love project. I'll get those sent out at the weekend.

bookbook · 09/09/2018 19:41

I will be coming back here shortly . I think the summer break has caused the lack of posts- I have had my head down doing a couple of blanket constructions and some crafty stuff for the Christmas sale :)
Hello Madison - good to see you ! I'm just starting to look at some new patterns for squares , will be good to stretch my brain a bit!

CraftyGirly90 · 12/09/2018 11:06

Hi Madison I'm doing ok, I'm actually planning a wedding so my brain keeps getting frazzled. How are you?

WitchDancer · 15/09/2018 10:14

Morning all! If anyone finds a crojo anywhere it's mine!

MadisonAvenue · 16/09/2018 09:55

How exciting CraftyGirly, is the wedding soon?
All's good here thanks, oldest son is now back living at home after finishing university (we have his graduation ceremony this week!) so there's a bit of adjustment on going on both sides really and the youngest passed his driving test last week which brings a whole new set of worries!

book I've been working on some new patterns too. I've discovered the basketweave stitch which I love. Great to see you!

MadisonAvenue · 16/09/2018 09:55

Oh no Witch Sad
Hope you're okay otherwise!

CraftyGirly90 · 16/09/2018 11:54

Hi Madison, no its not until 2020 but there is so much to think about and plan/budget for. My head keeps spinning x

WitchDancer · 16/09/2018 13:48

MadisonAvenue · 19/11/2018 12:05

That's really lovely TQ! The colours work so well together.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/11/2018 18:14

Thank you Madison. Smile
This one is Tropical Flower. Again, it's darker in the photo (blame my DD) than IRL. The surround is petrol... or is it teal... can't remember.

MadisonAvenue · 23/11/2018 10:50

That's another beautiful square there TQ! Smile
Are you working on a whole blanket?

TwitterQueen1 · 23/11/2018 10:55

Yes I am! After the hugathon I realised that crocheting them all together is actually very easy and extremely satisfying so I'm doing whole blankets now. I've got a Chernobs hidden in the airing cupboard ready to post in Jan and thought I do a Candy's Hug since I am the proud recipient of one. I'm doing mostly 6" ones but with a few - probably 4 or 5 'showpiece' 12" ones thrown in too.

MadisonAvenue · 23/11/2018 20:38

I can't wait to see it when you've finished!
I hope your hug has helped you Flowers

bookbook · 28/11/2018 20:10

evening !
TQ - gorgeous squares .
I am miles behind , but have finished all the crafting for the Xmas sale, along with a few Snug constructions.
I am now ready to roll my sleeves up and get going with these - they have asked for some, as they are getting a bit low. So am going to do these first, before moving onto Chernobyls over Christmas.
How is everyone?

TwitterQueen1 · 29/11/2018 09:34

Madison my hug helps me on a daily basis Smile. I'll be back on the chemo again very soon so it'll get lots more use.

Tx book I'm making progress!

MadisonAvenue · 05/12/2018 11:50

I hope all goes well for you TQ Flowers
